I guess we can say that Oscar Dela Hoya did really pitted the young Canelo who was still 23 years old at that time against the prime Floyd Mayweather Jr. just because Oscar believed that his cashcow will be the one who will stain Floyd's record. But that certain defeat indeed molded Canelo to be much a clever boxer inside the ring and did took the Philly Shell personally as he invented an intelligent way how to counter it afterwards because that was the reason why he lost most of the rounds.

I also believe that it was the only time that Canelo had his chance to fight Mayweather because if Canelo was already a heavy name at that time, the latter might've ducked him and we cannot witness that certain fight.

Floyd was one of the best I've ever seen but he ducked a lot of fighters. I remember he ducked Margarito like the plague and admitted it.

Well. that is the strategy to preserve his career and make his worth in boxing industry higher than lots of legendary fighters out there.  I think Mayweather had foreseen that having unblemished records will rake him lots of money in the future.  Sadly when he fought Canelo, Canelo isn't ready to take him.  I also agree that if ever Canelo didn't take the fight and wait for 5 years to be on his prime, Mayweather would have done everything he can to duck the fight.

Yeah, I will agree with your observation, it's now that this boxing promotion is under the promotions and network affiliations. Initially you will think that they have the control, mandating all this fight and what not. But if you look at it, like in this case, Ryder was hand pick because it's going to be an easy fight for Canelo. Matchroom and Hearn are looking for a boxer that will not be a threat to Canelo as he is coming back from his injuries and Ryder is a perfect fit for that. And the organization can justify that he is their number 1 seeding or whatever, or he is on a 4 fight winning streak. But we all know that Canelo can choice any fighter that he wants. And again, to put some reasons behind, Canelo said that he is not after the money, but wanted to fight in his native country, Mexico. So in any case, all in house money for Eddie Hearn and Canelo proving himself as cash cow if he can sell out one of the biggest venue in Mexico. You can't ask for a better set up that than.

Not that surprising because we have already heard this man's name even before Canelo Alvarez underwent to a much needed surgery because his wrist has been in pain since the Canelo-GGG III fight. I'm just glad that this fight is now a done deal because people are waiting for Canelo's return as he have a lot of boxer now queued to fight him afterwards, Canelo may put his belt on the line on this one but let's not forget that this is just a tune-up fight.

Yes, just a tune-up fight but I am still expecting to see a good fight here and would not be surprise if Canelo will definite give his opponent another crucial fight as seen with his devastating body punching. In the long run, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is indeed right in his vision because up until now even if he's already retired in pro-scene, he's still making and racking a huge amount of money with a guaranteed 7 to 8 figures per fight because he's still hot in the exhibition scene right now. It may not attract a lot of audience it terms of worldwide market but the fact is still the same, he's been always the Money Mayweather.

Anyway, back to the fight, is the odds available already? I'm thinking that this John Ryder will be 5:1 heavy underdog.

And with that, no value in betting for ML here on Canelo, but if you love the underdog Ryder, then it's already a very mouth watering odds, hehehe, but the risk is very high. This is Canelo's best weight, and will be fighting in what could be the biggest live audience in the last 5-10 years because it's going to be held in Mexico. So just imagine the magnitude if he is going to lose this fight. So he will do his best to maybe end this fight quickly. I just understand why people would watch it, buy tickets or PPV, when it is clear that 99.99% Canelo would win that fight. Neither it is possible to earn here for gamblers. 1.06-1.10 odds is like nothing. I mean you bet 100 bucks and win a beer... Who would sigh for that

As to Bivol, I cant say that Canelo is afraid. I would say that both Bivol and Canelo are not interested in that fight. Canelo has tested himself in lightheavyweight. Bivol earned money. Everyone got what they wanted. Also, I doubt that Bivol would accept that fight. I think he is about to meet Beterbiev, and Canelo has nothing new to show as a lightheavyweight.

This is just a tune up fight for Canelo, so they have to get someone who at least good in paper like Ryder. Canelo is so good in this division that he is the king of MW for many years now, and Ryder might be another British boxer that he is going to defeat.

He did aim though to move to other divisions right? During the WBC convention like a couple of years ago, he said that he will be fighting the champion in CW in Makabu and the WBC approved it. But that fight didn't push through and instead target the light heavyweight, Bivol. Surprisingly, it was a upset win by Bivol as Canelo might have bite off more than he can chew. Now he goes back to his comfort zone in Middleweight and fight Ryder in his own backyard.

I'm both a Canerlo and a boxing fan I want to see good boxing, remember the Ruiz - Joshua fight, it looks like a cherry-picked fight but it turn out not to be and turn out to be a great boxing match if boxing fans just shrug off this fight and call it another guaranteed win for Joshua then they've just missed a very good fight, how about the Tyson - Douglas fight it looks like a walk in a park but boxing fans still watch it so they are treated for the biggest upset, we boxing fans loves good boxing so boxing fans will watch it because they love good and high-level
