For me the best way to help gambling addicts is to let them be, it looks strange doesn't it? haha but this is real, it means let them experience the extraordinary pain of the downturn that comes from excessive gambling, the reason why I say this is because often gamblers who are already addicted are very difficult to tell or give advice, they even think that I criticize and interfere too much with their affairs even though my advice is for their good too.
So in the end it's better to let them be, helping doesn't always have to be with action because addicted gamblers will only change when they realize it themselves.
Although letting the gambling addict stay is the biggest help, I think the most important role in helping the gambling addict get out of gambling addiction is to be friendly with them and always talk to the gambling addict in a cheerful manner and if he is interested in religious activities, if necessary, take him to religious places regularly. If you can always stick with a gambling addict and bring him out of the world of gambling and follow various ways to make him forget about gambling, then I think it will help a gambling addict a lot to get out of gambling addiction. You're right. Getting a gambler involved in other activities is a good way to gradually wean them off gambling. Perhaps this is a good way to finally try the method I outlined in my previous post, which involves letting them experience the negative effects of gambling. But if I hadn't tried the method you outlined, I'd be fed up with them saying I was too intrusive, and that's why I'd rather let it go.

The most dangerous part of it, if you like is when you are addicted, it becomes extremely difficult for you to come back to normalcy again and that’s why it is a very good step for us not to get tired of advising and sensitizing ourselves here since we have the opportunity of this forum not to get too attached to gambling and gamble responsibly.
If it's like everything else in life , what I can say is that after Experiencing something like addiction, returning to the normal world makes you more susceptible , that any word can hurt you, can make you feel bad, return to the toxicity of some people you don't understand , you have to be very strong , if you go and enter a casino, well, you Simply have to have an Enormous amount of Willpower.

An elderly man was asked in front of me if his son, who is always gambling somehow got addicted to gambling, and they tried to talk him out of it, but all to no avail, what method he thinks he can use that will be very effective, and he said he will use his military influence to get his own son arrested and locked up for at least 2 years if he stays without any means of gambling his brain will adjust by itself.
Do you guys think such method will be effective or cause more harm to the person itself.
That is incredibly extreme to take those kind of actions to lock your son up. I mean this man must have tried everything. This is why most parents want to keep their children away from gambling. The best way to prevent something like this is to raise them up right with lots of love and rooted in faith. Teaching them that gambling isn't a game, its real life and it can ruin your life if you let it. I agree, what will happen if you send an extremely addicted person to prison? Instead of helping them overcome their addiction, this person will suffer even greater trauma. I don't think solving problems this way is right at all. You'll be gambling with a gambler's life. That's definitely not helping.

I wish there was someone here who was once addicted to gambling and recovered. It would be useful to hear methods he has used to recover. I dont think that anyone here ever contacted with really addicted gambler, or contacted for a long period, to be able to tell what can really be helpful. If we havent faced the problem, then how can we suggest something that might help to solve it. It is really hard to tell what is going to help, when sometimes it is harder to spot who is really addicted.
What if there is a person and till now the person has refused to admit that he is addicted to gambling? we have many of them that have been gambling for years and not for one day they have accepted to be addicted to gambling. There was one guy that recently opened a thread here in this board that says he has been gambling for the past 10 years, he had been trying to get back the money he has wasted in gambling and has not been profitable since then, I mean why not quit since the beginning. If there is a repentant gambling addicted person, I'm not sure that person will want to be gambling again because tell me, what's the essence of gambling when you are addicted, somehow you got lucky and exonerated from it and then you went back and think that you are not gong to be addicted to it again. What kind of magic is that? It's like quiting drinking and then you went back and say you want to have some and drink moderately. Then it turns the best way to help addicted gambler is to make him admit that he is addicted. Because without that, there will be no result from helping him and it will no use even starting. If addicted dont see himself that there is a problem, nothing can help him. Imo that must be most complicated task to do, to convince a person that he require help, addition to finding such person, because just by the look, you cant identify who is addicted, who gamble for fun, and who does not gamble at all.

I agree with you. Most of the time, an addicted gambler does not admit that he is addicted. If they could admit their mistakes at the right time, the amount of their losses could be reduced to a great extent. As a result of gambling losses, they become reckless and gamble more. They continue to gamble as long as they have available funds. An addicted person cannot easily identify his mistakes and even do not realize that he is addicted until the funds he has are depleted. They do not want to take advice from others before they lose a lot of funds. Once the mindset of taking advice from others is formed, it will stop him from gambling.

While this is a very good thing to do, sometimes their response can make us reluctant to help them, unless they directly ask us to help them overcome their gambling addiction.
When they ask for our help, it means they already realize what they're doing is wrong, and that can make it easier for us to help them. When we take the initiative without them asking, some respond well, while others respond unfavorably. Therefore, they must also be open to our help to help them overcome their gambling addiction.
It's difficult when someone refuses help. It's very difficult to be addicted and accept that you have that problem. If an addict reacts badly, there's simply not much you can do. It's a shame because that person's life is starting to turn into a nightmare. It's not good to be addicted Not just anyone approaches an addict to offer advice You can't mistreat someone who's trying to help. If it happens, there's no other option but to leave them alone. You're right, not just anyone can give advice to a reticent addict. Only certain people can approach them and offer advice, perhaps not even their family, but rather their close friends. However, close friends are usually reluctant to offer advice to stubborn people. This becomes especially difficult when an addict is also highly emotional. I've seen people get into arguments and even nearly come to blows just because a friend gave them advice. Though, logically, the advice was perfectly good for them, that's how they responded.

