Honestly, 20% of his salary is still quite a lot so how much more if all of it being spent. This is the cycle of addicted gamblers that can't control themselves anymore. Even you are best of friends, that guy won't just listen to you.

Never mind gambling, investing with 100% of your salary is considered unwise even though it is not bad. It is difficult to recover from losses from gambling because it can increase the losses even more and many people cannot accept the losses. They must be able to realize that if they try to recover from their loss, they must be prepared if they experience an even bigger loss later. You should advise him to totally quit gambling if he is just chasing losses as reason of his gambling. Your suggestion of lower bankroll will not make a change to this user assuming he follow you with this bankroll suggestion because he will surely keep losing due to his goal that will make him subject to more risky bet than regular gambler bets.

I really hate chasing losses especially if the amount is already piling up to huge amount which is already equivalent to more than a month of my income. The point is in your friend himself and how he responds to his gambling. In general, I support your point of view, losing does not make anyone happier and no one likes to lose.
