How about you guys? Do you consider yourself a gambler or a player?
Aren't people who are engage in gambling activities called gamblers?

If you are asking whether a gambler is playing for fun or with goal in mind, I believe I fall on playing for fun category.
Actually, all games are just games, until it involves money or any valuable currency, which turns into gambling activities or games.

Technically, all gamblers are players who just wanted to earn while playing games. However, based on how OP described it, players are more strategical and logical while gamblers are more inclined towards fun and impulsive gaming. And I’m more of the later part as I mostly play for fun with a thought of maybe winning. I tried being logical and make a lot of strategy however none works and it’s mostly luck that contributes to these games whether it’s cards, RNG, or even sports. The only thing that maybe works is to know when to logically stop or continue gambling if either your losing or winning.

I see no difference between this two things you mentioned here, gambler is still a player the only different is the mindset. There are some people who have been in this gambling space for decades yet  you can't see them misbehaving while gambling, and also there are set of people that started gambling for months and now they're fighting addiction and that is due to the mindset they where having, and lack of emotional control can also contribute to that. But in all I think the both of them still fall in one category just like i said that our mindset is what makes it to look a little bit different.

Based on your definition, aside from play for fun, I could be both, sometimes I’m good at following my strategy, but other times my emotions take over. The next day, I try to stay calm, review what I did wrong yesterday, and avoid making the same mistakes, especially getting carried away. Well, it kind of works. If not, I take a break the next day and try again after that. It really helps me stop myself from getting carried away. And again, I reflect on what I did wrong and try to have more patience.

I feel the same. To me there's no difference between a gambler and a player. Saying that a player is a gambler who wants to be better or treats this more seriously is pretty weird.
Imagine that you have a 10 year old playing cards with friends at school with no money involved, just for fun. Is he a player or a gambler? He must be a gambler because he does it casually, but then, he isn't gambling because gambling involves money, so he should call himself a player, right? Makes no sense!

That said, if we follow OP's definition, I guess I'm a gambler. I play for fun, to relax. I don't try to be better, I don't claim to have skills. I also don't do it long enough or often enough to be considered a player, by his terms.

Personally, I like to see myself as a player not just throwing bets for fun but with discipline and a plan. Still, I admit there are times I get caught up in the excitement

How about you guys? Do you consider yourself a gambler or a player?

Regardless of how you play it, with or without skills and risk management, you are a gambler, there is no any other name to sugarcoat it. A player is a player, and a gambler is a gambler; if you bet with money, you are expecting to win money in the name of profit, it simply means that you gamble for some return; if this is true, what is how the difference between a person that bet with skills, risk management, and maybe with more knowledge with the same aim of winning his/her bet with a person that just pick games randomly and still get a win? Are they not all gamblers? They are all gamblers because they put money with the expectation of making more money from the money they staked.

In terms of what you're describing, I'm a little confused about what I'm doing right now because I feel like I can use both definitions in different situations.

I sometimes gamble just for fun and leisure even though there is an expectation of a win but when it doesn't match what I feel during the game I don't have a problem with it and usually I choose casino games especially slots that I focus on playing.
In other situations I also always make this a situation where my skills take a big role especially when in sports betting.

So looking at it this way I seem to be able to be in both but regardless of what you call it we are still playing in the same groove where we are still gambling.

Both gamble, both take risks but the mindset is different.
For me a gambler plays for fun or thrill, sometimes just to pass the time. Nothing wrong with that but emotions usually take over, chasing losses, betting on impulse, or just playing for the rush.

A player on the other hand treats gambling like a skill game.
They aim to win study the odds improve their strategy, manage their bankroll and learn from every result.

Personally, I like to see myself as a player not just throwing bets for fun but with discipline and a plan. Still, I admit there are times I get caught up in the excitement

These are interesting definitions that you use here. I am not sure I fully agree with them but that is not a big issue. Like I don't see how you could be a player on games that are entirely dependent on luck. Sure you can make some adjustments and think that they have a big impact but if they don't really have an impact does it matter?

Personally I would consider myself a mix of both, perhaps slightly more leaning on the side of a gambler. For me bankroll management is a must and I carefully look at my results, that is very interesting data and maybe I find patterns in my own behavior like days on which I bet more recklessly or lose more. On the other hand my primary aim here is to have some fun, not to earn profit. I do not like to spend too much time on looking for strategies and trying to beat the system. I consider that a waste of time if your aim is to entertain yourself.

Those who gamble seriously will consider themselves players, not just gamblers. They were skilled gamblers trying to defeat the casino, but guess what? These people will have a higher chance of losing control of themselves and falling into addiction. They soon lost control of their bankroll management as well.

