I Have about 270 MSC, and I don't understand how the new OMNI brand could affect MSC price.
There is no visibility in what will be the role of MSC in the new OMNI Layer.
Any Idea?
You are right. I don't see the omnicoin raising in price.
The coins were minted in exchange for bitcoin, the bitcoin were supposed to be used to develop the omniprotocol, which would make the omnicoins valuable.
Now many of the parts of the protocol is developed and the omnicoins is still worth exactly what they were the day they were created, if counting in bitcoins not in dollars.
In my opinion this name change is for every part, except the coins. Omniwallet, omniprotocol, omnifondation and the currency mastercoin.
We are bagholders. Not much to do about that...
Such cynicism.
Mastercoins will become Omnis. This is a more difficult transition (since many places use the token name). However, Omnis are critical components in the ecosystem. Besides being a peer asset to all other assets issued on the Omni Layer, Omnis are special, in that new features use Omnis first, because it makes new features easier to release.
For example, a Send-To-Owners transaction needs a spam filter, so for each recipient it costs a willet, which gets burned (the Omni equivalent of a satoshi, the team’s way of giving JR credit for the invention). This very very slowly reduces the supply of Omnis. Future versions should allow the asset owner to decide which token is used as a spam filter.
On the DEx 2.0, all tokens will trade against Omnis (just like in DEx 1.0, Bitcoins trade against MSC/Omnis). Later versions will allow trade between all asset pairs (and someone might even get clever and figure out a way to make token-token trades with Omnis in the middle, transparently using the current 2.0 version when it is released… are you feeling clever?)
So keep your heads up, folks.