Yes, if the addicted person repents on his own and seeks help to get rid of the addiction, then he can gradually get rid of the bad habit, but in reality, it is much more difficult or challenging to get out of gambling addiction. It is true that the addicted person does not realize that gambling has turned into addiction in his life. If the gambler could have realized in advance that gambling was turning into addiction in his life, then he would have taken awareness in advance, so that gambling does not turn into addiction in his life. Gambling addiction does not manifest quickly, that is why gambler does not realize that gambling has turned into addiction in his life, and when he realizes, it becomes very difficult to get out of it. However, it is possible to get out of addiction through one's own willpower.

This is what I had been proposing to one of my childhood friends, who turned out to be a gambling addict. I know he has lots of hobbies, and one of them is playing the guitar. I didn't tell him directly that he was already succumbing to gambling. I just hinted to him that he should play the guitar again because I miss hearing his strums and his songs. Well, it didn't work yet. I don't really have any update on whether he already changed, but I do wish that he heard and done what I recommended. IMO, it's easier to forget about gambling when we have other things that we do. Time will be consumed fast, especially if we love what we are doing.

Advises would be totally useless if you wont be listening it out and thats why it would be just that depending on you in the end of the day. Once you do see someone getting addicted then they would likely wont be listening out others opinion because the primary thing that have on their mind is that they would be playing all they want and as long they do have the money then there's no way that they would be stopping and thats why its somewhat useless when making up some words into others because eventually they would be able to learn up the reality later on at the time that they would be experiencing unfortunate conditions.

The guitar might not actually be enough to stop the person from still being too focused on gambling, like you said that it is easier to forget about gambling when we have other things that we do, those other things must not just be things that we do during our leisure time, in including our daily jobs or tasks that we earn from. Take me for example, I have a job, so I work from Monday to friday and I also have a business that I'm doing, sometimes when I travel for business tasks, I can stay there for a week or more before I come back and that has been the major activities that distracts me from gambling. In my own opinion, what I think will distract us from gambling is work.

It's good if for example you have tried it but unfortunately you don't see directly whether the method has succeeded in helping your friend or not but of course our hope is that gamblers who are addicted can immediately realize it and change for the better. You are right that someone will find it easier to forget about gambling when they have other activities and this is also evident in myself, previously I managed to get out of the addiction zone one of them in this way, even I almost did not give myself any free time because usually the desire to gamble often arises when we are bored.

Trying to manage our free time productively, which is a successful event, proves the idea that being busy is one of the most important measures to prevent the impulse to do something. You are correct that boredom many times can be a significant stimulus when we do not realise that we have a definite purpose. I believe it was a personal experience that testifies unmistakably about the fact that lifestyle changes can be quite useful during a recovery process. [/quote] I totally agree with you Work and responsibilities can be a great distraction from gambling. When we're focused on our goals and tasks, it's easier to shift our attention away from addictive behaviors. Your business travels, sound like a great way to stay engaged and motivated, but sir my big question is what if an individual is gambling to make more profits, an individual can still get a job which cant even sustain him sir, when we talk about gambling i feeel we should also find out why people gamble in my own opinion sir

Exactly, that's the main factor in order to keep you moving forward, with self-will things can be possible to take place, and with the help of those people who cares for you, with them backing your decision to move away from addiction it can be a big help, though it's going to be a tough road to take but as long as the person really wanted to be help and that will is genuine then it's doable to move yourself away from any kind of addiction. When a person really wants to get out of it with his own true will, it is definitely possible. The most important thing is to have a strong willpower, if you want it very deeply and have a real will, it is possible to get out of anything or achieve anything. The path is not easy, there will be obstacles, but a person who wants to change from within and does not stop trying, can finally keep himself away from any addiction. The mentality of asking for help, the mentality of taking the right professional advice and the sincere desire to change himself, these make everything possible.

We know that a person addicted to gambling is not only a bad habit but also has a huge impact on his mental balance. However, if his father's initiative is to force him to spend two years in prison, his brain will not heal on its own, but it can actually do more harm. Basically, to save him from this situation, he must awaken a kind of will to change from within so that he can get out of gambling. Moreover, he must keep a bank account or money with his family, give him a little money to live on, and socialize more with friends and relatives. In my opinion, if he is given two years in prison, he may stop for a while, but its effects can increase more severely. That is why if a gambler becomes addicted, he must stay with friends and close people and if they lead him in a good direction, he can gradually recover.

It would be great if everyone who is currently addicted had the willpower to overcome that addiction, whatever the addiction may be, so that they can help themselves and allow the intervention of professionals There is nothing more beautiful than seeing a recovered person, who appears totally reformed with more knowledge, with more control in their life; it is one more life that is saved.

There are only two possible reasons why people gamble..that's for then fun( to relief stress) and for the money.. both are valid reasons but at the end the main goal of every gambler is to take risk and hopes that he makes profits at the end. Even if the chances of winning when it comes to gambling is very low, most gamblers still try to stay in the game. Avoiding addiction maybe easy to say than to do. But if one is smart enough to avoid over gambling and control their emotions, over time they would not become victims of irresponsible gambling habits which eventually leads to addiction. The idea is to stay in control..

I agree with you. Gambling addiction is a kind of mental problem. If someone is sent to prison to get rid of it, he will go into a worse mental state. If a child becomes excessively addicted to gambling, then the parents should first be explained how bad this is for him. When the child himself understands that he needs to get rid of his gambling addiction, then he will try on his own and the family should be by his side to provide mental support. If necessary, he can also be taken to a psychiatrist. But it is never possible to force anyone to get rid of any addiction.

Instead of sending them to prison the best place would be were they would never have the opportunity to gamble. In prison, I believe there are so many opportunities for gambling. Such an environment will even worsen there situation. A psychiatrist, should be for people that are mentally deranged and not for people with addiction problems.
