I don't think a small Bitcoin investor can be profitable. Please there's a big difference between trading and investing. In trading you'll have to apply buy and sell, controlling how you want the market to move for you but investment. You don't do anything you just fund your account and allow it to grow. In 'Grow' I mean for an instance you invest with 5k while Bitcoin is at 82k, you will have to wait until Bitcoin hit 164k to get 100% profit of that your 5k

100% profit huh? If only wishes were horses. You speak as if you know what will happen in the future. Investment is not guaranteed mate. imo you could fund your account and wait and still not make the profit that you wanted. You can even buy now and your stash continues going down in value as a result of dips.  Even if Bitcoin later rises up, there is no guarantee that it will reach that 164k that you want.

And if person keep on waiting instead of ongoingly accumulating, the person could eventually end up not investing because of the amount of time that has been wasted in waiting. Waiting is so counterproductive and there is no gain in doing that.

Also in investing, it is dumb to just fund your account and folds your legs waiting for it to grow. You will have to invest and keep investing so that you could ongoingly increase your stash.

Which brings me back to my question
Can small investors actually make good profit with bitcoin?

Or are there other ways to make money with bitcoin as a small investor rather than just buy and hold?
Yes small investors can also make good profits from bitcoin but it also depends on on your expectations like if you want to invest $1000 and then the price doubles so the profit percentage will be the same as large investor. Moving from $64k $128k or $256k is not impossible but takes some time. You should look forward for long term growth not for the profit in a day or in a night. If you want to earn from small investment than DCA is a good option in which you invest every month and get benefit from average ups and down of market. However there is another option of trading and altscoins in which there are both risk and profit but the loss is also very big. I think if you want to stay safe and make some profit you should buy spot and hold it and also the dca strategy is a best option.

There’s no guarantee you’ll be profitable even In the long term because bitcoin is very volatile. The price of bitcoin is very unpredictable so you can’t be certain that you’ll be in profit. Apart from bitcoin price value mostly driven by supply and demand there are also other factors which influences the market price movement that are very much unknown so it’s not certain that you will be in profit or you’ll be in a loss in the future and that’s why it’s important to invest according to your risk tolerance level because there’s no certainty in the market.

One thing I believe is that if Bitcoin keep existing then surely, someone will make profit in the long run no matter the volatility of Bitcoin because the fact that Bitcoin is volatile doesn't mean it can stay in a particular price for over 2 years no, I doubt that and i don't think it has ever happened in Bitcoin before and so, I don't think it will happen now and even though the volatility of Bitcoin reduces, if it doesn't lose value it will definitely surge so two things are always involve and I don't see Bitcoin losing value anytime soon.
Bitcoin survival and an investor's profit are not the same thing. You believe in long-term potential, which is certainly logical in investing. But that does not mean that no matter how much volatility there is, you will definitely make a profit in the end. The price at which you bought it and when you will need the money are both important. I am telling you on purpose, an asset can be quite active and valuable but still be below the purchase price of a certain buyer. So the price not being zero does not mean that every buyer will make a profit. Suppose you bought an asset for $5,000 per unit. After a few years, that asset is still alive and trading. But after a few days, the price of that asset drops to $3,000. In this case, if you have to sell it if necessary, you will lose. Here, you have no problem with the existence of that asset, but your result was not profitable. The biggest thing is that I think it may be more important to focus on savings rather than calculating additional profits at the beginning of the investment.

Common reason on how people got lots of stressed on Bitcoin, because they are so greedy to think about 100% sure profit on it.

Problem starts for having this kind of mindset is when market experience a bearish movement. Since those people are the first one gets panic and maybe will change their plans then think about dumping immediately.

This is how important to have understanding on the situation, then accept the fact that when it comes on Bitcoin. Nothing is guarantee here, also those waiting for perfect time is just a total waste if time for them.

If they just spectate around and do nothing, because they wait for perfect time. Nothing will happen on them, because this might became the reason on why their portfolio will struggle to grow. So best to be reactive and be consistent with their accumulation. Since this will help them to build their portfolio then gets good value with Bitcoin in future.

Many people expect to make huge profits in a short time when investing. When the market moves against their expectations and the price starts to fall. Then they panic and change their plans. Before investing, it is important to understand that there is no guarantee of profit and even if you invest in the long term, there is a risk of a large price drop. Investment decisions should be made based on a well-planned strategy instead of temporary emotions. If someone wants to accumulate Bitcoin in the long term, there is no need to change their decision by looking at daily price fluctuations. Investment plans should be made considering their income and risk-taking ability.

Waiting for the right time indefinitely is also not an effective investment strategy. It is not possible to accurately know when the price of Bitcoin will reach its lowest level in the future. Waiting in the hope that the price will fall further may cause someone to miss the opportunity to enter the market. On the other hand, if you start investing after the price has already risen a lot, there is also the risk of buying at a higher price. Therefore, it is more important to create a realistic plan instead of looking for the perfect entry price.

