Of course working on holidays is very boring. Especially if for example on big holidays such as Eid al-Fitr or Christmas. However, in reality, quite a lot of companies do not provide holidays on major holidays such as Christmas for certain reasons. In return, employees are given more money while working, but I still don't think it's worth it. Because employees will definitely feel sad even though they get more money, because they cannot gather with their families. So maybe it would be more appropriate if the company could provide rest time on important days such as Eid al-Fitr or Christmas. Because of course employees also have the right to receive this.

Perhaps the companies that often do not close their workplaces at Christmas or other major holidays are farms, restaurants and hospitals. Because on a farm, the livestock definitely need to be fed, so if for example all the employees are on holiday, of course there will be no one to feed the livestock. Likewise with restaurants, on big holidays or holidays there are usually more visitors, which is why restaurants still open their restaurants on big days such as Eid al-Fitr or Christmas. Then for hospitals, this may be a little natural, because hospitals will never close. Because this is related to public health. So, to overcome this, I think the method you convey is probably right. Because hiring non-Christians at Christmas and hiring Christians at Eid might be the right thing to do. Because I think there is no other better way.

It’s not possible for everybody to be off work during traditional holiday periods. Society needs to function, there has to be emergency services available 24/7. Emergency plumbers can be required too, emergency gas engineers. Obviously factory & office workers can be given time off over holiday periods but it just isn’t possible for everybody to be on holiday.

I don't see anything wrong in this because after all, when an agreement has been made, especially for some conditions such as in the delivery of groceries and which are required to operate every day, it can still be done.

On the other hand, in my country it is still like this even though there is now a recommendation of 5 working days and 2 days off but in the end this is also dealt with the shift system so that regardless of the day off or not when there is already a work contract and there is more pay (on certain days) then it can still be considered a reasonable thing.

Indeed, this may sound like exploitation to some people, but in the end, as long as there is an MOU from the start or there has been an emphasis on the contract from the start, something like this can still be considered legitimate because I have always felt the same way. In fact, on several occasions I am quite happy to work on holidays because apart from getting extra pay, I also get several facilities that are actually more profitable than ordinary days when I work.

Your not entirely wrong in your line of thought but, it’s only right that you understand that it can’t be the same in every sector and in business, hours lost is lost to gains or profit. Business doesn’t recognize holidays and in fact, you need certain sectors to be fully or partly functional for the holidays to even be effective.

At the moment, Christians are preparing for their Christmas break and eventually a new year celebration. You would need the gift shops and even those getting to craft the various Christmas trees to be in business in order to feel the season. Business just kicked in for these guys.
Another sector to look at is the medical sector, you wouldn’t expect medical staff to go about the holidays when they’ve got patients.
Also, the banking sector and even the gas stations, you need those persons working and people do man these stations. It’s just business and life.

This depends on the nature of your job and the type of industry that you are in. If you're into service industry, hotel, F & B so expect that during the interviews, the HR or interviewer have already told you that you should be able to work during the holidays and upon acceptance, you have to expect for that as a real thing. It's fair for people that are into those industries that they are required to work during the holidays but it's not fair if they are not well compensated with that. So, depending on the labor codes for each country then for sure there are some incentives with that.

If someone wants to earn more money from his job, he has to work overtime. There should be no coercion but some companies seems to force this on their employees and it is actually prohibited by the government if there is an element of coercion.

It is not mandatory for the employee to work during holidays because that is one of the rights for employee. The company cannot force their employee working during holidays and must prioritize their holidays. Perhaps that can affects business revenue but that will not be a problem for the company. They must give attention to their employees so they can satisfy works on that company. They can be loyal to the company and will work the best.

Nowadays people give more importance to money and do not care about their physical health.  As you may have noticed, laborers and factory workers work overtime even after eight hours of duty, but neglect their physical exhaustion and health.  It is important to think that money is a necessity, but health comes first.  Due to over work and less rest people are prone to various physical ailments, it is important for every human being to maintain a balance between their health and work.  Earning money is important but what is the use of this money if there is no health.  One day off a week is so you can rest your body

Yep, this is true on which people do usually neglect out their health just for the sake of making money on which this should really be that needed up to be balance because if you do put up too much focus when it comes on making money without minding up your body on putting extreme effort and having no time to rest then better not to do it on severe manner because when time comes that if your body will really be ending up on becoming sick because of that, then all of those money that you had earned will really be just that spent to hospitalization on which this isnt really something that will be that worth because bills might be even more higher on what you do earn in the past. Therefore, you should really be taking care of your body while you are doing your job but in a controlled manner. Dont exert too much but if you dont have no choice but needs up to duty or work because of compulsory then its up to you whether you would really be lasting up with that job or not. Be sure that you wont really be that tolerating yourself on having that hard work on spending up time too much with your work or having tons of overtime just because you are really that eager on making even more money. Everything which is really that excessive will really be always bad and it will really be impossible that you cant be able to determine it out.

