South Sudan just proved that's possible to play with USA. They even had 15 points lead at halftime. Later it looked that USA will run away with strong 37 points 3rd quarter. but South Sudan stayed in game until last seconds. On last USA attack Lebron took everything to his hands USA were leading by 1 point with 8 seconds remaining. South Sudan had decent last attack, but wasted their chance to win the game.
SOuth Sudan left me good impression at last World Cup, but didn't expected that they can challenge USA.

I did not see this game but I'm interested now in watching the highlights. I'm just reading the news now about this game and it's pretty surprising that USA only won by 1 point after dominating strong teams with a good ranking in the last tune up games. I've seen south Sudan played during the FIBA olympics and they are really tall, but I didn't expect they'll be able to give team USA a good challenge.

The 3rd quarter was a huge difference for team USA.

Yeah, it was all over the news, Lebron saving the day for the team USA. They really had a rough start while Sudan shoots pretty well that's why they were able to take a good lead early. But USA has other things in mind, they don't want to be upset here. So kudos to them for making that big comeback and still win the game, but as we say, if the other team is shooting good, it's really hard to stop them.

We should commend Sudan as well for playing good D against Steph and not allow him having that kind of looks as the previous games. And so it was Lebron who has to do or take that last shot. Another litmus test for team USA and then passed it again.

It was a very entertaining game, and watching the highlights felt like watching an NBA Finals. However, I think South Sudan was just lucky in that game. Although I didn't check the stats, it looked like they weren't missing their 3-point shots. I only know one player in the lineup, and that was Gabriel. He is really good, and I don't know why he isn't more popular in the NBA.

USA have such an insane dominance in Olympic Games. The competition has been organized 5 times since 2004 and USA won 4 titles (2008, 2012, 2016, 2020).

France brought a good rivalry to USA in 2020 finale though. What do you think, would we see the same finale and rivalry level again?

Just look at the odds... USA have only 1.20 for winning the Olympics. Who would even want to bet on it?    I would rather give France a chance to have some fun. However USA has a really strong roster and it would be really surprising to see their title streak ending.

France and Serbia are very successful countries in basketball. These are the first countries that come to our mind when we talk about European basketball. I enjoy watching the matches of these teams. Lithuania and Turkey used to be the same, basketball is played very well in these countries, but the performance of these countries has decreased in recent years.
Is there a European team that can stand against America? I don't think it will happen this year. Players in America have higher motivation than ever before, they are preparing well for the tournament

Even if we say, Team USA said they haven't put their best foot forward on that exhibition match, it showed that South Sudan is a team to be reckoned with. Now, that South Sudan has its boost of their confidence, surely, they will do their best once they are in the actual game. So other teams should look over their shoulder because South Sudan may be the wild card in this game.

No doubt, they have such outstanding performance on this friendly match. A player, head coach and asst coach have their corresponding NBA stints. Whereas, other players are in the international leagues. They have their share of great trainings outside their country. And if they work together on this, I believe, they do really have the chance to get to the finals round.

I'm Greece recently there was a bit of controversy due to Thomas Walkup being in the team. He's an NBAer but for some reason he will be playing with Greece in the national team... Well, that's because he's playing for a Greek basketball team, Olympiakos, and only around a year and a half after his arrival in Greece he received a honorary naturalization by the Greek government directly. 

This is a very big contradiction given that the antentokoumbros could not receive their papers for their whole life even though they were born in Greece, just because their parents were poor immigrants. They're now top basketball players ofc and all their papers are sorted, but very big contradiction all these people are on the same team now.

This happens for most countries, in our own opinion, there's discrimination and if you don't have any good backup helping you sort papers just to be in a good competition, you'll be replaced by someone else. Greece is a strong country and we've seen how Giannis became emotional after qualifying for the Olympics.

I think the other most recent issue was with Eric Gordon of Bahamas and it was so close that Klay Thompson has also shown some interest playing for their national team but I guess time was the only problem there. But given that his interest is into it, for sure that Bahamas' government will give a go signal and will sort everything. There's this issue with FIBA and naturalization/localization of players and there's a process about being given passport before these athletes become 16 to be considered as local, otherwise they have to be naturalized.

Luck or not luck, it doesn't matters. This shows that you can catch USA if they have bad day or didn't looked at opponent seriously. And offcourse, without good 3-pointer % it would be almost impossible to beat USA.

Of course, every team in the Olympics has a chance of upsetting team USA. Though they are dominant but look what South Sudan did to them, they almost loss although it's just an exhibition fights. Also, I believe most of the teams now are focus in outside shooting a lot, South Sudan that time just got a very good shooting night, we can't deny that.

