Currently watching Slovenia vs. Cape Verde. Luka Doncic and his team need to win in order to secure the top spot but it seems like they are getting tough opposition by Cape Verde. Luka is only 2 of 11 but I assume that they will start to figure it out here and will take the win.

Slovenia is currently leading by 12 points, and based on their performance so far, it seems likely that they will secure the win.

They won the game 92-77, with Luka still being the top contributor with 19 points. What was the spread before the game? I missed this game; I could have bet on Slovenia to cover the spread as I believed they were the favorites to win.

Games that are still ongoing now;

China vs Puerto Rico
Iran vs Spain
Greece vs New Zealand

Luka is still the leading scorer even with the poor start, but that's how star players work. They will figure it out and will not stop
to attack, to continue finding the right touch.

Not sure about the spread, maybe you are right and those who bet for the handicap might secure a nice win a part from taking the ML.

Interesting to see how teams perform and how those NBA stars are trying to help their own national squad

I also forgot about the spreads but the ML odds aren't good enough for me as the Slovenians were expected to win the game. I was so focused on watching the game and was intrigued as to how Cape Verde was holding its own line. After reading the comment here I just realized that I missed the opportunity to bet on Slovenia when the scores were tied or very close. I was also confident that Slovenia would win on ML.

The Philippines mounted a remarkable comeback, showing their strength in the 4th quarter. However, they couldn't overcome Italy's strong 3-point shooting, and fell slightly short. Personally, I find their effort commendable, especially since I placed a bet on them with a +12 handicap – which worked out well. With their journey now concluded, it's time for the team to relax and embrace an early vacation.

That's for sure a good handicap and congratulations on that. They should have used that strength on the early quarters but that three point show by Italy was for sure a letdown to them, that was a fantastic show Italy made. Well, looks like it's the end and hope they learn a lot on it, I commend JC for playing in his country.

They were unable to effectively close out on the 3-point shooters due to Italy's well-executed screens. As Italy's shots continued to sink, their confidence grew, and their ball movement clearly demonstrated the implementation of their practiced strategies. They exhibited trust in each other, in contrast to the Philippines, which heavily relied on Clarkson. It appears that the Philippines made a slight adjustment in that game by having Clarkson serve as a passer when he was double-teamed. However, the challenge was that his teammates lacked proficiency in 3-point shooting.

They likely just not prepared, it really lacks chemistry.

It's very evident by the number of turnovers they had every game.

Since we have a poor system, we can't really expect a good chemistry with them but at least they tried their best knowing that we are going against the top 10 worlds best basketball team based on the rankings, that was still a good perfomance. As usual, the fans will blame the coaching staff without knowing anything, I believe Chot Reyet is not the only man who decides here so better not to blame him and trust the process, this is not the end for the team Philippines as we are still working to becoming a good team.  Most of the game are close enough to get a win, that was still a great experience for us.

And it looks like he didn't listen to his fellow coaches since he always use that dribble drive without taking until the game ends without any adjustment made. If he would take the suggestion of people working beside him for sure we can see some great adjustment especially when Philippines comes short or the opponent made an adjustment.

Caught the last quarter of this match and since China didn't have a victory before this match. They atleast got one before bowing out of the tournament.
I bet on the following matches today with Japan being the heavy favorites according to their very low odds.
I took the -10.5 pts handicap instead.
Also since it is the other host nations last match, don't think they won't put up a competitive match. So I went with the total of the match going over 162.5pts.
Which I found quite low considering having showed they can come from behind.
So they do have that fighting spirit in not just giving up also they would want to show the home crowd they will not just lay down and die even if they know their hopes have evaporated in this tournament already.

I forgot to update on what will happen after the battle in the 1st round.

So, 16 teams will be qualified for the 2nd round (2 teams in each Group) and the remaining 16 in the bottom (2 teams also in each group) will be playing for qualification in the Olympics.

Today, the games being played are those for the Olympic qualifiers. Tomorrow we will see a full blast 2nd round of the 16 who qualified.
There's still a chance for our countries who didn't make it to the 2nd round so let's not stop cheering for them for the Olympics.

Agree. I’m already done playing the blaming game since other team really show dominance against us. It only means that the level of basketball in our country is inferior compared to the rest of the world except SEA country which the only country we can dominate.

It’s still a waste if we can get the spot for Olympic while we have that kind of performance since we will face much stornger country in there that will give us more shameful defeat. Coach chot is right after all that this is a good learning experience to wake up and adjust to the basketball level that we are playing on our country. Basketball is popular here but the game play is just the same since we are not applying system that EU and US using. Also our size and genes is very unfavorable to this sports when against country like US that has a bigger and quicker built.

Look at Kai, Has the height advantage but moves really slow compared to other player in NBA with same size.

Don't be brutally speaking the truth mate but that's really the truth. I didn't watch the game today because I was expecting that it would be another disappointment to see how these boys are playing basketball and you're right. The other teams are just better, with or without an NBA player, I guess those people who have been talking about the system of how they play inside is the one that needs to be changed. Hopefully we, team Germany, can beat Georgia today so we don't have pressure versus Slovenia. If we win and SLO beat AUS we are through, we lose and we must beat Slovenia which will be tough.

Agree with you, those games were mostly unwatchable.  I too am looking forward to the ger/aus game. Both good teams but the one I really want to see is Spain Canada.  Canada is looking pretty good this year and are a sneaky pull to win this whole thing.  Just hope the games are good.

Well i honestly dont know why fiba made this kind of competition,it would be better like in football if you get knocked out in the group you go home. The only games that are intresting in these kind of matches are those that are fighting for the olympic games,still those teams are really weak so i dont think they can do anything big in the olympic games aswell.

Nice, Japan is no doubt an interesting team on this world cup. I have remembered them as a nation that's not really for basketball but they're doing better than the Philippines. I'm sad but at the same time happy because they're improving their basketball. I am sad because of our team didn't even took any win, maybe because of how strong these teams are when they've faced it and they didn't able to beat them.

The score was that far when they've won against Philippines. You just don't wanna watch the entire match when you know that there's something wrong with them defeating South Sudan. It's for Paris Olympics and these teams did also bad on this world cup but they still have that chance for the Olympics with these wins that they've made. The point system of FIBA is actually giving hope but not anymore to the national team of Philippines.

Very basic because he's the play maker and other teammates were just relying the play on him. They all knew what's going to happen and one boxout to Clarkson then it's gonna be a hard attack for the team. This has been repeatedly done and it's like a forceful points in the paint being made all over the time by Clarkson.

Greece showed nothing so far and also won't do in those next 2 games. Should be an easy one.
With Slovenia it's a tricky game. First of all it's do or die for Australia. They lose and they are out pretty much, so they will throw in everything they can. Slovenia of course depends on 1 player and 1 player only. If Luka has a bad day, it's good night for them.

It's really hard to predict, so I will just enjoy watching this one.

By the way, the new power rankings are out and Germany is on 2nd position, very cool.
