You expressed your doubts a little confused, but we will try to understand what you want to ask.
No, it is not allowed to buy/sell merit, although there are no significant sanctions for that except a negative tag account. This is about certain rewards for contributing to this forum, not for making money or showing that you have money to pay for merit.
The purpose of the metric is to highlight useful members from those who are only here to make money.

The current status quo seems OK. If you have to pay $20 per merit plus a risk of getting red trust, then that's a situation that doesn't concern me at all. I'm not going to lose sleep over people going to ridiculous lengths to buy merit, since only a small number of people will be willing and able to do that.

As long as merit sales are a black market, I'm happy, since that makes it far more difficult and expensive to buy merit. If that's the case, then the small volume of black-market merit trades don't themselves bother me much, and I think that it does more harm than good to get too witch-hunty about it.

Let's say you buy merits, you need a lot of it to rank-up, signature campaigns are looking for a minimum effort in the quality of posts to get paid, if you don't make that effort, buying merit points won't change anything.

It is a scam because other users get tired of creating high-quality posts while you get for merits for free are therefore merit is not a commodity to be bought or sold.

You will not be banned for buying/selling merits but may get negative trust and many will ignore your posts.

Buying merit is strongly discouraged by forum members, and if you are caught doing so, your account will be negatively tagged.

I'm not sure why you'd want to risk wasting your money by purchasing merits; the merit system was implemented to prevent spam and allow only those who make constructive posts and contributions to grow in the forum. All you need to do at this point is devote some of your time to learning; simply look for good material about Bitcoin and crypto in general and read it before you know you'll be making constructive posts.

If you want to rank simply because of the limitations of a newbie account, you should consider purchasing a Copper membership; otherwise, try to develop yourself instead of looking for shortcuts.

Not good to buy merit because if you receive merit from users with a bad reputation you might also get red-tagged by DTs so it would be better to earn them organically.
It's not hard to earn them just contribute to the forum and make sure you are helping and soon some of your posts will be merited if they found your post useful and helpful.

This is unethical and should be discouraged merit was not created to monetize and make a profit it is given to users who has good contribution it is a way of appreciating a user, even begging or asking for merit is not allowed merit flow should be natural, you can only move up or level up your rank based on merits you've accumulated, if you buy merits to rank up you don't deserve your rank and you only buy your way up, its disgracing.

To be honest, as other members have stated, it is strongly discouraged because if you buy merits, your quality of posting will show because other forum members will discover that your account did not deserve the number of merits it has received.

You can't say you saw that happening when there's no proof and don't go and implicate innocent users just to proof your point. If you see people meriting each other, first observe if the posts they are meriting are quality posts, if they're then there's nothing we can do about it. Meriting low quality posts is when we can build a case against the users. One or two members merit records might be looking like they're meriting themselves but there's nothing they can do since they both encounter each other and find their posts worth highlighting.

Technically forum members can do to their spendable merits what they want since we can't tell anybody what to do with their merits or who to merits but can only encourage them to use it to highlight quality posts and when they do otherwise, if they're caught, they're to be blamed since the community is against doing such. Theymos only mandated the Merit source not to sell their merits and try to distribute all before the month ends therefore they're the only members who are to be held accountable for how they send their merits.

Merits are earned and not for sale. Maybe you are uncomfortable that you have written 26 posts and got no merit. This might be the motivation for this post. The truth is it takes commitment and hard work to create quality posts that will attract merit. You need to learn more about Bitcoin and the forum to help you improve your post and earn merit. A close look at your post history shows that politics and society, beginners and help, and gambling are the main sections you post. You have to be dedicated and learn about the forum and its features including the different boards. I think Solosanz's jocular tone is clear, and that there has been a misunderstanding on Issa56's part. In other words, I think it's better not to get bogged down in an argument over something that starts with a joke, let alone tag someone and end up in drama. Although in this case, the tag would have little to go on, and little justification.

Regarding the OP, I think it has been made clear to him. Just follow the rules and don't cheat, as many people regret it when they get caught because they had bought the account, or merit, and find themselves with an unusable account after being tagged.

What's the fun for it? You can buy degree also but can you buy the skills and knowledge also required for the designated job? The thing is why people want to buy merits? Yeah thats correct mate, buying of merit is very wrong and trading it also, this merit system was put in place by theymos to actually make members earn it through good posting and so many newbie have found it difficult in achieving one or two maybe because you are shit poster or you dont read at all. Although am not perfect but I can use myself as an example, first time I got here I actually did a lot of offline reading which help me a lot before ever I started making little contribution with all the knowledge I have gathered from reading posts from seniors and researches that I have made myself and today I can gladly say earning of merits isn't a problem for me anymore as I know if I write a good post I will definitely get one or two from members of the forum and I can also return the favour if I come across a good post that's worth meriting.

