Congratulations Fenerbahçe, you're back in the Champions League after so many years, It was a historic victory. The final minutes were terrifying, but thankfully, the match ended 2-1 without any major setbacks. Oğuz's attempts on the left wing paid off, and he delivered a fantastic cross to Vedat, who scored on both occasions. This season, Fenerbahçe is truly a different team. Fenerbahçe also had a penalty denied. Ederson couldn't do anything about Fofana's goal he sent it into the far corner at the most unexpected moment.

That was beyond my expectations. Congratulations also to Fenerbahçe, which has secured a spot in the Champions League after defeating Lyon.
My prediction: Lyon could advance to the Champions League after holding Fenerbahçe to a draw in the first leg with a strong performance. Strangely enough, when hosting Fenerbahçe in France, Fenerbahçe managed to play in a way that made them look as though they weren’t the away team.

They had 7 shots on target, compared to Lyon’s 6. Not to mention the total number of shots recorded throughout the match.
Kante, who served as Fenerbahçe’s balancing force, made it easier for wingbacks like Brown to maneuver into Lyon’s defensive zone.
I watched the replay of the match. Kante intervened in every area, especially at crucial moments.
His interceptions made things much easier for the team. The events after the match weren't pleasant Fenerbahçe and Lyon may face penalties.
Regardless of wins or losses, matches should end amicably there's no need for such unpleasant incidents. Guendouzi may have acted excessively, but I don't know what happened beforehand; he wouldn't do something like that for no reason.

Word, Viking really deserves to be mentioned! Fenerbahce always had solid teams and good chance to qualify they just didn't get it together for the past 18 years. But Viking, a club that I have never actually heard of, playing their first ever UCL season will be magical for them and their fans.
Obviously in several games they won't have chance against the big players but maybe they can be the next Cinderella story, just like Bodø/Glimt last season. It's always fun to see new teams upsetting some big corporate sponsored Dubai owned teams.  Grin
Viking FK was on my bet yesterday, I didn't know them, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt since they were playing at home and the leg 1 finished in a 2-2 draw. They did not disappoint as they ended the game 3-1 against another club which I'm also not familiar with.

Celtic disappointed, Bodø/Glimt was my first pick on my bet, and they didn't disappoint, small clubs will make the Champions League more interesting. Fenerbahce was obviously going to qualify, them and Bodø/Glimt, I knew they wouldn't disappoint.

Sometimes, not knowing a team and relying solely on basic analysis, such as whether they’re playing at home and looking at their statistics from previous matches does indeed consistently yield pretty good results. But when we know one team and aren’t familiar with the other, we sometimes tend to pick the team we know, and that doesn’t always end well. Personally, I’m not familiar with Viking, but I know Dinamo Zagreb, so when I watched that match, I didn’t hesitate to pick Dinamo Zagreb which actually made me doubt the final result. Usually, Dinamo Zagreb always manages to advance. But I didn’t expect Viking, a team I didn’t know, to actually beat them.

As for Fenerbahçe and Bodo/Glimt, well, I had no doubts about these two teams either. And they managed to win just as expected.

I can't lie, I really like this UCL format. We get to watch top teams play each other from the first week of the UCL. Barcelona will play Man City and PSG. Madrid will face Arsenal and Inter, Bayern will face Man United, Arsenal and Atletico.
And we would still see more top matches in the knock out phrases of he competition. I really like it.
Even the play off round are also very interesting. The big teams would still qualify like how it was previously, but it's more interesting.
There are some matches in the group stage that will make the Champions League interesting from the start. In the group stage, we are going to see high voltage matches like Barcelona vs PSG, Arsenal vs Bayern Munich, Real Madrid vs Arsenal, Manchester City vs Barcelona and Manchester City vs PSG matches.
The schedule has not been released yet, when the schedule is released we will understand how many interesting matches we are going to see every week. In this format, the big teams are no longer getting free points, they have to earn points through struggle from the beginning.

Making predictions for yesterday's matches, I also thought that Dinamo Zagreb would win due to their extensive European experience. However, I was wrong—Viking secured the victory and qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history. I also failed to predict the winner of the Lyon vs. Fenerbahce match. But I had no doubts about AEK and Bodo/Glimt, and both teams successfully advanced to the Champions League group stage.