In other game Australia beat France 83:82, though, nobody is looking seriously at Australia.

That was a good game, 2 of my favorite teams in the olympics, good thing Australia still won despite France having a twin tower.

This one is not surprising at all as Asian team aren't really excelling in the Olympics. In fact, I'm still surprise they only loss by 19.

The roster they bring here every time is a proof for that. USA are once again a favourite to win the tournament by far.    They played 5 friendlies and won all of them including South Sudan and Serbia which are in the same group with them as well. I think that game against South Sudan was a one-time thing. I expect USA to get a more different result this time.

By the way I think Group A looks like a more challenging one than the others.

I also didn't expect that the game between South Sudan and the USA will be that close, same as with Australia. I don't want to conclude though that what happened in these friendly games will also happen with the actual Olympics, but based on what we've seen, I guess we can say that even the dominating USA team can still lose at any game.

Group A is an interesting group, and it makes more interesting because of how Australia is playing right now. They just defeated Wemby, Gobert and France, giving them their 6th straight loss in the friendly games. Despite of that though, Wemby don't see it as a concerning one because they will be ready when the Olympics starts based on one interview. Nevertheless, Group A surely is an interesting group because it also has Giannis and Greece and SGA and Canada. I guess we can also say that Group C is an interesting one as well just because of how South Sudan played with the USA team.

I agree.  In these warm up games they are trying different rotations and getting used to playing together.  The thing with the US is its always a different lineup where other national teams have much more continuity.  The game against south Sudan should be much different.  Especially since nba players are good at adjusting.  Can't wait for this to finally kick off.

I agree.  In these warm up games they are trying different rotations and getting used to playing together.  The thing with the US is its always a different lineup where other national teams have much more continuity.  The game against south Sudan should be much different.  Especially since nba players are good at adjusting.  Can't wait for this to finally kick off.

And this is the very reason why we got this exhibition matches in the first place, to really gauge the team themselves specially USA team because they doesn't have the continuity to least say a team for Australia or South Sudan who could have been playing for so long. And guess what, these two teams have given the USA a run for their money in this exhibition games if not for Lebron saving the day for the USA team against Sudan. So it really benefited the USA team in this kind of exhibition matches, as they can try different combinations and see what works and whats not specially in closing games. But I'm seeing Curry and Lebron to really the only players that will need to finished the game for the USA team specially if close games.

Well I guess as a basketball fan, we're all looking at the American team to win the gold as in this exhibition matches, they've go without a losses although there are some games that they're tested by they still win. And it just shows that they are really on track to win that gold and defend their supremacy in terms of basketball.

That time other nation are really putting a lot of effort to beat the United States and that's why in 2008, then send a great team with Kobe silencing their critics. Here it will be Germany who they beat could be their biggest rival as they are the defending FiBA mens champion. But then we have the home team in Gobert and Wemby. Canada which also consists of NBA players. But still though, the Americans are going to be the huge favorite here with Lebron as like the Kobe or Jordan in the past Olympics.

IIRC correctly, Argentina loss to the Dominican Republic and they weren't even able to qualify on the last FIBA world cup, so we can't expect that team anymore, they need to improve if they want to be in this big competition.

And we should give credit to Luol Deng for really turning South Sudan into a powerful basketball team. He was really instrumental as he was the lead architect of their basketball program. And who wouldn't be a perfect fit for that job that Deng himself, a former NBA player and so he has the experiment to do that and now they put everyone in notice after they almost upset the USA team in the exhibition matches. So after this game, for sure we will watch and who knows, if they are a the underdog, if might be good to put some money on them.

Another record has been set as well but a South Sudanese player in Carlik Jones, as he tallied 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists against the USA team. And no player has done such feat against the powerhouse USA team in the past.

Yes, you can check at Stake.com, but as I mentioned the bet limit has already been reached, so you can't place any amount. I first tried looking at shuffle.com, but I couldn't find Olympic basketball outright for this kind of market.

I think it's safe to bet on the USA because I'm sure they can win at least bronze, but the odds are not worth it at 1.03 the last time I checked.

But so far the odds that you already put your bet is already big and we really don't know if there will be a big surprised in this Olympics as we have seen South Sudan really improving their games. So good bet mate, maybe others will have to look at South Sudan as well. Another team that I would like to bet is Australia, not that big odds as compare to South Sudan. But a semifinal is 17.00, Runner up at 66.00 and Winner at 151.00. So there's a lot of interesting odds in this Olympics and hopefully some of us will find time to look at the underdogs for a good return.