The purpose of accumulating Bitcoin should be to build wealth in the long term. It is not a get-rich-quick scheme. While it is possible to build a portfolio through regular investment, it is not certain whether the value of that portfolio will increase in the future. Therefore, the main lesson of long-term Bitcoin investment is to invest consistently, understanding the risks, rather than trying to predict every market fluctuation.

I captured this part because it pointed out real fact about those that keep the habit of always waiting for the perfect time to invest. Hence, become a no coinner at the end of the day because that habit of theirs has sink deep into their system and blinded them from taking advantage when neccesary. But if they can actually stay consistent in accumulating, despite how small using the DCAing method, overtime they will certainly make things happen and build up a better future ahead.

However, DCAing method didn't just stepped in the scene for a child's play, but to fulfill its main purpose which is to allow every level of person's invest at their convenience without any excuse. So if you are still in that category of persons giving reasons for not investing in Bitcoin yet, then I don't think your reasons are justified because every time is just the perfect time to invest.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to "non-custodial"

Making good money from Bitcoin investment is very possible, bitcoin always have better value depending on when you buy your dips, those who already jump into the wagon at 58k are already in profit right now, buying period is always crucial.

Atleast expecting to make profits this way is better than planning to retire with 0.1BTC like some people are claiming, it's going to be a waiting list and it might never come to past or maybe it's going to take too extra long to get anywhere.

I would rather plan my retirement with 0.4BTC or have it in mind to just hold some Bitcoin that I can afford and wait for some profits, if you want to get big result you need to go big too..

If you want 0.4 BTC by the time you retire, then when would that be?  15 to 20 years or some other timeline?

If you were to buy $200 worth of bitcoin every week, then after one year, you would have had invested $10,400, and then so after 10 years, you would have had invested $104,000.  Perhaps at the point of investing $200 per week for 10 years, you would be able to get close to 0.4 BTC, yet $200 per week takes a lot of dedication.  Yet, from your post, you seem to want to get free bitcoin rather than really working for them, such as ongoingly and consistently buying them.

Since how much bitcoin accumulation is sufficient depends on the financial condition of the person investing. Therefore, it is not right to give a fixed rule to anyone that a person can accumulate enough bitcoin by following DCA regularly for 4 to 5 years and will earn good profits later. In my opinion, the goal of a long-term investor should be to continue bitcoin accumulation regularly according to his ability. There is no obligation to think about profit only after the first 4 or 5 years of accumulation. And when a person thinks about profit, when to sell bitcoin holding, it depends on the age of that person, the status of the income source and the responsibilities. Now if a person is at the end of his career and is very old, and his income source will stop in just a few months , in that case if he has a bitcoin holding for the last 4 to 5 years, he can think about it. But if a person is around 37 aged and is now earning has built up a sufficient bitcoin holding and is in a profitable position but wants to accumulate more bitcoin so that when he is unemployed, he can spend the rest of his life with this bitcoin holding, then although that person is investing for a long time, he does not stop investing. He is continuing to do so for financial security in the future. In this case, his overall situation is working in favor of continuing to invest. And when he meets his accumulation target or reaches the overaccumulation stage, there will be an opportunity to maintain the holdings or think about a planned sustainable withdrawal.
Hello Saltysugar99, i did not set a timeline when investors should sell their Bitcoin please, what i said is, small investors could make profit with Bitcoin if they consistently accumulate with dollar cost averaging (DCA) for 4 to 5 years. When an investor has successfully accumulated the size of Bitcoin he wants to hold, he will need to hold his Bitcoin for complete one cycle before deciding to sell it, and it is not up to you and i to decide for any investor when he should sell his Bitcoin. If you want to sell your Bitcoin when you are old you can stick to that but do not expect other investors to follow your investment plan.

You are trading Nightwatchmare and not investing.  If you plan to DCA for 4-5 years and then sell then you are not investing.

Think about how DCA works.. You buy bitcoin every week, so by the time you invested in bitcoin 4-5 years, you will have some bitcoin that are 4-5 years old and then other bitcoin that you just bought.  Selling sounds at that point sounds like trading and/or gambling.. not investing.

On the other hand, if you plan to accumulate for 4-5 years and then sit on your investment for another 4-5 years, then at that point you would have 8-10 years investing in bitcoin, and you might consider plans from there.  Selling all of your bitcoin does not sound smart, yet as you suggested, each of us can do whatever we like, even though the real profits are likely with the guys who figure out how to continue to hold their bitcoin rather than selling all of it, and so if they start to sell, they will sell in incremental ways rather than in large chunks...

