Some persons sees gambling as a means of survival, it all depends on how you see it, OP you can see it as nothing close to investments but I can assure you that we have people who are gaining more in gambling, it could be that the reason why some don't see it as a means of investment is because they are doing it wrongly and they are not consistent that is why. When something start favoring I see no reason why you'd love to leave that thing and say something like is not good to my financial status, no, if gambling have been a means of you making crazy cash I don't think you would be saying is not a means of investment, to me it is. Anything you risk to get profit I think it should be called a form of investment not because you failed that is when you say is bad and all that, let's put it this way, Bitcoin investments doesn't always go the way want planned and wanted but we still stick to it because we see it differently, either way both are form of investment as long as there is something we gain from either of them, only thing you'd say is that you don't like gambling that it is bad, maybe I can agree with you on that aspect.

Seems like you did not read a single comment in this thread. Plenty of people already spelled it out, results are not the right yardstick to tell gambling and investing apart.

You can see gambling as a way to put food on the table and make money from it, but that doesn't turn it into investing. The difference is in what the activity actually is, not whether you win or lose.

You say people make a lot of money from gambling. Got any proof of that? And since when does gambling require consistency ? lol

I don't just consider gambling as a true investment because when you are talking about investment it gives you the full ownership of asset with an expected return of huge profit over a long term period of time. But gambling involves you putting your money at risk on an unpredictable event where you do not buy or own anything of real value and the outcome is based mostly on chance and luck where it is hard to give an accurate prediction of the result making it uncertain to give accurate prediction where as the house always wins most times.

There is nothing you will do in gambling that can change the narrative of gambling as investment. There are people that gamble responsible, they make more than some traders but out of fear that they can't win forever and gambling is unpredictable, they have other things they do. I'm sure that the way the money is coming from gambling, if it was an investment, they will have peace of mind and wouldn't want to do anything again.

If a trader is making thousands of dollars from trading, I don't think they will want to do anything else, they will prefer trading 100% and will want to be doing it.
Sometimes I doubt if people actually know difference between the mechanism of gambling, trading and making investments, you can compare trading and investment but never a gambling can be on the spot with them.

But there are very few people who have been able to make a lot of money by gambling responsibly and who have been able to maintain self-control over themselves at the end of the day. The main goal of most people through gambling is to get rich quickly, so most people gamble aggressively and go beyond their means, as a result of which they face a lot of financial losses.

Achieving success through trading is not an easy work. A trader needs knowledge of market volatility and long-term skills. In addition, it is very important to adopt proper planning and risk management and control your emotions and have discipline and patience, which is not possible for everyone.

It's impossible to depend on gambling as a source of income because there's no guarantee of consistent winning and you are setting yourself up for problems in the future. You might win today a lose all in the next games, especially when you start chasing losses. I don't know if you can still refer someone that depends on gambling responsible because there might be a time where greed pushes them to gamble alot without limit. There are some things you can use as means of survival, I can't put Gambling and Trading in that Category.

Sometimes gambling too much can lead to addiction, and surely some who see it as a means of survival will be addicted to. If you are gambler, Trader or an investor you need to have a good and less risky alternatives as a means of survival. There's no attribute of Investment in gambling, it's all about short term high risk and depends on how lucky you are.

The way you picture things isn't the same way the next person does so don't take it as if people are not using gambling to start up something meaningful in life, as long as there's a risk of getting something productive, profit, why can't you see it as another means of investment? If you don't appreciate how things are being done by another person it totally mean you don't like what that person is doing and you can not imagine yourself doing it, people make lots of cash from gambling and I don't need to convince you to accept that fact, even if I sample proof from now till the next day it will still be like a movie to you, in other words don't condemn the fact that gambling is another form of investment to some and they take it seriously as some of us take bitcoin investments seriously too.

Have a colleague at work place who keeps saying that gambling is also investment that in gambling whatever amount you use to gamble can actually yield back the results, he emphasize on that if you are gambling you should do the best to use a better amount to place your bet so that if you win then you gonna have good pay out.