Well, I don't think I belong to that group. I was just a casual gambler. Of course, I analyze every bet I make, put in some effort, and control the bankroll. But I still gamble just for fun. There is no chasing of losses, nor am I heavily attached to it.

The question 'Am I really a gambler or a player' can be used to find out what stage a gambler is in. If a gambler is addicted to extreme levels, he forgets his self-control. He remains a gambler as long as he keeps his conscience and intelligence in check and limits his losses to the amount of risk he can take. Because a gambler plays with planning, analysis, strategy and discipline and uses every experience in real life. On the other hand, a gambler plays for luck, thrill and emotion. He has little planning or strategy. He loses out on emotion and becomes desperate for revenge.

The thing is all gamblers are players but not all players are gambler.  So if you are a gambler you are automatically called a player but if you are a player, you need to engage to gambling to be called a gambler.

@OP's definition is his own understanding of gambler who play for fun disregarding their expenses and winning while the other one play strategically to win money.  Regardless of the identification I believe they are both called gambler and players.  We can look how the casino  call all their users/gambler on their platform, and we can find that  the term player is directed to everyone regardless of how they gamble.

I've never gambled, so I don't really know what that feels like in practice, but I found the way you separated the player from the gambler quite interesting. You can really see that the difference is much more in the mindset than in the act of gambling itself. I think that, even for those who have never gambled, it makes sense to think about this issue of control and discipline, because it can be applied to many areas of life as well.

I never knew that there is a clear distinction between a gambler and a player, I have always used these two interchangeably. Left for me, there is really no difference, it is just us trying to put a distinction where there should be none. I will still respond to the post anyway.

Well, I will say I am more a gambler. I enjoy the thrill and suspense that comes with gambling. I am passionate about analysing games, sports to be precise and I do this with self control so I do not get too excited and get carried away.

I don’t know how you can make a difference out of these words. While gambling might be direct and straight to the point on what it entails, the word “player” relies on its application to make more sense of meaning.
Every gambler can be regarded as a player but not every player can be regarded as a gambler. It’s just simply application, there isn’t any big deal about that to make a huge difference out of.

In essence, gamble and be sure to have fun of it while, keeping hope on some luck to find you.

To be honest this is my first time of noting the difference between a gambler and a player and I'm excited to learn about it, left for me I'm a mixed of both but more of a player cause I love to be very strategic with my selection of games when betting, i analyze it by studying difference teams strength and weaknesses before making my predictions but there are times I just bet for the fun of it without showing much concern whether I win or not.

Bearing knowledge of this distinction between player and gambler for the first and it's strange though but makes sense in way as you have illustrated.Ro your question, I consider myself to be bothered, yes that's me on both sides, I gamble to enjoy the game as much as I would wish to earn some rewards by winning, but ultimately, I make sure to maintain a responsible performance with my funds by making calculated predictions and not spending much to be penniless.

Well, in practice, it makes no sense. There isn't actually such a definition, but from my understanding, the OP is simply trying to differentiate those who are gambling simply for fun, with those who are taking it into the next level, set goals and try to improve their overall performance.

Personally, I'm a leisure gambler so I can't call myself a player by any means. My main activity is sports betting, on the weekends, and I do ot only for my own entertainment. Of course, I'm interested in making money, but it's not my main priority.

Personally, I like to see myself as a player not just throwing bets for fun but with discipline and a plan. Still, I admit there are times I get caught up in the excitement

How about you guys? Do you consider yourself a gambler or a player?

I remain a gambler not player cos I hate to be overstressed with the issue of trying to make money from gambling and become a total loser in the bit of chasing my loss or wins, therefore I gamble for fun and nothing more.

It all depends on which gambling games you choose. If these are gambling games that are entirely based on luck, then whatever your skills are, they won't be enough to win. So if you want to be a player, then choose poker or sports betting for yourself.

So, by definition, I'm a gambler because I play for fun. Gamblers, on the other hand, do it to make money and are quite serious. I don't approach gambling with that seriousness; I'm content with just having a good time. I don't really care about whether I win or lose. I do, but not that much. I realize that whether I plan to win or not, it's entirely based on luck, so I don't want to think too much about it.

Of course, this can vary depending on the games I play.

I am unaware of the relevance of this terminological distinction, or even if it is pertinent to delve into this introspective reflection. The fundamental point lies in the results and performance; the self-imposed nomenclature lacks significance.

However, from a purely grammatical or widely accepted usage perspective, the term "Gambler" could be perceived as pejorative in the long run; perhaps because it carries a derogatory connotation. Despite this, in my regional context, for example, both that term and 'player' are synonymous.

I estimate that the most useful classification is one based on the level of involvement, such as recreational player, Fish (casual player), or professional player, among others.
