I'm trying to bet on South Sudan to win at least a Bronze Medal, but I can't because the bookmakers for that market have set limits and it has already reached. Odds of 500x are quite good to take a risk on for this market. The exhibition match gives me hope that South Sudan can win at least a bronze medal. Since I can't bet on that market, I placed bets on Olympic Games 2024 - Basketball - Stage of Elimination - South Sudan. I placed bets on Winner (x500). Semi-Finals (x200) and Runner-Up (x50) since those are allowed. What do you think?

Their match against US is promising. Many were surprised with their performance because of their back story. I believe I watched many videos on Facebook about their training which is using huge wheels and different physical approach just to improve their basketball skills.

The result is quite impressive because they almost beat USA despite their country is not well equipped with facilities for basketball.

Is there a bookmaker offering special bets like this which a team can place at least bronze? I think this bet will fall on special categories or outright.
https://stake.games/sports/outright/basketball/international/olympic-games/44308372-olympic-games-2024 (Look for Top 3)

Yes, you can check at Stake.com, but as I mentioned the bet limit has already been reached, so you can't place any amount. I first tried looking at shuffle.com, but I couldn't find Olympic basketball outright for this kind of market.

I think it's safe to bet on the USA because I'm sure they can win at least bronze, but the odds are not worth it at 1.03 the last time I checked.

Or, using that same link you gave, he can bet here.

Since he is assuming that South Sudan might get a bronze then I think they will have to be in the qualifying and the semis.
Truly, what that team showed against the USA team was quite phenomenal and it surprised a lot of basketball enthusiasts. I didn't know anything about their training but it's fruits have shown even though that is just an exhibition match. They fought well and I think they should keep that same confidence and effort and maybe they will really get that bronze medal or even better.

The qualifying match is near, which team do you think will win the initial games?

https://stake.games/sports/basketball/international/olympic-games
I don't want to underestimate Spain but Australia is strong so I will take that -3.5 for Australia.
Germany might cover that -14.5 against Japan.
France too with that -10.5 against Brazil.

Germany might cover that -14.5 against Japan.
France too with that -10.5 against Brazil.

I'm thinking the same and considering a parlay of these two bets.

The opening will be at midnight in my timezone, and I'm excited to watch this wonderful event as it only happens once every four years.

For the games tomorrow, I think a parlay is more rewarding since I really trust those two teams you picked to win and cover, despite the high spread. Brazil's strength is their inside offense, but I doubt they'll be able to do that against Gobert and Wemby. I think that's a bad match-up, and France might win by more than 30 points.

It's a risky bet, but if you are confident with it, go ahead and bet on that parlay.

I see that Brazil has some weaknesses as they struggled to beat the Philippines during the Olympic qualifiers. If their outside shots aren't going to fall, the game will be over because this team cannot make their points in the paint with those two NBA players ensuring the defense will be tight.

Here is the final roster of Team France.

It is organized at home for France. Therefore I would like to see some good performances from them. It would be a disappointment if they don't even make it to the final round.  Sad

Seeing Wembanyama in the roster makes me satisfied. I believe he deserves to be a part of his national team already. He has a great future ahead.  Smiley  I expect him to play a really important role in team success here.

Canada are favoured more than them in this tournament of course. But I think in case of a matchup between these two, France would advance. However USA will be waiting there like a level end boss.

If I'm not mistaken, Germany is rank number 2 in the world as they are the FIBA champion and their team are intact with Schröder leading the team. But this is a totally different competition though, I mean every country is sending their best players here, including Japan.

Not much of a superstar in the Japan roster though, so it will be tough for them. But it might be good to bet on the underdog in this kind of competition. This players are playing under their flag so there is pride in every game and even if they are the underdog, it will still bring the best out of them.

Trust me, Japan has NO chance today against our German team. I don't want to sound cocky but the Japanese team is much worse in every regard.
They are small, unexperienced, not physical enough and so on.
We played them a week ago in a test match and Germany dominated them in every regard, leading by 30 at some point and winning by 25 or something. A win by at least 10 points is what I expect but it should be more tbh.

Also, we know we must beat Japan to have a chance to advance. Brazil is of course not that hard but on a good day they can be dangerous. The France game is hopefully a close one but I think they will win the group.

According to this ranking https://www.fiba.basketball/rankingmen, they are rank at number 3 as they ranked Spain in the 2nd place next to USA. Forget that ranking, Germany is still a good tem as they have already proven it during the FIBA world cup, but this team USA that will be playing in the Olympics are probably the best in the USA, so I don't know if they can do it again win the championship.

The only Asian team in the Olympics, that showed Asians really struggle in a big competition. Japan though they also have an NBA player but it's not enough for them to compete against a strong teams which are taller and more physical in the game. However, if they'll surprise us, then i guess I gotta believe myself that Asian team also are good in the biggest competition like the Olympics.

Australia beat Spain in the first game of the basketball Olympics.

Final score: 92-80. I lost my bet on this game by betting live. I had Spain winning by 1-5 and 6-10, but they couldn't come back from their deficit in the first half. I think Spain is no longer the same team as before; the loss of the Gasol brothers was really huge for them. I only saw an old familiar player, Rudy Fernandez, but he is getting older already.

