We don't know the real story of this man who takes his life after a loss in a bet. But in my perspective, if that's the only case about the bet, I wouldn't commit suicide even if I lost all my money in the gambling bet. Maybe the guy who takes his life has other problems, and the only solution is winning this bet to clear his debt to other people. These people might threaten his family or loved ones, and the only thing that comes to his mind is to kill himself to protect his loved ones.

Apparently this is a true live event happened in my State this week and almost everyone is talking about it. About a young man that killed himself after a gamble loss, he even left a message for his family and friends before taking his life.  But I wonder why should someone take his own life  just because he lost  #2.5 million to gambling an amount  equivalent to just about $3k. I can relate to his loss but taking your life is something unimaginable and unjustifiable to do. No matter the regrets suicide isn't an option to be taking as a solution , you are only leaving bigger pains  behind for your loved ones.

This is just another reminder to we all gamblers that no bet is sure and guaranteed, don't ever use an amount of money you are not comfortable to lose just because you feel convicted in your mind that the game will play as predicted. There's no such thing as sure bet in gambling.

Easy to say but when you are on his shoes and it is an amount that you do sure that you cant pay off then you might really be ending up on the same decision on which we cant really be able to tell
if there would really be some other problems aside from gambling on which that victim had been able to experience and this is why we cant really be able to say on the actual reason.
Somewhat it is true that in any problem there's a solution and since its just money then there's always a solution and its not really that worth on trying to have a suicide just to solve out everything.
Do really knows that his family would be the ones will really be boggling on the said amount? So it is really just that useless or pointless on what he had done.

$3000 might not sound much but we do know that it isnt something that each country does have that the same situation when it comes to fiat value on which we dont
really have the same living or status.

He is still young, he also still has the ability to make more money than he has spent. His decision to end his life has left deep wounds on his family, they also never expected to face this reality. Gambling sometimes destroys a person's life if they cannot control themselves and the person may have lost hope of surviving or may have taken out a loan that he cannot repay and the only thing that can make him calm is to commit suicide but this is not the only solutions.
ourlives are more valuable than that money so for people out there who gamble please use the money you can afford and don't expect gambling to double your money because gambling is just a game created for fun don't let something like this happen to you and this story can be used as a lesson for gamblers out there not to indulge in excessive gambling activities, and one thing is that gambling addiction can make a person's mental state do things that are out of control, so prevent this behavior and don't let gambling dominate our minds.

Sometimes a gambler needs someone to talk to so they can give advice so they can live a better life and avoid things like this. It's sad to see people who end their lives just because they are in trouble, even though there are many people out there who live a life full of hardship but are trying. Someone who suffers huge losses from gambling may not be able to think clearly to find a solution to the problem. So we may have or have often heard the news about someone who committed suicide because he could not bear to see his many losses. They decided to commit suicide because they thought it was the best solution they could do.

They are very embarrassed and afraid to talk about it with their friends or even family members. They chose to keep their loss and chose to commit suicide. Maybe they are unable to accept the consequences of what happened to them. That's what makes them end their lives so they can be free. But in truth, it is his family who will suffer from his loss.

I hope never to experience losing a huge amount of money from gambling. I also don't expect to end my life just because of that loss. That's why if we want to gamble, we only use the money we can afford.

I just feel sorry for the family he left behind, they must have been devastated by his departure, ending his life in such a dishonorable way. Whatever the reason, suicide is not a way to solve problems, it will only add to new problems. A person must have the thought that his life means a lot to himself and the people around him and suicide is not a solution to anything, it is just stupidity. I read about this new earlier today,  and I wanted to see more fact about the nature and amount he lost, until I read this thread that I got the details of what really happen to this young man,  and the only thing I can say about this incident is that,  there is more to the story than what we read,  may be the guy have being battling depression for a while now,  which is why he can go on that kind of insane betting  pattern and huge stake.

So before we blame it all on gambling,  let us also first of all consider the other factors that could have lead him into gambling and from the look of things,  it seems that the guy have issues with gambling addictions for him to have staked such an amount that he can't afford to lose,  but even at that,  the situation is not up to what should have lead him to take his own life for whatever reasons.

Have you ever been in a very deep mess that you put your trust in gambling? That you see gambling as your only and last option to solving your problem, and then you take the highest risk you've never imagined you'd ever take, and then after that, everything is washed down the drain and you loose everything and getting into more trouble. That's exactly where the actual depression starts. I agree that there's more to that story because I don't believe someone would just wake up one morning go to a casino or an online casino and then just decide to gamble with such an amount that you know you're not prepared to loose, there's a backstory there but the media won't tell us, the blame will all go to gambling. Regardless, this is the main reason people are asked o gamble responsibly but people ignore that fact and follow their instincts and emotions.

There's no specific amount that $3k is huge converted to our local currency, many commit suicide because of failure, failure to live up to the expectation of people who look upon them, people who commit do not have a support system that will make them live confidently and failure like this can trigger suicide, another oen is depression, in this case, he is depressed that he loses that money that he cannot cope with that.