There is nothing wrong in being merits hunger and merit conscious. It will only be bad if you do not accompany your merit quest with quality post. A good poster is worthy of merits, so anyone who makes quality posts should be expectant of merits and if the merit is not forthcoming, you can share your posts to merit threads where merit sources issue merits.

rules are made to maintain order and peace in a community, maybe in your country marijuana is prohibited but not all countries legalize it too, some countries stipulate that marijuana is only legal in a few districts.  in this forum we set merit and accounts are things that are forbidden to be sold or bought, if a member violates that then he will definitely be removed from the community.

Buying or selling of merit hasn't  really been put out there on whether it's allowed or not ,but by forum etiquette it isn't as it may promote account farmers, ban invasions and possibly bring more spam!

Besides merit was introduced to bar spammers from ranking up as spam was mostly generated from signature campaigns and bounty campaigns that paid more based on rank but with its introduction this has gone down.

After reading this thread I am quite amazed because I would have said without any hint of a doubt that merit selling is some kind of merit abuse and, therefore, clear reason to be banned. But, surprise! there is no rule that prohibits it and, applying the analogy, it is legit (but discouraged)

Theymos probably don’t want to become harsh on dealing with merit abuse since it’s easy to spot them using merit graph and he believes that implication of having a red tag is enough to scare those user that will deal with it instead of making additional work for mods to ban all the suspected merit abusers.

Red tag user is almost equal to no value account because they can’t join the campaign which is the main reason why users want to earn merit on quick way to rank up and join campaign.

As I've said before, I'm not really worried about it. Especially at those high prices (plus the risk of being red-tagged), it's enough of a barrier that it should still serve its intended function of creating a significant cost/barrier for garbage-posters.

There's so much merits to be given out on the forum as we have many merits sources but there aren't many merits worthy threads been created as most of them are just repeated discussion. Be unique and work on your craft and you'll be merited, don't engage in selling or buying merits. It mightn't be in the unofficial forum rules and regulations but it's morally wrong and when you get caught you won't be treated with mercy.

You're correct but how do you intend to encourage the newbies if they have done all they could to create a quality post and yet nothing is coming (like the merit)? Since you and I know how difficult it is to get at least one merit for a start, how do you encourage them?

Buying merit is not moderated directly by the forum, but it is not recommended to carry out merit buying and selling activities. If you think logically, why buy merit when you can get merit for free. What if the history of your transactions via PM, Telegram, WhatsApp or other media is screenshotted by the seller and then used as valid proof that you have done something that is not recommended in the forum.

Selling copper membership account is activity recognized by the forum and is not morally wrong. It adds up to the forum revenue generation means. It is between the buyer and the forum itself directly.

The benefit of copper member account is the ability to add images to your post without having merit. The forum does not permit newbies account to post image unless you have at least one merit before you can be able to add image to your post but copper member account are being given this privilege because they pay for it and copper member tag is indicated in such accounts under their forum username. I don't think Forum is selling other rank accounts.

Exactly. Don’t be pressured on getting merits as it will come to you easily when you’ve gained sufficient knowledge and experience on the threads given. What exactly do you need merits for? If you have in mind that after you buy merits from someone whatever the deal is and think you can join campaign later on then it's totally wastage of time because managers will also evaluate your post history which will tell the posts are not worth it so what's the fun behind it? The best way, in my opinion, is to learn and do his own research regarding cryptocurrency and stuff that is related to it because this is what the community is all about. Then he can create first in their local board with some clear explanations and make his fellow countrymen what's really going on recently. Merit is something that when sent from a profile, does not minus 1 merit from that profile. And when a profile gets 2 merits then automatically 1 sendable merit is generated in that profile. and this merit is not allowed to be bought or sold.  DT members may give negative tag if it is found that someone is involved in Merit buying/selling. because the purpose of merit system is to recognize the knowledgeable members in the forum and to protect the value of each rank in the forum. so there is no chance to change the rank of someone's account by merit buy/sell

You can't really say that with enough proof if you really have evidence about that you could post your accusation here in the forum you tag this member since buying merits could destroy and defeat the purpose of the merit system.

It is obviously clear that the forum moderator has forbidden the sale or purchase of merits. You can see that if it is allowed, it will discourage forum members because they can easily gain them and won't be serious about making good contributions. Merits are earned when you generate solid content that is worth it. However, someone who is aware of how the forum's merit system functions will undoubtedly put forth a lot of effort and make valuable contributions so that we can reward them. Just picture a novice purchasing merits. They won't take the time to thoroughly research bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, in my opinion.

However, OP, if buying or sending merits is permitted, you will see many people with a lot of them in the past 120 days. But since it is difficult to earn merits, even if you intend to do so, which is why you thought to ask first, I believe you should ignore this and concentrate on the main reason you came to the forum and learn the necessary skills. It's a frowned at act, merit trading!