I paused a bit, while something was ringing in my head that if this dude was joking or if he truly understand what Gambling is. Of course I didn't agreed with him because I know gambling is never investment but a game of entertainment and having fun. Whatever above this is never regarded as an investment rather being too open to be deceived.

In other hands, investment is different from gambling, let say if uses specific amount to buy Bitcoin worth of 100$ and if market drops the investment decreases by dollar equivalent but the fractions of my Bitcoin remains the same till the market took back its place or even move above expected price and I could likely sell to have my profit whereas, I can also hold for longer time as I wishes. But on the contrary, if you uses same amount to gamble when you lose it there is no way to get it back and there is no possibility of winning, in fact the chances are 50/50 base.

Is he right from what you think?
In my own perspective, I would say gambling is never an investment; rather, the operators make fortune out of your losses repeatedly. I must say gambling is not an investment, While reading through I saw someone saying gambling is a staking game by which your chance of winning is 50/50 which is through but different from investing/trading, for investing in crypto we really need to understand  the possibility depends on market movement conditions. time period and other factors we can't actually place at 50/50 chance like we did with gambling.

Most people see investing in Bitcoin as gambling which is wrong, it might be similar if we are referencing some altcoins which their is no guarantee that you always recover  your losses once the token rises again; most token never return to its initial price, but the future is bright when Bitcoin is involved.

We are always advised not to gamble with money you can't afford to lose. know this even the money you can afford to lose deserve a careful consideration.

It’s totally absurd for anyone to depend on gambling as their form of investment, You’ve talked about how gamblers are making lots of cash but do you also realize that they can’t always be lucky as gambling is strictly a game of luck and chance. You only talked about how they make lots of money why not also talk about how much they lose. I am not arguing that gamblers don’t make profit when they do win eventually, but what happens when they don’t win, they lose right. The bitter truth is that, you can make some profit today in gambling and still lose it the next day through the same gambling. So where’s the growth of the investment here, there’s absolutely no significant sign of growth because once in a while, an investment should be able to show some level of growth in the future, but here the case is different.

First I don’t think gambling should be considered an investment. When you invest in things like stocks, bitcoin or even real estate, I think in the long run there is a possibility that you get profit but when it comes to gambling it a different case. So it never okay to see gambling as one’s main source of income, you will need a source of income to keep funding your gambling.

We have seen people lose their way in gamble, they end up selling personal stuffs to fund their gambling. So having gamble as the only or main source of income is not just good. Get something going and gamble for fun or at least as an alternative source of income.

Yes. Gambling really can't be equated with investing. In investing as you mentioned, there is indeed a chance for long-term growth in value. Whereas gambling entirely depends on random chances where the house always has a mathematical edge. So making it your main source of income almost certainly leads to losses and can even drive you bankrupt.

That's why it's very important to develop a different mindset between the two. We should view gambling as entertainment or a side activity funded by other income, so the risks are more manageable. On the other hand if you treat it as an investment it often pushes someone to gamble more aggressively, and they might unconsciously sell personal assets and fall into a debt spiral. So, always prioritize stable sources of income and treat gambling just as entertainment with strict limits.

gambling can be a way to make money, but making money and investing are two different things.
having a job, running a business, or even betting and playing the lottery can all make you money. but that does not make them investments.

making money is outcome. the difference between investing and gambling lies in nature of the activity itself. when you invest, you own an asset or a stake in something of value. when you gamble, you don't own anything.

You can't say the two are the same just because both can make you money or cause you to lose it. you're using profit potential to justify gambling, and that's comparing apples to oranges.

An activity cannot be called an investment if it is possible to earn money through it. Someone can earn money through trading or  bet. But the risks and methods of earning money are not the same. Therefore, it is not reasonable to consider an activity as an investment just because of the possibility of profit.
The main point of investment is to acquire ownership of an asset or something that creates value. The future value of which can increase or from which income can be obtained. In the case of gambling you usually do not acquire ownership of any productive asset. You put money at risk on an uncertain outcome. Not all types of trading or financial contracts can be called gambling in the same way their nature, purpose and risks have to be considered separately.