For Team Australia, Patty Mills really played well.

Congratulations to Australian Boomers.

I only saw an old familiar player, Rudy Fernandez, but he is getting older already.
Speaking of Rudy Fernandez, I think he's the only one that has got a record for playing in Olympic basketball games 6 straight Olympics in a row. I can still remember when Ricky Rubio was on the lineup with him 20 years ago IIRC.

Well, maybe he'd retire after this Olympics.

Spain actually resisted well until a point. But in the last quarter they couldn't keep up anymore. Australia were already the favourite so congrats to them and the people who placed on their win.  Smiley

The first half of Germany v Japan game has also ended. Germany had a 16-point advantage in the 2nd quarter actually but they started trolling. Still they finished it by an 8-point lead which is nice. Most probably Germany will win this game by a much bigger gap. Because as far as I have watched, Japan can't keep a consistent game. Watanabe and Hachimura are doing their best though but I don't think that would keep the team standing.

Yes, I saw they make it close in the 3rd quarter but their last quarter wasn't good. But the outcome is expected since Australia is favored to win.

Japan came back but you can really see the height disparity and Germany are owning them in the paint. So personally I would be bias as I bet on Germany to cover the -19 and I want them to have a strong 2nd half so Japan won't be able to come back anymore. They should win this easily if they'll use their advantage.

Not much of a superstar in the Japan roster though, so it will be tough for them. But it might be good to bet on the underdog in this kind of competition. This players are playing under their flag so there is pride in every game and even if they are the underdog, it will still bring the best out of them.

An asian underdog on olympics is not a good team to bet especially if they are against team with height advantage such Germany that can play more physical and shooting at the same time.

Basketball is Asian worst nightmare on sports because height advantage is always gives a huge boost on team winning percentage. Germany dominated Japan with a clear disadvantage on the height. Even if Japan has a shooting, it’s very hard to do it against a guard that is taller than you.

I bet for some games today.

I did it differently with Serbia and USA but I was kind of regretting as it is 7.70 odds. But did it with most total points. I know Canada is a strong team but I chose Giannis over them and as well as Wemby despite that odd isn't convincing. Well, I'll have fun with most of these games.

It was a 20-point victory for Germany, which was enough for them to cover the spread as they were -19 before the game. Either team could have covered the spread as Japan was actually playing within range, but the last 3-point score by Germany made it happen. In terms of height, it's really a big problem for Japan as their point guard is too small and not as strong or physical as Dennis Schröder. Still, it was a good game. At least Japan made it to the Olympics, but we know their limitations already.

The next game will be France vs. Brazil. I think it’s going to be another blowout win, this time by France.

You predicted it right. I thought Germany would only lead by about 9 to 15 points, so my parlay bet lost right away. I didn't know they would be consistent starting from the FIBA World Cup. It's still too early to say who could win the gold medal, but I think Germany can do it.

About South Sudan vs Puerto Rico, I think whoever loses here will be automatically eliminated in the group stage. It's unlikely that Puerto Rico & South Sudan will win against Serbia and the USA.

Congratulations to Australian Boomers.
This wasn't the line up who had a brawl with the Philippine team?  Grin

I do recognize him, he was consistent with the team in the Olympics. About Rubio, he was the MVP when they won a gold in the FIBA world cup IIRC, but I don't see him anymore so probably he had retired like he retires with the NBA. Last time I check, it was published that he had some mental problem that's why he is not playing anymore.

Ricky Rubio bravely opens up about his mental health struggles and reveals his battle with chronic stress and anxiety: "The player ate the person."

Great game so far for France vs. Brazil. I thought France wouldn't come back anymore, but after being down by 12 points, they finished the first half with a 3-point lead. Victor Wemby is taking over the game already as he brought some energy that has awakened his teammates. Hopefully, he'll continue his aggressiveness in the second half so they can cover the spread, which is -10. They need to win by 8 points in the second half.

The good news is that France seems to have already figured out Brazil’s defense. Wemby struggled in the first quarter but has already found his shot inside, showing a high shooting percentage now. This should continue as he has found his rhythm, unless Brazil will find a way to stop him.

Best game of the day ( in my opinion ) is still to come, with Greece facing a stacked Canada team.
I don't see any reason to not favor Canada by at least 7 points. Other than Giannis there is no match for the firepower the Canadian team can bring to the court.
How does anyone want to defend SGA and Murray at the same time? They will always gets their shots, especially SGA. Greece's defender are more on the older side I think so they will have a tough task to keep up.

The only thing speaking for Greece is veteranship and FIBA rules. Most of the players are used to the slightly different rules compared to the NBA ( Canada has 10 NBA players ) so this might impact the game a bit. Also plenty of players have experience in world cup and Olympic games played while Canada kind of the new kid on the block ( disregarding last year's WC.

So I am expecting a hard played game with plenty of fouls committed by Greece due to the speed disadvantage and at some point I believe Canada will pull away and sail to a good win. Giannis alone can't make the difference for Greece I fear.

Considering that Germany is the last world champion, we would already see that Japan does not have much of a chance. Japan is not a very developed country in terms of basketball, I don't think they will have much of a chance in the Olympics. Germany started this championship well and showed everyone how assertive it is. I wonder what they can do against France or USA Smiley