Galatasaray are done for man, we are done for... It's such an unlucky draw for us. Playing against Barcelona and PSG is like the worst Pot 1 draw! I don't know if we can collect any point from even one of these games.

Even the rest of the draw isn't that favourable for us.  Sad  We had a better draw last year. I just hope we don't mess up in the games that we have a real chance of winning. As long as we finish in top 24, I'm okay with it.

Maybe this season will bring more surprises from teams that weren’t previously considered favorites or were even seen as just average. Just like Bodo/Glimt, which also pulled off a surprise last season.

But one thing’s for sure. Viking is the team that’s caught my attention. I wasn’t really interested in them before but after doing some research, it turns out Viking isn’t a weak team at all. They even won the Eliteserien title in the 2025 season, finishing one point ahead of Bodo/Glimt. their performance seems to have been on the rise since 2024. I’m really looking forward to more surprises from Viking in this year’s UCL.

From my point of view, the PSG and Arsenal match is going to be the toughest. These two teams will have to face the toughest teams in the group stage. Out of the eight teams that Arsenal will face in the group stage, 6 teams are capable of challenging Arsenal. Lille and Real Betis cannot be neglected.

In the case of PSG, I would say that 7 out of 8 teams are capable of challenging them. PSG's victory against Barcelona, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Roma, Galatasaray, Villarreal and Como cannot be said to be certain. Anything can happen in these matches.

Although there are some tough matches for the rest of the teams, it is not difficult for them to survive in the group stage. They have got some opponents against whom it is not difficult to get 3 points. In the upcoming Champions League, we are going to see some exciting matches right from the group stage.
Interesting!

FIFA knows what it is doing.

Why don't we see Barcelona vs Arsenal soon? I want to see the outcome between those two teams.

Apparently, Arsenal and Barcelona are the teams to face the toughest opponent in the group. The La Liga Champions and the English Champions.

You have just listed two out of eight games and I will say they are possible of 18 points left even if you lose that two games. The group stage matches are usually not that taken as high stake games by this top clubs like they do in the knockout stages. I watched the likes of sporting taking points off PSG last season and if sporting can pull that off then I think this same Galatasaray can do that. Since this format of the champions league started it is actually hard to predict the outcome of the 24 teams to qualify. I have some hopes for this supposed small clubs because I think they can upset in some games.

Maresca is facing a tough and difficult start in the champions league, he'd be heading on to play Barca after PSG, I desire to see Rodri in action against his former club. Frankly, the start of the league is scheduled to look like the knockout stage, more like a continuation of the previous season's final eight, some big clubs if care is not taken won't make it to the round of 16.

I’m sure Man City can’t be happy with this draw because they got tough opponents, especially since so far Mareca and Man City haven’t been fully solid, so facing PSG and Barcelona they’ll obviously struggle to get points. It’s different for Man Utd and Liverpool, who are two EPL teams that have the easiest opponents, I mean balanced with them in the UCL group stage.

For Maresca, of course this is a big challenge for his first season with Man City because they got the toughest match that might make their journey in the UCL even harder. Especially since Man City, after losing midfielders like Rodry and Silva, haven't fully found an equivalent replacement, which is evident as their current games show that Man City doesn't have good control in midfield both when defending and attacking. Yeah, of course it's interesting to watch the Man City vs Barcelona match because Rodry will face his former club, and I'm sure Flick will start Rodry from the beginning.

We could also say that for Maresca, facing two teams like Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona right from the start will be an excellent test. But so too will Mourinho’s Real Madrid, who will come up against his loved club Inter, as well as Arsenal and Roma (his former club).
I’m keen to see if Mourinho will address the defensive side of things, because in their last La Liga match they made quite a few mistakes; however, they’re a very young side with excellent players, and he’s the right manager for them.

Manchester city won't do well with maresca in the champions league and the signs are already evidence as it stands now. If things will change, he's got a couple of time to build his team right from the premier league but even at that, playing In the premier league for the sake of winning it is still the ultimate goal and dude can't focus on one at the negligence of another if he wants the right result for city. Facing PSG and Barca is already distabilizing for his career because the odds of him winning those kind of games is actually small.