If someone buys Bitcoin and keeps it for the long term, he is acquiring ownership of a digital asset. But if someone buys and sells it repeatedly in the hope of making a quick profit from short-term price fluctuations, the nature of his activities can become much more speculative. Owning Bitcoin does not make an investment safe or profitable.
Making money is an outcome. Investing is a specific process involving resources and risk to achieve that outcome. It is wrong to call gambling an investment just because it is possible to make a profit from gambling. Similarly, it is not reasonable to automatically call an investment gambling just because there is a possibility of loss from an investment. .

Investment and gambling are definitely two different things and I think everyone thinks of gambling as a bad thing at first. But be it for entertainment or any other purpose, once someone starts gambling, they can't get out of it for some reason. Whether they gamble regularly or occasionally, their gambling habit remains and in this case, a large part of their monthly income is lost in gambling. Some people lose their entire income and even take loans to gamble. And this kind of activity makes people reluctant to invest. At that time, they get scared and think of investment and gambling as the same risk. It is actually a psychological thing. This thought comes automatically to people when someone gets involved in gambling.

Gambling is no investment. Gambling is spending money on fun and adult entertainment. Not investment, not an income source and definitely not a way to get rich quick, even though there are a lot of people who seem to believe that. The truth is that it is for fun. Nothing more...

And anyone who cannot see the fun in gambling should not be gambling.

Gambling has no useful or financial purpose.

There is no point at which someone should consider gambling as an investment because they are totally different. Unless someone just wants to deceive themselves, there is nothing that brings gambling and investment close to each other.Gambling relies heavily on chance, and when someone loses, the money is gone. However, in investment, there may be opportunities to recover losses over time. Let’s use Bitcoin as an example: when someone invests in Bitcoin, even if the price drops, it is possible that the price will recover in the future. This is one of the things that distinguishes investment from gambling. Investments can lose value and also gain value over time.so, anyone who considers gambling an investment may surely end up regretting it sooner or later because there is no assurance that they will win, even if they continue gambling in the future.

I don't consider gambling an investment. An investment is expected to generate value over the long term, while gambling is, most of the time have negative return because the odds favor the house.
Its better treated as entertainment rather than an investment, although im not favor of calling it entertainment since gambling will really suck your money up if you dont have discipline.

First of all, it is important to know that an investment is also a risk, even though it is not as risky as gambling but you must have it at the back of your mind that you are going to incur losses. Even if you might not lose it is important to fix your mind that way so you don't get disappointed when that eventually happens. Gambling on the other hand is not an investment because the system is built around probability and not based on making profit.
Gambling will definitely take all your money if you are a constant player and it is even worse when you take it as a source of income.

Anything that can make you money comes with risk, business and investing included. But those risks can be worth taking, because with the right knowledge, and experience and risk management. You still have a shot at making a profit. Gambling is different story. The house usually has the edge, players have little chance of coming out ahead, no matter how hard they try.

So putting them side by side is comparing apples to oranges from the get-go.
No offense to anyone who treat gambling as a source of income or an investment but they clearly lack basic financial literacy.

I agree with you on that. It's the people that  misuse gambling that makes it look bad. It main purpose is for entertainment sake , but with time people start overusing by trying to get rich off it , sometimes it happens lucky but most time people experience more loss. Anything can be bad if you misuses it for example when you overtrade , you begin to develop some addiction problems. Even in normal Bitcoin investments, if you invest with money that's for daily needs or invest due to Fomo and panic which makes you sell at loss if the price is not doing well. So like I said before anything can be bad when misused , but we just have to limit the way we use it and also the use of proper risk management. I do gamble on weekends or weekdays (if there's champions league) and I don't see any thing bad in there.
