Before the Olympics basketball started, I really pick Team USA to win the gold medal, and for the silver it would be Germany or Serbia. But Serbia will not take silver since they the same bracket as Team USA in the quarterfinals. I didn't expect France to get the Silver. I initially thought they would not make semifinals vs Germany because France almost lose to Japan if it weren't for the referee (3pts foul counted call).

That's because we based it on the rankings, but there were surprises in the competition, just like when Canada lost to France. And Australia was even struggling when they were ranked in the top 3, if I'm not mistaken. France was really a surprise, and a big factor was that they were the host team, and you know what could potentially happen with that.

What if Team USA hadn't made a comeback in their game against Serbia? Who do you think would have won the gold, Serbia or France? I'll go with Serbia.

I think France would win the gold due the reason I mentioned above.

If Serbia made it to the finale instead of USA, I don't think France would be able to defeat Serbia. We are talking about a team that made serious difficulties for USA. Serbia were nearly eliminating them but they lost the chance by inches.    Besides no matter the winner is, it would still be nice to see a final match without USA in it.

USA have been dominating for 5 Olympics tournament. I don't like this kind of a domination in any sports field. I like to see different winners as often as possible. It isn't fun to guess the winner even before the tournament starts.

It was fun to watch the final game honestly. Especially the final quarter.    Curry started the show in this quarter by amazing three-pointers. He took the biggest responsibility to bring the gold medal home there. It was really nice to see him and LeBron both being very zealous to win. LeBron is such a legend that he is never out of energy. And Curry is absolutely the best shooter in history without dispute.  

Yabusele - Wembanyama duo did their best and made a big contribution to France. But it was still very difficult to keep up with these big players.

France is not a bad team, they have very good players. But once your opponent is USA, there is nothing you can do. Imagine a team consisting of the best players in the world, who could compete against it? You can't beat them with European basketball. As a result, we can say that we watched a final as everyone expected, and USA became the champion without any difficulty.
Nando de Colo performed very well and made a great contribution to the team. He is older now but his energy never runs out, he played a very good game

Yeah right. I mean NBA is the peak of basketball globally while team USA are composed of top players on that peak league so literally USA is unbeatable by team that composed of some NBA players with regular players that can’t enter the NBA league.

France will be a monster team once Wembanyama gather more experience on NBA since France already have a good roster

He's funny and it was an issue with France and Cameroon on which country he'd represent. He's got a gold now and people should just move on as the Olympics Men's Basketball has already its winners. And yeah, oh my, Steph Curry doing it at the Olympics as well. 8 three's and then he had that run in the last couple of minutes when France doesn't want to go away. You can see everyone in the team is really pump up for this game. Lebron flexing, KD had some defensive gem and then his perimeter jump shot, unstoppable. And then we have the whole team trash talking France and the crowd.

It's funny actually when they're also including the fans and giving them what they want. Well, it's about the pride and they're free to be all out.

The Women's gold medal match concluded about an hour ago and if you're a French citizen you should be very proud of your Women's team. They gave the USA all they could handle and led the game by 10 at 1 point. Excellent defense and steady offense. If they could shoot better from 3 point range, they would have won the gold.

I think both the Men and Women's teams better start worrying for the USA. They aren't going to dominate for much longer.

It would be a weird lineup to have three 7 footers in the game.  While yes sounds like they would be impossible to cover I think the US would have just used a mobile lineup that would be a tough cover.  Who would have played the small forward role lol.  Glad the US had embid because he played an important role in the lead up to the finals.  The semi final game against Serbia would have ended completely different without him.

France started by playing Gobert and Wemby together, and it didn't work out well. However, if that combination is Embiid and Wemby, I think it could be different. Then again, we're just discussing things we've never seen before, so there's no guarantee it would work as we initially thought, like when we believed Gobert and Wemby would be tough to beat, but it turned out they weren't.

Agreed there is no way to play three 7 footers on the floor together which is why no team does that today.  But if you are heavy at the center position does that make it better or worse.  I know this tourny means a lot but at least one of them would have played minimal minutes and be disengaged I'm not sure that would work either.  France played extreme well and they shoudk be proud of how the results laid out, I didn't expect it to be as close as it was.  Nothing wrong with silver here

I would agree that team Serbia is better than team France, but you have to understand that France has the homecourt advantage that why they are the giant killer in this tournament. The have knockout two of the favorites, in Canada and then Germany.

And in the other game, USA flexing their muscle against Serbia. Crowd seems to be pro Serbian as obviously there are a lot of team cheering in the crowd and very happy as they took a good lead. But then again, USA with Lebron as they pulls off furious comeback and beat the Serbian in a very tense game.

IMO, if Japan just beaten France, they won't be recognized like that. It was almost a game for Japan, it actually was. I don't mind about the crowd.
There's always bias for any team there as they've got supporters from the homecourt of France and anyone that came there to support their teams.

Serbia was about to beat Team USA but then Team USA able to have a come back. And Team USA beat France and Serbia can definitely beat them as well.

Not a bad team at all.  I wouldn't say that the USA became champion without difficulty.  There was really no good reason for them to ever get beat, but both Serbia and France played them really damn well, and they had me over here in the US losing my mind for both their games.  Very exciting.

Can't say I agree that the US should be worried mens/womens basketball wise.  We've got tons of starts waiting in the wings.  Anthony Edwards being that main guy, before long he'll be the best basketball player in the world IMO.  Plus plenty of other young stars that were both on and not on the team ( guys like Brown, Ja Morant etc that are young and the future of US basketball waiting to take over).

Yeah was a crazy Olympics and even crazier that both the Women's and men's team had to beat the French teams on their home court to win gold.  In terms of who shoukd be scared, the meds team most other countries have caught up and it's been known with tons of loses along the way.  The Women's team has less to worry about.  While yes the French team brought them to the brink they dominated every other team and think now that they've been pressed they will come out stronger.  Not sure if the world has caught up in basketball yet for the girls side of the house.

Of course USA is playing in France and it looks like the crowd is against them, specially in the finals against the home team, nevertheless, they show what they got. And even if France try to make it close, Curry sank four 3's in that stretch to silent the crowd and shows why he is the greatest shooter of all time.

Yeah, USA still dominates the men's and women's basketball, but it seems that the world is really catching up with them. In the next Olympics if they don't send their best players, there are possibilities that they are going to be upset by countries like Serbia, Germany or Canada.

I saw the game and I have to say that there will literally be a lesson taught by the USA team that turned out to be the biggest of the tournament and obviously dominated the game and the tournament but it was normal having such a stellar team curry was really legendary that player, but I would also like to say that France had a very good game and they defended themselves well.

The French Women's Basketball Team really performed very well in the final. I thought the US would win this match easily, but it turns out that France really didn't give the US an easy match. At first, France didn't really stand out in the first quarter but their performance improved in the rest of the quarters, and they clung to the US until the end of the match. The final shot of Gabby Williams is very dramatic, and if only she did it a few centimeters behind the line, then it could give a chance to extend the game to overtime.

The closest rival to the USA, in my opinion, is Serbia. It's unfortunate they didn't meet in the Finals, but that was fine because France also proved they don't go down easy, even though they weren't really leading the game. It was fun to watch Curry, LeBron, and Durant playing together because this could possibly be their last Olympics participation. Four years from now, who knows, they might have already retired from the league.