1) Self-Custody is a right.  Resist being labelled as: "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

Sure, I agree with you here. Planning to sell off your assets within 4-5 years of accumulation surely sounds a traders mindset, because we know that the real value of Bitcoin is known/seen in long term HODLing. Sure, it may increase somewhat within this 4-5 years, but it can't be compared to the value it may possess if we look at it in a more wider perspective, let's say 10-15-20 years and more.

You know, one major problem for plebs is relying on there growing portfolio to solve there problems immediately. I mean, some guys come into Bitcoin investment with an already plan of doing this or that with there gains with let's say 5years of investment. They already had a timeline of pulling out there resources. So these kind of guys, when they see the price a bit higher, and they meet there initial proposal of selling, they begin to sell. Sure, anyone can do what they like with there investments. But coming into Bitcoin with an investment mindset is better off, because the more we are able to HODL, the more we are also buying and increasing our assets gradually, and eventually, we get to buy more Bitcoin and also HODL longer.

A newbie is still learning, so it will be more good that they start little instead of them trying to invest big. The best risk management that a newbie can do is to start small . And it is good that they do that because while they are still learning. During learning, newbies make all manner of mistakes because they haven't gotten much knowledge as professional investors.
It is not mandatory for every person to start with a small amount. Every person can invest the amount of their discretionary income that they are always willing to invest. To start investing, a person only needs a source of discretionary income. If a person is able to find a source of discretionary income, then he can start investing.

The reason why it is said to start with a small amount is because there are many people who are afraid of the volatility of Bitcoin and when they invest with a large amount of money, if the market falls, they may not be able to control their emotions and sell. We have to look at starting with a small amount in two ways. Because there are many people who can build faith in Bitcoin and are able to easily deal with the fall. Such a person can definitely invest the amount of money that he will always use in the beginning.
You are correct that newbies can decide to start however they like, yet you are wrong to proclaim that they need a source of income to invest in bitcoin.

To invest in bitcoin, all they need is discretionary funds, and if they have discretionary funds, they can decide whether and how much of it to invest in bitcoin and whether to buy right away and/or DCA and/or buy on dips.

It likely would also be good to put some of the money in their back up funds, especially in cases in which their future income and/or expenses might be uncertain.
Well I want to understand from you that how it can be wrong to claim that Bitcoin investment requires a source of income. It is true that only discretionary funds are required for investment and if one has discretionary funds then they can take a guess as to how much of it to invest and start buying bitcoins very quickly or use DCA or other strategies to buy bitcoins. Source of income and discretionary fund may be two different concepts but discretionary fund is created from source of income. For example, 1. Source of income refers to the medium or means by which you are earning money such as money from job, profit from business,Money can also be earned from house or shop rent etc.

On the other hand, the money that a person is earning and what is left after meeting all mandatory expenses from that earned money is discretionary funds, isn't that the correct logic? So this proves that other funds are generated from the source of income and we can divide it in different ways and use it for Bitcoin investment or can be used for other purposes.

DCA is fun though Tongue

Yeah, I support people that enjoy the process of consistently stacking sats over time. If you really spend the amount you can easily afford to lose on buying Bitcoin, why not do it once or twice in a month? After all, if you spend it on coffee, alcohol or food when you are overweight, you are going to lose more than money, you are going to lose your health. Buy Bitcoin with your spare money if you have it.

Or once a quarter, or once a week, or instead of a regular period, something like 'everytime I have $50 savings in my DCA pot, I buy BTC' that's the beauty of the whole thing, right?~

Absolutely. If you are doing it only with money that you can easily afford to lose and it brings you pleasure, why not? People who were doing it 10 years ago can now enjoy the results. Is there anything that brings you pleasure now and lets you enjoy the results afterwards, apart from making kids, of course?

I believe the key problem here is that you’re misunderstanding that a discretionary funds have to come from an existing source of income. It’s true that having an income is one of the ways to create discretionary funds, but I think that’s not the only way a person can have discretionary income. A person who's not presently working may have funds from former work or other sources that he or she can sensibly use for Bitcoins.

That's why there a distinction between a source of income and discretionary funds. A steady income is useful to build up those funds and accumulating more, but that is not really a requirement for anyone to begin investing. What matters is that you have a spare cash available to accumulate Bitcoin without jeopardizing their basic needs or financial stability at risk. And any week or month you don’t have a discretionary income then it’s fine to skip for that particular period.

So this proves that other funds are generated from the source of income and we can divide it in different ways and use it for Bitcoin investment or can be used for other purposes.
You could have a source of income and still be unable to figure out any discretionary funds depending on how things are on you, maybe your responsibility couldn't let you figure out any discretionary funds, that's why we can't just say that one needs a source of income to start investing in Bitcoin.

We don't need a source of income to start accumulating Bitcoin, although it is preferable and good to have a source of income, but it's not necessary for you to have it in order to accumulate or invest in Bitcoin.