I feel really sad for my team about the draw...  Cry

There is only 1 opponent which I can call easy here. And that's obviously AEK. The rest are all challenging ones for us. Our Pot 1 opponents are even much worse!

I wish we were as lucky as Fenerbahçe which is another team from our country. They've one of the easiest draws in my opinion. Anyway I still can't wait for league phase to start though!

It would have been better if the match against AEK were in Istanbul, but since it is taking place in Greece, AEK has a slight edge in the bid for the three points.
The teams Fenerbahçe has been drawn against might seem easier, but on-field performance will be the deciding factor. Suspension and injury issues during the campaign are also crucial; for instance, we don't yet know if Guendouzi will face a suspension following the recent match against Lyon. If he is suspended, it would be a significant setback for Fenerbahçe.
I hope both our teams play well and rack up plenty of points.

The Celtic fans would be very furious and disappointed at their club players laxity after successfully leading with 4 goal with few minutes to finish the game. Football is a game that rewards the better team, and as soon as Celtic became confident and comfortable that it was an already sealed win for them to relax, that when LASK took advantage of their comfort to drag the game to a 4:4 draw where they won it by 5 : 4 in the extra time. It's another day to remind us that until a game has being ended by the referee the game isn't over.

I think that after a match like this Celtic need to seriously examine their consciences. If i were the coach i would be furious with how the team approached the match.
With a four-goal advantage, which should already be a certain qualification, managing to lose with a five-goal comeback is something that no team can really afford.
Negative outlook for them.

Fenerbahçe played good football and qualified for the Champions League after a long hiatus. Today, after making the score 0-2, the team put up a strong collective fight.
Had Oğuz Aydın scored in the one-on-one situation during the second half, the match could have been put to bed much earlier.
Fofana was one of the most effective players on the pitch. He scored Lyon's goal. He will likely transfer to Roma starting tomorrow.
I know that Roma wants to sign Fofana.
I think Lyon would be open to this transfer, given their financial difficulties.
Lyon will be competing in the UEFA Europa League this season.

I believe that he also does not want to move away from the French environment and knowing that he is being courted by Roma, i believe that he also does not want to miss the opportunity, especially because this year Roma has undergone a truly remarkable reconstruction phase, with a Gasperini who could really surprise this year.

Yes, Fenerbahçe has truly revolutionized the entire squad, starting from the defense, which had notable drops, to the midfield and above all the attack, also securing a strong player like Lukaku, who, even if he comes in from an injury, i think will be able to get a starting shirt within a short time.

In the 3rd game of today, Celtic wasted their 3-0 advantage. Actually, they scored the first goal, so were 4-0 up on the aggregate, but allowed LASK to equalise and now we're going through extra time. LASK surely have a mental boost from coming back from being 4 goals down. LASK scored another one and we're just waiting for the 2nd half of the extra time, but things are looking really bad for Celtic.

Bodo/Glimt was confident of moving to NEC expense. They started really well, they score a lot and if they continue like this they can go far. is a shame for Celtic who let themselves recover and went to extra time, but a good, compact game, i like that. LASk deserves to continue looking at the last game against Celtic they really hit them hard 5 - 1 a great result.

Interesting!

FIFA knows what it is doing.

FIFA are not responsible for the champions league. I guess it’s UEFA you are referring to.

Quote

Why don't we see Barcelona vs Arsenal soon? I want to see the outcome between those two teams.
Let’s hope it happens this season if they can progress to the final and give us that match. But I wouldn’t want to see another champions league final that will involve boring Arsenal. Can’t remember any special moments in last season final courtesy to Arsenal. Apart from the moment Gabriel missed that penalty, I can’t remember any other special moments that night.

Quote
Apparently, Arsenal and Barcelona are the teams to face the toughest opponent in the group. The La Liga Champions and the English Champions.
Why so much interest in Arsenal and Barcelona? There other teams in those groups that are going to have difficult matches too. You can’t come to the champions league and be looking for easy path to the final. There’s no easy route to the final. When you are in the champions league, you are playing elite football,so there no soft landing.
