Many things have changed because anyone can now decide to be a merit source and post about it on Meta, unlike before that exceptional people were the one posting about it. As of that time, these kind of members are receiving enough merits on the merit source application thread, but now such is not happening because everyone just want to be a merit source but they are not having the qualities to be a merit source.

I may not agree with you on few links that you posted, but I totally agree with you on most of them or nearly all of them, although there were trash on Meta before, but it is getting worse.

I don't see any particular evidence that there's any malware there, and I don't consider merely naming it "Ethereum1" to be confusing enough to be classified as phishing. So the account is unbanned.

Meta used to be a board for concerning discussions about the forum, but as time goes on we get to see more ridiculous requests, threads and discussions from members we don't expect. Can we predict what's next?   not really.

1. The umpteenth thread complaining about the merit system: It will always come. Newbies will always complain, by now maybe everyone shouldn't be surprised to see to such thread.

2. A BS merit source application: they will not stop applying. I think that instead of members applying whenever they feel they're qualified, it can be left for only board moderators to forward an application requesting tha a particular user be made a merit source to support the board he is moderating instead of anyone waking up to apply for his personal interest.

3. A guy who begged for red tags and achieved 13 complaining about how wrong the DT system is: Ehn, this too.

4. The umpteenth thread complaining about how bad the forum or one of its sections is: Individual view and fanatics who always want it their own way.

Lastly is this your thread actually meaningful because I don’t even understand the purpose and the benefit of this thread.
We have moderators and they lock, move and delete posts that are not for meta board discussions, any posts you see on meta board for more than a week is actually  meant to be on the board.
This moderators are actually doing very well to keep meta board clean if you feel a thread here is not meaningful and educative it’s your own ideology and interest and you need to understand that here is a very big forum and people here have different ideology and interest, a thread that may seem frivolous or uninformative to a particular person may actually be meaningful or informative to the other person.

 Let's not act as though once in a while we've not being guilty of posting shit that we masquerade as posts designed for fun so let's leave it.

They moved around, and I saw another trend to spam in boards.

After Mitchell appointed as a moderator of Beginners & Help board, and took his great and strict moderation in this board, spammers began to switch to Bitcoin discussion board. They created threads similar to shit threads which were quickly trashed by Mitchell in Beginner & help board, but now they created such threads in Bitcoin discussion board.

Problem is people keep replying in pointless threads while they can report those threads to moderators. It's like community support to spammers and pointless threads.

Today is a bad day for the AI Luddites on the forum, and I would like to take this opportunity to express my condolences.

That's normal, theymos is a reasonable guy who allows a certain amount of legitimate AI use on the forum, but he won't allow AI to turn this into a forum of bots interacting with each other.

Maybe the current situation will wake up some people, and they will stop calling people "AI Luddites", and really notice, that a lot of humans are so lazy, so the main use case of AI on forums will be just spamming. Any productive use of AI will require some effort, so many users won't do that, if it would be almost as hard, as making it without any AI.

I guess we will see even worse AI generated cases, where it would be harder and harder to verify their quality. Some people are trying to poison some models, or even seriously think about stopping their contributions to the Open Source world, to not feed huge models with too much content. I already saw some people moving their repos out of GitHub, to avoid them being constantly scanned by bots.

OP seems to be somewhat annoyed, although he does not want to find similarities in characters with the guy who sometimes not only criticizes but also "sharply cuts" the truth. No wonder they say that everything we deny is in ourselves. And if this topic continues, then those whom the OP may "offend" may create "resistance," thereby inflaming the conflict to the limit.

While we are at that, why don't we include Reputation board as well?

Each board deserves a special evaluation, and accordingly, admins could help in reducing spam by disabling signatures in some boards like Reputation.

Rather than that, I would like a proposal to theymos to disable signature in Meta board. Not sure theymos is ready to do that like how he did with two boards years ago.

Honestly, I find signature advertisements distasteful, and it is not impossible that I will someday ban the practice.

Let's see why in years merit system worked acceptably and improved forum post quality generally but now it becomes distasteful again. It's because spammers nowadays can rank up like without any barriers, challenge from merit system as they faced with years ago.

So, it's not disable signature in Meta board is a solution, they will move to other boards for spam. The solution is tightening the merit system or the last solution, disable all signatures.

I am going to the "extremes" because you can't suggest about disabling signatures in one board due to some pointless topics/spam, yet the mother of spam is out there, and we are turning a blind eye to it just because a number of signature campaigns want you to post there. It doesn't make any sense to me. Meta isn't even that badly off in terms of spam.

That would maybe make sense if Meta is overrun with spam and shitposts, but despite the occasional troll topic and unreasonable request, it's one of the cleaner boards. At least among those that I regularly visit.