You are right on this, activities and some other things can make someone not to be able to accumulate Bitcoin and it is very understandable and it won't be good or advisable for someone to force it when it is obvious they can not make it. But you are absolutely wrong when you said one doesn't need a source of income to invest in Bitcoin because where will you get the funds that will help you figure or sort out your discretionary income of course you need a source through which you can get your discretionary income though the source of income must not be stable.

You don't need a source of income before you can figure your discretionary income. You can figure out your discretionary income from anywhere such as from a gifted money, lottery or side hustle. For instance, I am looking for a job and haven't found one yet and my Senior sister sent me money as a birthday gift. I can figure out my discretionary income from it and invest in bitcoin. Once my basic need has been  sorted, if there's anything is left, I can use it to invest in bitcoin.

What you don't understand is that you don't need to have a source of income before you can invest in bitcoin instead what you need at that moment is only your discretionary fund. Your discretionary fund is that money you are willing to risk at that point in time.

Discretionary income mustn't be from your source of income. You can get discretionary income through various ways as follows;

1) Money given to you as gift

2) The sales of an abandoned property that is depreciating in value overtime.

3) The extra cash from your income after settling your basic needs.

4) Winning a jackpot.

You need a stable discretionary income to keep your DCA ongoing till you reach your bitcoin target which is why you need a source of income with a discretionary income.

Yeah right, there are some sort of ways on how people could earn that. Those situations you have mentioned is best ways to have discretionary funds to use for their investment.

But those are irregular sources and if they just rely on it, that one cannot sustain their plans to do DCA for long term.

So if they really want to succeed, what really matter is to have a steady income flow of their discretionary funds. This is why many people rely on their source of income, because this is best way to go with their investment, after they are done paying all their obligations.

Without having a good source, their DCA goals will be in huge risk to vanish. Especially if their irregular source will start to dry up.

You may not need a source of income to start accumulating Bitcoin but if you have a long term investment goal, you won't get far without a reliable source of income. You may have buy lump sum Bitcoin with extra funds when you were a beginner, that's a good investment strategy, but to be consistent like accumulating Bitcoin in the DCA method, discretionary income is necessary and essential.
Even if we have a source of income we may not be able to buy Bitcoin every week or month. There are many people who due to the pressure of responsibilities, cannot accumulate Bitcoin even if they want to. Having a source of income is essential. To do continuous DCA but you need extra available funds to start.

Gift money and money from lotteries or other jobs also generate discretionary income and can be used to invest in Bitcoin. But those who don't have source of income may not generate regular discretionary income thus those investors have to depend on others like you are relying on, it may not be possible to buy bitcoin investment regularly but they can hold it for long term.

Indeed everyone needs a stable source of income to invest in bitcoins with long-term planning and to hold patiently and grow their portfolio by buying regularly, with the discretionary funds required for smooth and worry-free bitcoin investments, and it would be better to keep some of their money in a backup fund as well. You should understand this calculation formula, Discretionary Fund = Gross Income of each person - Taxes - Essential Expenses, so to my knowledge in this case it is proved that there must be a source of income.

Having a source of income doesn't automatically means that you will end up having discretionary income. What you need to invest in bitcoin is discretionary income and not a source of income since it is possible for someone that has a source income not to have discretionary probably due to higher expenses that is eating up their income. Also, you don't need to guess how much you are to invest with, the first thing before you invest in bitcoin is to attend to your basic needs them whatever you have left is your discretionary and you can decide how much of it you want to invest with.

One of the major importance of an emergency fund that I believe some people often overlook is the fact that with enough or should I say an adequate emergency fund in place, there’ll be no need for any investor to forcefully sell their bitcoin in unpleasant market conditions. Sometimes we believe that the only reason people often sell early is because they fail to have a long term plan for their investment, but I tell you, even with a solid long term investment plan, unexpected expenses and emergencies can still pop out of no where and if one isn’t prepared for them, then the only viable option becomes to tap into your investment which automatically disrupts your solid plan.
The main task of a conscious investor is to pay attention to all the disasters and problems that are likely to be encountered around him. Many obstacles may have to be overcome to invest in the long term and they may be due to various reasons. There is a need for emergency funds for investment. This is a danger that comes when you are not prepared and if you need a small or large amount of money to overcome it, you can meet the need through emergency funds. It is necessary to have a proper plan for investing and the importance of emergency funds for moving forward in the long term is realistic.

Having what it takes to foresee or pay attention to the setbacks or problem you are likely going to encounter and having or keeping emergency funds is serious advantage that will help leave someone's investment in a healthy balance or atmosphere. To expantiate, when it is that you can foresee a setback, you can likely avoid it if it is avoidable and/or you will have a good plan to overcome it which makes it easier altogether. Foresight is incredible in investment knowing the advantages that comes with it.