There are some users cannot extend their patience to earn this and they want to fasten up the process to rank up because they like to join on signature campaign as fast as they can. They didn't realize the risk to lose some money since as we all know thus is heavily been discourage and not advisable to be done by anyone. New users could just research for helpful topics and contribute it here and with that they can earn merits from other user who think they brought up some good information in this community.

I believe there might be a misunderstanding in your understanding. Permit me explain to  clearly to you I advise you not to exchange money for merit as it goes against the rules of Bitcointalk and can lead to significant difficulties for you. You focus on expanding your knowledge. When you create good contant and share valuable knowledge with other members that they like and find beneficial you will naturally earn merit.

So this rule must be created in order to avoid exchanging of merits.

There have been issues countless times with those involved in all these kind of acts including buying of account, I don't what some people take this forum for, but the best offer that has been a lasting solution was the moderation it has unlike other unregulated social media platforms they can carry out many illicit activities in there, how could a newbie taugh about doing all these if not that he was not given a proper orientation before joining, aside those that have already been used to all manners of scam related experiences right before joining by avoiding the due process for a shortcut means.

Hehe...you haven't made more specificities on that, so how's that supposed to be true? Is it when you realized that it's almost impossible to get 'em coming more easily than what you thought? Cus ever since the last time lovesmay did a kinda philanthropy welcoming with one merit to start with, you haven't had any since then.
I'm not gonna say I haven't been observing some fishy activities in here, but again, that cannot be acted upon without valid proves... Thirdly, anyone could always decide to merit his favourite merit fan too if they've got nicer post - doesn't mean that's some proposed merit trading as you Said..  I've been meriting peeps and most especially, Chymist for every post review in question -does that mean we're trading?

If you have checked the forum rules before now, you will see that trading merits is not advisable here since you can get the merit you are think of trading or buying when you write good posts. The problem is how long would someone have to be buying merits and where do you think you are going to get it even with your money. There are many scammers here that would tell you that they will sell you some merits for you to rank up. These people might just be a mere scammers that are ready to take your money from you. You don't need to yield to that kind of advise even if they come to your DM to lure you. It will be wise for your ti do things in the right way.

The forum has no control on it but as a responsible member, you should know that buying merits are strictly prohibited and should never be encouraged. Simply because that will not be your asset and that will not make you knowledgeable and become significant member in the forum. Merits are only given to those who deserve it, and not to be bought since your worth and quality will never be bought in the first place.

Forum controls it, that's why DT members give a red tag to the member who is buying merits. If forum has no control, forum won't respond anything to the merit sales.

Of course, every member mustn't sell or buy their merits, it is actually not a proper way. It is unfair to get merits without any effort, people get merits because of their contribution and the quality of their posts. It is the only way to get merits, buying merits can be categorized by cheating the merit system.

You are newbie here just exploring different threads is what you should focus on and when you write some quality stuff or even something useful like asking some good doubts also then you will get merits your way which is the best not to follow any such advice of whosoever is convincing you to buy merits.

It seems that newbies these days are very anxious about getting merits that’s why if some will attempt to sell their merits, they will instantly grab for that. That is a clear manifestation that they don’t care about the purpose of the forum but only to satisfy their greed and that is to get rich quickly. I just hope that they will realize that merit is not the only factor to qualify for signature campaign. It’s actually the posting habits and performance of an applicant that will matter the most, and not merely on how many merits you’ve received.

Nope, it's not. Nonetheless, your observation couldn't be wrong. Sometimes you get to find loose and unworthy posts get heavily merited and you ask why, only for you to look closely and see a return to the same user who had merited the other. I think it's called something like "returning favour or scratching my back and I scratch yours" type of thing. I don't think it's an offence if the posts merited are deserving of merits but I find it an issue when outright shitposts are merited.

OP, I can tell you that buying of merit is not a wise thing to do if you are considering doing so. If you are considering buying merit, that means your intentions here are just to rank up and perhaps join a campaign and be like some users that are very professional in shit postin. Well, I think that one reason why the merit system was introduced was to reduce the level of shitposting and encourage users to make more quality posts. So, if you are buying merit or BTT account, you are automatically telling the forum that you are a bad poster that is not sure if you can make any good and healthy contribution to the forum. IMO, having to sell merit in exchange for money is bad, you could get a Neg tag.

Now the question remains is that a good thing? Perhaps the beginners in need of merits should go get a circle… that’s nonsense.

Having either of these in a way undermines the idea behind merit creation as one could easily neglect a merit worthy post for an unworthy one. Although yeah, you count tell what post is unworthy as, it’s not your own Smerit that would be given out and what’s unworthy in your eyes might just be the information that is relevant in another user.