In our time, more and more people work while they are on holiday, due to the increasing demands of the market but I find that wrong. Holidays/vacations are made for a reason and that is to rest your body and soul and return to your job as fresh as possible. Working 24/7/365 makes you a machine, not a human. But even machines need a break, so...

I know many countries that is giving their citizens holiday to celebrate a particular festival season, it helps some employees to use that opportunity to be around for their family to enjoy their presence before the holiday will be over because that is the period of resting and enjoyment, when you have the money to spend during holiday. There are some employees that prefer to work during the holiday not to spend money during the festival season, because there are a lot of shows that will be coming up during the festival celebration, you will like to take your family and friends to go and watch which it may  require big money.

To me, I don't think I will work during holiday period no matter the situation I find myself in the country, because that is the season of resting to  have more strength to handle the work very well without any health challenge.

I think nobody works on someone 24/7/365, that perhaps is illegal, but if someone is his own boss, than I saw people who are working all the time.

I dont have issues with working during holidays. I think everyone in my family understands that if I have to work on a holiday, then I am doing not just for fun or to avoid them, but to earn money. I think it is very clear, want money = work, dont want money = dont work. If someone think it is unfair to work during holidays an your boss forces you to work, find different job. A lot of people work during holiday, and then they rest while other works.

I blame some employees for this but can't blame all because we first need to consider the nature of the job in question. You can't expect those in the security field to have a holiday when it's their turn to be active and the same goes for those who are in the medical line or are selling necessities that will even make some holidays colourful for people. Some people work in hotels and hospitality business, while some celebration periods are the times some businesses make the most of their income by giving people fun etc. They can't afford to close their shops, everywhere will be boring. However, they should not be selfish, if they can deny their employees that time, they should make it count monetarily.

Companies are not required to force their employees to work during the time they have to spend with their family and relatives since they are not slaves. It does not work that way when Christians are celebrating Christmas while Muslims and other religions must work. However, that is not how I have seen companies doing their workers in my place because when it comes time for the holiday, they will allow all the workers a chance to go and relax, whether you are Muslim or Christian, you are free to spend the holidays away of work unless you don't want to.

You should be grateful if you don't see companies forcing the employees to work during holidays.

You can try to go out during holidays and find the companies that still open, ask the employees whether they're want to work during holidays or not. Most of them are forced, hence they're work during holidays.

People who said they choose to work during holidays because inflation has ruined everything, how can be it's not "slave", high inflation and low wage make people forced to be slave.

I work in shifts 12/24, 12/48. There are no weekends, holidays, non-working days, New Year's... when the shift falls, then I have to work, or I have to change the shift with someone. I have been working like this for so long that I don't know if I could ever work "normal" hours again and work every day. This way I have a lot of days off, when I work on some holidays I get paid more, and the older I get, the more I prefer to avoid some family gatherings so this suits me. So I am ok with my working hours, I wouldn't change anything...

It seems that by doing "odd" jobs and working unusual hours and days for others, we become so accustomed to them that we can't work different, more common hours.

If you want to have absolute control of your work hours, then you would have to consider self employment. Having your own business gives you the time to structure your work schedule the way you want it. But if you are employed by an organization, don't expect to enjoy work free days during special occasions or official holidays. Even if it was included on your contract of employment that you are entitled to it, the organization might decide to change it or not honour such agreement. There are high rate of unemployment, many people will be willing to replace you if you lose your job because of the schedule.

Many employers can't do that because they need to be able to run the business, or tell clients they will be unable to. For instance, to run a restaurant you need a certain number of employees and you have to be able to tell how many of them will come to work on a certain day because people make reservations. This means you can't tell your employees to come if they want, you have to know weeks ahead how many of them will choose to work on that day, so they'll rather make you come in and I don't blame them. If you don't like it you can always choose a different line of work.

I would not expect people who work in services like hotels, restaurants or gas stations not to work during holidays.

I believe this depends on the job. I understand why many would say that they are against it, that is not really that complicated and I can see why that would be a problem. However, the job itself matters a bit more than what we feel about it as well. Like for example people at hospitals have to keep working, you can't just close down a hospital and go home like it's some shop, so while there are less people working, it still has to have some people in there.

Secondly, hotels for example, or oil refineries or other places where if there isn't someone 7/24 then it is a problem, all of those matter and exists. I mean not as active as any other day because on holidays less people are working, but some places do require people to work at all times.

This is the correct answer, not every business can have holidays, it just doesn't work that way. You can take turns though, some would be off some day, and another would be off that way. The worst is when the company gets involved and makes a decision for the workers, just leave the workers alone and they can arrange it better themselves, they will take some and they will give some and they will get it working together.

I had a friend who loved working during Christmas and new years, would be getting paid more than usual for the shift, and he didn't had any family to go back to, he wasn't married, so he is just a single dude, we all loved him for it and we all took big vacations thanks to him, and he earned more money that way. Just let the workers decide and I am sure there won't be any big issues at all, it is going to be an ok period and shouldn't really be that much of an issue at all, we can make this work one way or another without an issue.
