(Basketball) Olympic Games Paris 2024 - Betting discussions

The game between Serbia and Australia was very entertaining. In the first half, Australia was up by about 24 points, but Serbia slowly came back with a strong third-quarter run. At some point, they even led by 7 points. However, Patty Mills brought the game into overtime with his clutch 2-pointer. In overtime, Australia managed to take the lead, but Serbia, executing better, ultimately won the game. It was a nail-biting match, and I hope we see more games like that now that we're in the semi-finals.

Regarding the three outcomes, they were as expected, except for Canada losing to France, which was surprising considering Canada was ranked second, just behind the USA. Now we're down to the four teams in the semi-finals:

France vs. Germany
USA vs. Serbia

1/4 finals were great.
Germany - Greece. Very solid game from Germany, they show that winning World Cup wasn't luck. While Greece, Giannis is great, but you can't achieve something big without players who can shoot from 3pt.
Serbia - Australia. What a comeback from Serbia from -24. How Australia looked after halftime, I'm surprised that they made it to overtime. This loss means end of Patty Mills era in national team. Maybe he isn't something special in club basketball, but he was so great playing for national team.
France - Canada. Probably little surprise. Great coach decision to keep Gobert on bench and let Lessort to play, he had such beast performance. And referees was worst part of game, some calls were in favour of France.
Now Brazil - USA and it's hard to expect something interesting, USA is already leading by 14.

Yeah, but we should give credit to the defense that France put up here, and their height advantage was evident in the first quarter. And then they have a hot shooting in the first and Canada was not able to bounce back because of that great defense.

And I do agree, I thought that Canada will win here, but I guess it's clearly evident that the homecourt advantage is still true even in the Olympics. Also great game by the Serbians against Australia. The Australians live up to the hype of being a underdog and they almost got it if not for Jokic's basketball IQ.

However, they'll have to face Team USA again, which dominated them last time, so it’s hard to expect they’ll match up well. Anyway, I hope the finals will be great, and I think Germany is the most deserving team to face Team USA. I'd love to see Schröder beat the old LeBron.

I think the USA is the only team that is hard to beat. South Sudan almost beat them in a tune-up game, but in actual competition, they have been dominating. It was only during the first quarter of their first meeting with Serbia where Team USA struggled a bit, but they made the right adjustments and controlled the second half. I know everyone expects Team USA to win, but we know upsets are possible, just like what happened to Canada against France. We should also consider that possibility.

Which matchup is more fun to watch: USA vs. Germany or France vs. Serbia?

I agree about Jokic's basketball IQ. That's almost a sure win for Team Australia but then, being a big man with great basketball IQ led the team to win.
And I was about to bet on their upcoming match but it seems that the odds aren't favorable to me. I want to take that 10.00 odds for Serbia but I know that USA got this. Even the other potential bets that I can make like total scoring and such, I avoided them. But instead, I went to the other match of France and Germany and just thrown some money for France.

I wasn't sure the USA girls were actually going to lose in the game, they are unarguably the best in the world of basketball tournaments. However I am impressed with the energy the Nigeria women gave in all throughout each game ending with a ground slam record of the first African side to reach the quarter finals in the Olympics.

 One disadvantage I notice about the Nigeria women was that the USA women have better heights than them. Secondly, the referee gave many free throws to the USA women. Anyway, congrats to the USA on making it to the next round.

The ref didn't give them free throws, if you get fouled then they need to call it.  I didn't think the game was called in favor either way.  Nigeria showed more than I expected.  The international women's game is getting better each year but the US is still dominant. 

Can't wait for the men's semis amd then the final.  Disappointed Canada bowed out.  They had a terrible game against France, maybe a little home cooking there.

I was going to place a bet on the United States, and while I do think that they will destroy Brazil much the same as they have every other teams so far, I'm not sure they are going to end up winning by 26 points or more.  As someone from the United States it's hard for me to place bets on any other country, even if I still think they are going to lose.  Just feels almost sacrilegious.

I don't know if you watch the game, but it was not that close, France took a big early lead in the first quarter because they are shooting high percentage. And although team Canada was able to cut down the lead to 5 or 6 if I'm not mistaken, France again took the game with their good defense and then taking the shots from the outside.

He had struggled because of the good defense being thrown on him. But I do agree that it is somewhat disappointed for them as they are the second rank team behind team USA to win and now they are out of the medal contention.

I'll go with France +5.5 against Germany here at 1.85.

It was a absolute clinic from Jokic, specially in the OT, he block a shot by Jiddey, and then change the shot of Patty Mills, he didn't get the rebound but was able to tap it to his team mates. Although Jokic lost the ball in the next possession, he was able to get it back and then get a shot. Another good defense by the Serbs, Jokic going on isolation in the corner to score again.

But now they have tough time against the USA team. I'm not sure if they still have something in their tank to pull an upset. And they are 11:1 underdog for those who wanted to see what are the opening line.

The handicap is +/-14.5, so that's how big the USA team as the favorite to win against Serbia.

I don't know if I'll be able to bet pregame; I think I'll just watch and wait for the line to drop or for Germany to become the underdog and that's when I'll place my bet on them.

But they will be against the home crowd so I expect that they will get a lot of boo's when someone touches the ball from them.

After having big expectations from Canada, they just said goodbye in the quarter finals already. Unbelievable... They lost to France though but they were actually the better side in the tournament until this moment. I'm not surprised with Greece. They were already inconsistent. Giannis' presence didn't change things much. He was individually good but the team didn't look that much. 

My favourites are France and USA now. It is an easy work for USA. Jokic can't carry his team against them. France - Germany is a tough one, I know. But I think if France can eliminate Canada they can do it to Germany too.

I havent followed whole basketball discipline during whole event, but it looks like people are more cheered and interested to see who will take silver and bronze medals, because it was unspokenly decided that US dream team is taking gold, again. They probably wanted to match Canada’s quickness, and it worked well for them. I think their outside shooting was the game-changer, but they’re not really known for that, so I doubt they’ll be able to repeat the same performance.

Bet on your your team no matter what, and trust your dream. That's a lot of money for a moneyline bet if you bet on Serbia to win. Team USA has sent their best players after failing in the FIBA World Cup, so it would take a miracle for Serbia to win, but that is not impossible. Serbia demonstrated toughness against Australia as when they were down they came back to win. Who knows, they could do that against the USA.

Just trust Germany on this. they made it once, they can do it again for sure. Refs should make sure the game is fair, and if that will happen, it's still Germany who have the edge here despite expecting a huge crowd favoring the host country. This is like a game 7 at the home court of the opponent for Germany.

USA is a 16 point favorite today vs Serbia. They are 2-0 vs Serbia so far in the olympics but I think some smart money might be taking the points today. We should see some adjustments by the Serbian team and this being an elimination game we should see max effort by Jokic today. I think the USA wins the game, just maybe not by 16+.

Why would you like to see other champions than USA while USA has their best roster right now. It will be a shame for them to be beaten with this roster though.

France is now struggling because Wemby can’t find his rhythm on this game. France is just catching up with Germany aggression but can’t manage to get a lead or close the gap.

Wemby is more than a liability on this game since his defense is useless while he can’t position properly inside or even made a jump shot.
