Once addiction comes into a point that it is already severe then its true that he/she would really be only listening into those people whom he had been that believing into and as a friend then it would be that less

I have to say wow with such amount, I'm very sure that this wouldn't be the exact amount he has lost, he has lost more than that but because he want to cover up for his own mistake, he will not tell you the exact amount. I feel even the 20% is much, let him make it 10% or even less, once he is done playing what he has on his betting account, he can go engage into other activities, gambling isn't the only place he can have fun, there more than 100 outdoor activities to do even though you are a introverted person.

True, the bad view of gambling as a whole in the eyes of society is none other than because there are many irresponsible gamblers or especially gamblers who have entered the addiction phase where they always act excessively, crazier than before and more aggressive in terms of pursuing victory so that the impact they experience is truly unimaginable which is very significant and can harm more people around them. Like the person in your story where he was desperate to sell his shop, this is quite a worrying situation where maybe it is his only shop that has helped his life in terms of finances, or means one of their income to survive but because of excessive gambling activities then obviously as we know that it is very possible to eventually sell all the valuables they have just for gambling.

I don't want to be in your friend's shoes he just cannot accept his losses and he is very depressed about not recovering his losses he might end up losing everything because you've mentioned that he is already on loans and he's not listening to advice too.

I think you need concerted efforts from all his relatives and friends you should all voice your concern to him and ask him to be rehabilitated if many of his loved ones will tell him what he's doing is wrong, there's a big possibility that he will listen to all of you and agreed to be rehabilitated.

It's hard to stop a gambler who is now at the purpose of getting back ALL LOSSES.

No responsible gambler will think of recovering the total losses made IN THE WHOLE TIME DOING GAMBLING. It's impossible even for billionaires.

Try to give him advice on setting up a business instead and help him. Form a partnership with him. With the losses your friend made in gambling, that's already good capital to start a semi-big business and can cover other business-related spending throughout the process.

In my opinion, gambling addiction can have an impact on the psychology of gamblers. The impact can vary depending on how severe the addiction is, if it is too severe then it is very likely that the addict will have behavior that disturbs him or his environment. The lowest addiction is that you start thinking about how to win bets all the time, especially when you are alone, but when it becomes a serious addiction then you will think about how to get money so you can gamble.
