I have seen many people get out of addiction without even going through any therapy, just a change of mindset and approach and they are out of that addiction. That's something i can't answer from my own but only based on google's search result and article's suggestions, most of these meds to treat for "compulsive behaviors", "reduces cravings and the pleasure associated with gambling", "treat underlying depression or anxiety", "mood stabilizers"  these mentioned illness can be seen on any gambling addict behaviour so such meds are also used to treat such illness. It's really hard to play for fun though, I mean losing money is not that fun unless you have a lot of money to burn. I agree with you, I think there is no medicine that can eliminate gambling addiction, maybe if they run out of money that's when they can stop gambling but the consequences can be psychologically disturbed.