Buying merit is a let down to your brains for something which you can easily earn by using same brains to give solutions to someone's plight to useful and valuable information. The early stage in the forum for everyone is always difficult as a newbie with no knowledge of how the forum operates, where to disseminate or imbibe informations. Still it doesn't warrant the monetization of the merit system.

OP should bother himself more on how useful he could be to the forum cause your stems of growth in the forum depends on how useful, resourceful and informative you are to the needs of users queries about cryptocurrency challenges they encounter, and general knowledge outside crypto altogether. Don't engage in merit buying it's not allowed.

No- I do not think that buying merit is acceptable in this forum. Not only do you cheat the system but you are also engaging into a fraud activity.

Given that merits are discretionary acts, a person may freely merit any post/thread depending on the situation. But if you are planning on buying merits, be ready to face the consequences. While it may be relatively difficult to prove the degree of participation in buying merits, once enough proof has been compiled then your account may most likely be banned.

It is highly discourage and once they are caught doing this act, they are facing severe consequence. There is also that fat chance of their accounts being banned by the moderators if overwhelming evidence has been proved that they indeed bought merits.

Merit is not for sale, it is not justified in forums. Merit is only to reward members who are able to contribute to the forum by posting informative, constructive, innovative or better known as quality posts. Those who carry out merit trading are a bunch of idiots who have no intention of growing or don't believe in their own abilities. Just imagine how much money must be spent to buy 100 merits in order to reach the Full Member rank. Expand your knowledge to contribute to forums, merit will come to you when you are able to produce quality posts.

If members decide to sell their smerit to people secretly it will make the forum to tough in earning merit and no amount of qualities you write in forum will be award a merit, and secondly merit will be very scarce to earn because everyone will be likely to make money with it's smerit, in which such implementation is not proper in my sight and I believe many people who know how the merit system was initiated will not like such implementation

Merits is made by the administrator to reward for those user here in forum contributed well. There are 110 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 33989 sMerit per 30 days

23035 merit was sent in the last 30 days.

Where 110 people have merit sourced in this forum.  And they are distributing thousands of merits every month. But they do not give merit to anyone out of love for relatives. Merit is given to those who post good quality and whose post is helpful to any user of this forum. And users other than merit source also distribute merit because when a user earns merit 1 Smerit is generated for every 2 merits in his account. and if one holds Smerit in his account then his account does not get any extra benefit. For this almost everyone distributes his Smerit without holding it. so getting merit is very easy task.  So it is better to try to get merit legitimately without buying/selling merit. DT members will not hesitate to red tag someone's account if merit buying/selling is revealed with their account.

Let's say you buy merits, you need a lot of it to rank-up, signature campaigns are looking for a minimum effort in the quality of posts to get paid, if you don't make that effort, buying merit points won't change anything.

It is a scam because other users get tired of creating high-quality posts while you get for merits for free are therefore merit is not a commodity to be bought or sold.

You will not be banned for buying/selling merits but may get negative trust and many will ignore your posts.

You have already stated exactly what I was going to say: No one will ban the account is either they give him negative trust, buying merit may seem like a way for some people to think that once they have merit, they can participate in any campaign they choose, but signature campaigns have many rules and regulations, and when they explain some of them, you won't want to become one of their victims. Additionally, quality posts are one of the best things that people look for before you have merit, even if you went out and bought merit, If you don't have a campaign, I think your buying of merit is meaningless because no one will permit you to join one because of your posts, which are also subpar.

The forum is not a place to rush things, so my advise to new members is to be patient in order to get a merit and write a quality post. If any forum members read it and truly understand it, they will automatically award you with a merit for it.

some new members, or maybe those who are old but have problems with their previous account, create an account and buy Merit to quickly rank up. useful or not I think it will only help them reach Full Member, or even just up to Member rank.
the goal is clear to join the bounty or signature campaign. that is why there are also some who buy accounts instead of buying Merit. and make a post then they make a post to the source of merit to ask for merit.

 If you need a honest answer to this thread then the answer is no, although theirs so specific way to punishment against those who buy Merits but it could bring trust issues amongst members like in a case where there's an agreement between two members and one refuses to comply, but them why would you be thinking of buying Merits when you still have more important things at hand, since you're still a low ranking Member your focus should be on learning from your seniors on how to create and come up with informative and educated topics that would fetch you Merits for free.

  However, come to think of it, if selling merit was allowed then the forum would had come up with a board where members would be allowed to buy and sell their merits, the well was created as a reward by the forum to members for good contributions and not as an agenda for buy and selling, it's a good thing you're beginning to understand some negative on-goings in the forum so as to avoid them  but I hope you also learn how to make good contributions as well so you'll begin to get Merits.
