Exactly the reason why it usually takes long for one to get out of it is because one don’t usually take notice of the gradual process the addiction takes to get to the point that they will need help to stop. we have 24 hours, mostly a worker takes 8 hours at work, 8 hours for sleeping, so gambler still have 8 hours for free, with all of this time left, gambler can gamble again. do you think it really works to solve the addiction? I don't think so, because the time after office and before sleep, can be gambling time again for addicted gambler. effective way only stop money flow for gambling, only that way can solve. without money, no more gamble. Force or threat rarely do work for person that is already addiction..  Most times it will just make dem close more.
First thing is trust..  If someone feel you want to judge them or control them, they will hide everything..  But if someone see’s you genuinely care, they will open up.. it is from there the help will start..

Making them more busy with real activities makes sense and should be able to make them tired so when they are already active they don't have space or time to play, so when they finish their activities and because they are tired the choice they make is to rest, because sometimes there are people who are tired of doing activities or working and when they get home they still take the time to gamble.

One thing is as long as he has been addicted, his father shouldn't use an aggressive approach because addiction doesn't stops once .. it takes time and conscious effort.
