Real Madrid qualifies after the penalty shootout. I feel so bad for Atletico Madrid because they really tried it's just that they met Real Madrid too early. Real Madrid has really been. Atletico and Simeone nemesis in this competition because I really can't remember when they eliminated Real Madrid from the Champions League when they meet, it has always been Real Madrid doing the damages to Atletico Madrid in the competition.

2 representatives of the English League qualified by securing a place in the last 8 leaving Liverpool, actually Arsenal had won by a landslide in Leg 1 so I will not focus too much on their performance in Leg 2. Aston Villa also continued to perform well in the Champions League and this was their best season. Who knows how far these 2 representatives will advance in the last 8 against the strongest teams. Surprisingly Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid had to continue the match to extra time, the game was quite tight because Madrid had difficulty penetrating Atletico solid defense since the first half. Realmadrid almost losed it but anyways they made it even though they had the chance to seal everything once again @70'min..but Vini missed it. For me ATM deserve to win this game, they did everything necessary to get a win and they did but the 1 goal wasn't enough to seal the deal and the Madrid side was poor and they didn't act like they used to when it comes to the champions league, who's going to qualify next between ATM and Madrid?

It was a game full of pressure alright, the more reason why, everything should have been just perfect with Vini Jnr taking the spot kick. I think what got him was over confidence in his play. He was so much in a hurry to bring Real Madrid to a level term and ahead on aggregate that he didn’t aim the ball on target at least. Ancelotti anticipated him and knew he would be out for redemption should the game get to penalties which it eventually did and took Vini Jnr out 6minutes to the time.

Rules are rules and which ever how harsh it seemed, Real Madrid got the better of it. He slipped and the ball only shyly slipped off the left foot, I really wished that was given. Not sure if Alvarez's kick was disallowed. I guess the goal was given.
What a game. I think penalty was the best way to settle the game, after a long battle from the very first minute. Both teams deserved to make it through, but unfortunately, we can have only one winner. They will face Arsenal in the next round. I won't say much about that game now because I don't want to get something outside my expectations. Though, I already know the favorite to win that game, but I prefer to enjoy whatever drama that will unfold.

And as for that penalty that Vini missed. Well, the good thing was that they won the game, or he would have being the talk of the Media. Congrats to Real Madrid and others that made it through. Just hope the coming international break doesn't cost any of these teams, as injuries can strike at anytime.

My simple predictions of the teams that go through the second leg fixture for the round of 16 qualification matches

Lille would win Dortmund, to qualify to the next round.
Arsenal has already qualified for round 8; there is no possibility that PSV Eindhoven will score up to 3 goals. Talk more of the 6-goal difference(7-1).
Aston Villa will qualify over Club Brugge, and Real Madrid will narrowly win against Atletico Madrid to qualify for the next round of Champions League matches

I also thought that Dortmund would lose, but they won against LOSC with an aggregate of 2-3.

With the replays from different angles I've seen, the ball didn't hit his second foot. I think they were unlucky there to get that call against them. Decisions like this should be looked at more crucially because they are game-deciding decisions.
let's say it did touch his second foot, and is a double kick, shouldn't it be retaken? Why just cancel it and rule it out as a miss? Well, all we can do is talk about it, the decision has been made and Real Madrid are through on penalties.

Real Madrid will face Arsenal and that is another interesting fixture that I would be looking forward to. I see Real Madrid in the semi finals.

I thought this game was suppose to be a very boring game like the usual Madrid derby but everything came hot in this encounter and the pressure Atletico Madrid came with is something I haven't seen them do, not in the champions league or even in the la Liga against a stronger side as Madrid, it was so interesting that no one can get his or her eyes off the Tv screen.

Watching this Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid fixture, I don’t even know what to expect from either of the teams any more. Any team that should win match should win it fair and square, that is where it will be real fun.

The drama and suspense is really what makes the champions League a distinct competition, vini jnr PK miss brought the game this far, but then it could as well have happened to any other player, although I noticed he was in rush to take the spot kick, maybe he would have left it for mbappé. Obviously Ancelotti knew he would want to correct that mistake with the 5-5 PK,  which will be too emotional, probably he might even miss it again, so I commend Ancelotti for that vini jrn sub.

As for the rules, I didn't even take cognizance as at when the Athletico player took that PK that it was double tapping, I think it was the VAR that called the attention of the Ref on that action, however even when Oblack got them back in the game, it was obvious that the day wasn't for them as they still went on to miss another spot kick before finally Rudiger came to seal the victory for Madrid.

Anybody actually looking towards this game to be boring has definitely never been watching the Madrid derby in the champions league, I hardly see any other tie usually packed with drama as this tie, I have watched the tie multiple times including champions league finals and it is always breathtaking. Immediately I saw the early goal came I thought we could see the game till 90 minute because Atletico Madrid have never lost at home in a champions league knockout stage before.

Atletico were by far the better team in the first half but Madrid grew into the game a little bit after Ancelotti made some changes, overall the game was good, tactically Simone won on this one because to me Ancelloti selection today was not good. Vinicius should be converting those penalties in my opinion.

It is a rule that applies everywhere else on the pitch and not just during penalties. When taking a spot kick from anywhere on the pitch, you don’t get to touch the ball twice. Unfortunately for Alvarez, he slipped and the ball only slightly touched his left foot. It was a close call but, VAR made sure of it none the less. Real Madrid always do find a way to qualify I tell you, this was yet another.

There were some complaints on either the Mbappe penalty awarded should have come with a red card as well. Given the fact that, the defender didn’t go for the ball but, went for Mbappe instead and that was a goal scoring opportunity. What really prevented a red not being given and instead, the referee went for a red.
I liked the decision though, it ensured a balance football all 90minutes plus extra time.

This is the first time this kind of penalty mistake is happening in the football history, I haven't seen it before or like it happens regularly, no. It just making me feeling marvel as to why this player wouldn't retake the penalty kick again, this decision needs to be checked by football federation in case similar stuffs happen in the future.
