Ofcourse, money can drive people to do what they hate. This actually means money is god to them or what they obey , as it makes them do its desires.
Unfortunately, money does not understand them better than the actual GOD (their CREATOR) so it would move them to do the wrong things or things they aren't designed for.
 Ofcourse, they could do their "best", but that does not mean their best properly solves the issue they are paid to solve. And there is no way they could do the right things or do things better than those designed for such roles. It's like paying a horse to plough a field and a cow to speedily transport you to another country. The horse or cow would likely not enjoy the role more than it would transporting you to another location or gently and patiently ploughing a field, but money could be an incentive to do their best  which won't be better than the ones who are designed for such roles.
 The horse may actually enjoy or prefer running from places to places while a cow may enjoy/prefer ploughing the field without monetary incentive. This is what handles the role well

Now let me ask you, what makes you happy? I doubt if it's not money.  So stick to it and set it as your top priority. Even if you don't like the job, but its what keeping yourself and your family live healthy, eventually you will start to like the job because you are left with no choice than to earn nothing and leave your family stay in hunger.

Passion alone does not guarantee survival, except if what sustain your life now is already your passion from the beginning. But in reality, working these days is mostly based on practicality. Where you think you can raise your family well, that's where you stick and focus your mind. The fact that you're well compensated, that's already a good factor to keep your current job, except if better opportunity enters that attracts both your passion and practicality in life.

There are a lot of things that matter, one of which is money as you mentioned. Another very important thing is the work environment, which means that even if you don't really like what you are doing but you have a good work environment, which means everyone at your workplace is nice, even your manager or boss, because working in a toxic environment is very difficult, even if you are doing what you like but there is toxicity at the workplace, you will have a hard time enjoying yourself.

I personally think that the environment is more important than money, because I would never work at a place for a long time if people aren't good and have a bad attitude towards me even if I'm getting paid a good amount. If I know that I'm worth the money I'm getting, I will surely get a similar job somewhere else, and maybe the work environment will be better there, so I won't continue working in such a place if I have good skills. If I lack skills and I'm still getting a good amount, then I might think of continuing until I get a better opportunity.

Everyone including myself would not only try, but find happiness in a job I don't like, because the pay is good and I can save a chunk of my salary to reinvest in a business or investment opportunity I find okay, so as to multiply my funds and then resign from the job I don't like, to kick off my dream job or search for it, without as much worries for money to pay bills and feed myself as well as my family at large.

That's always the smart and practical way to go else one may find themselves at the top and suddenly down as a pupper, because they lack financial wisdom and understanding of practicality in investment and financial future and passion for achievement of a set goal.

I have done a couple of work before now, and at some point, I usually get tired because the passion was never there from start. But that was never enough reason to hit the brakes because of course, getting another job might not be as easy as you think. The end goal of getting a job and working daily is to meet your basic needs. 90% of the time, passion doesn't gets you that.

The truth is, no matter how much you love your job, you definitely can not be happy for the entire working days in that field. Terrible days are inevitable even when the passion is there. It takes far more than passion to survive these days because the inflation in so many countries isn't slowing down either.

You should be calm about the job you are in, because you will definitely find happiness but you should not expect everything at once. Whoever is in the place where he is, is annoyed with that place, but you should take a good look at it, if you are not in that place then your life can become chaotic. So, being employed in the place where you are suitable is one of the ways to be lucky for you.

Depends on the money.

Let's say they would offer me 2x my normal pay for something really nasty - I wouldn't do it.
But what if they kept going? 3x 4x 5x...
At some point I'd say F it! I'll do it.

How long? It depends on how much I'd hate it.
I've done a few jobs that I wanted to quit. The shortest one lasted for a month and about 3 weeks in I've already told them that I just want to reach the end of the month to get paid and I'm out.

Nowadays I'd have to know how much they're paying and exactly what they want from me to decide because a job can be a bit annoying, or it can be something you think of quitting every single day.
To give you an example, I hated a night job. I worked security 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. At first I loved it because I could watch youtube all night, but I couldn't make myself sleep during the day. I'd go to bed for 3 hours around noon and feel like I've lost a whole day because if you wake up at 2 you'll never be able to do anything in the afternoon and then you have to get ready for work at 6... So that's 4 hours to eat lunch and walk around the house like a zombie and then off to work for the night.

As much as possible, I would like to do things according to my passion.  With passion in hand, a person will strive to perfection.  They will never get tired of the work and is always happy doing the work.  When a person is happy about what he is doing, he can bring out the best in himself working.

Although practicality is a good thing, the downfall of this is that the work can't be as quality as the one working with passion.  Eventually, the person becomes sick of the job and will find any excuses just to have time to stay away from the job.

This analogy of taking up a job in an unconducive environment for the huge paycheck has left most employees frustrated, salary can't be enough, it's fixed and doesn't scale, so whatever an employee is paid tends to finish whenever the job is no longer there, and because people retire they'll either go back broke or indepted, leaving them in the trauma of working in an environment where they were never treated right, thereby lurking around in a full pile of sad memory. In life memories count so much in giving the mind a certain good amount of peace, when the brain goes back and forth on thoughts that's not great it lands the person in a horrible situation later on in their remaining days on earth.

We can endlessly tolerate a job that we don't like, but makes money. At least just because a person may not have any other options for existence. Moreover, most people live like this. We really need things like this because when we receive a substantial salary even exceeding our expectations it's essential in a job. As you mentioned earlier peace in the workplace isn't just about the salary we receive but also about our colleagues who are on the same wavelength so that problems don't arise either with our superiors or with the results of our hard work.

Of course I have also experienced something similar to you but the difference is that you find a job that you don't really like but you start to feel the comfort given by your coworkers so that you are increasingly comfortable with the job and this is different from my experience where the salary I received was more than my needs but there was a family member of my boss who made a mess so that over time our boss began to suspect what his family was doing with the reason why in the near future many asked to resign from the business place so that one day the problem arose so that the boss was disappointed with what he did with the work people who provided benefits for the life of our boss.