There's no specific amount it could be a small or huge amount but the depression that will trigger suicide tendency is the same, if you have a friend who is prone to depression advice him to stop gambling or monitor or guide him

Yeah, the deceased might be indebted to someone who's aggressively asking him to repay. A businessman should be able to withstand gambling threats, though the correlation between gambling and suicide is not completely clear, as many factors lead to suicide. Depression, anxiety, hopelessness etc, these things can be generated via gambling, and multiple factors like heartbreaks, loss of a loved one, or a collapse of business. However, the blame immediately goes to gambling in most people's lives. The deceased may have been a compulsive gambler, whose ill gambling behavior attracted the attention of the society. His business may have suffered a series of losses and he'd be bittered to lose out more money in gambling. And also affects his memory, the deceased would be forced to engage in a decision, that he doesn't understand or have direct control over. I need to know why gambling addicts mostly end up being suicidal compared to drug addicts.

I think it's not about the amount of money that you have lost in gambling, it's about the burden of losing that money. Who knows, maybe that money is allotted for this future or for his kids and his family. And unfortunately, he failed them by losing that money. And so he felt guilty that the only way to get out is to take his own life.

Tragedy, but I dont think this is related to gambling. Gambling was only one of the triggers that forced him to made such decision. Imo, decision to make a suicide has a collective context. People dont take such decisions randomly and instantly. They think about it during some period of time. Make a list of pros and cons, think if this would help or harm others; if it can be said like that.

I find it stupid to die because of money. Money is a resource. They can always be earned. No matter how long it might take, a year, 30 years or whole life. The guy could have started working and raising those 2.5million naira again. Who know what would happen to him next day. Maybe he would have found a wallet with twice as more money.

It's not the amount but the weakness of the character that leads a gambler to commit suicide, they think they are weak and live in disappointment they lose their motivation to live because they think they are useless.

Some people are really fragile, and no one probably expected that this person would commit suicide. He may be weak in our sight, but I can imagine maybe this guy always experiences a consecutive loss every time he gambles. Since it is related to gambling, he may have nothing to talk to about his struggles with gambling. That kind of situation is really hard and can make any individual think negatively.

What happened to the gamblers who ended up like this is unfortunate. However, as a gambler, we should realize and think deeply about how long they keep their problems to themselves which brings them to the level of being capable of doing such things.

Well honestly, I don't think anyone can put himself in somebody else's shoes when we are talking about suicide. We have no idea what is going on inside someone's mind that leads to such an act. Who knows if that amount of money is all he has, or if that is just another driving point for him to end his life. This is not the first case that someone's life has gone to waste due to gambling, that's why all things have to be taken in moderation. It's just sad that someone has to come to that solution to ease pain or suffering one is going through.

It was such a sad news because he has brought pain to his family and loved ones. His problem was that he was addicted to gambling and gambled more than he could afford to lose. His gambling addiction even led him to access loans to fuel his gambling habits. We can assume that he caused the problem for himself and wouldn't have killed himself. He needed help but couldn't but he couldn't get one. Maybe he was hiding his addiction or nobody cared about him.

His society also failed him because he complained that he became addicted to gambling because of unemployment. The government has failed to live up to the responsibility of providing for its citizens. However, had no excuse to kill himself because there would have been other means to settle his debt.

I'm glad you wrote about it in this forum, especially on the gambling discussion board, the more threads discussing this will help the forum community to avoid what is called gambling addiction, everything definitely starts from gambling addiction which makes someone feel like they are losing their mind by playing beyond their limits and using money. that should not be used, for example money borrowed from loan sharks.

But I don't know the clear reason from this story. Maybe there is a reason why he had to end his life only with money which is actually not too big for anyone and maybe he can get it again, but it seems like there is something we don't know much about the case in this thread, a lot There was a case in my country where a man committed suicide because he had a debt to an evil loan shark where he felt threatened by the debt collector which made him mentally depressed and finally killed himself, I think it is possible that the case is the same because of mental pressure.

I hope this case will be a lesson for all of us as gamblers not to gamble using money that we don't need to spend, for example money that is very important for our lives, it's better to gamble using money that we don't use and cold money.

I feel sorry for the death of such a young person. As a few others have already mentioned, it's best not to make any assumptions or jump to any conclusions about someone we don't know. We weren't in his shoes, and he was possibly suffering and battling demons inside him to go ahead with such an act. Gambling addiction was probably just the tip of the iceberg; he was probably suffering from other mental illnesses such as depression, and gambling was his escape that turned into addiction, just like alcoholism. The loss of his money was likely the last straw, and he couldn't handle it anymore and committed suicide.

Negative events are unpredictable, and every individual may act differently; thus, it's impossible to foresee how someone will react. Just because we won't go to extreme measures doesn't mean that someone else won't.

He probably entered into gambling for the wrong reasons and not prepared for what is involved in gambling. From the income level of his country, $3k is enough to set up a business like POS, that could have been fetching him profits , from the profit he could finance his gambling. Unfortunately, he put everything he had into gambling without any caution and taking into account the risk associated with gambling. The first thing every gambler must do is to establish the main stream of income first and let gambling just be another one probably taken as a means of earning passive income.  Assuming this young man have an established business that guarantees a steady flow of finance, he wouldn't have killed himself. Taking his life was not the right thing to do.

There have been a lot of post in this board about bankroll management. Those post should be taking seriously because that is a key part of gambling. Just like you said, there is no sure bet anywhere, we must learn to accept this fact so that the journey will not be frustrating.

It's sad to know that there is someone who committed suicide because of losing money in gambling. We can't deny the fact that all of us has a different ways on how to deal our problem, but this one is the worst case scenario which I can't imagine that I will do it if I'm in his situation. Stress, depression and lot of problems can lead us to do this kind of thing and it is very alarming, sometimes those people we see laughing and smiling but deep inside, they are carrying unsaid thoughts so it's better to check some of our family members and friends.
