I know this is true because there are clips of the courtroom all over the internet, but it sounds so unrealistic because of the action of the woman taking him to court but we all know the world, of course things happen especially unrealistic things like this; you don’t want to be part of the marriage anymore but any to be part of the wealth, well I love the fact that courtroom would decide based on shared marital properties since the divorce is concluded already.

Sometimes, when we read some stories about how shameless some women can be, it makes me wonder if they are even human, but I can't generalize it because my mother is also a woman and I have encountered pretty good ones out there too.

Over to the question:  My decision will be based on how i feel the court will rule over the case  if i see that the court might rule in her favour I will flee with the money and start all over again elsewhere without given any woman chance of marriage and try to fix my life from that divorce.

If you're the man, what will you do?
If the divorce time you are quoting is right then I'm not sure the both of them has anything in common anymore. Therefore, the man has no case to answer in court in regards of the winning jackpot. However, the woman is indeed a very desperate person, how am I even sure she wasn't the one limiting her ex-husband over the years, and is not even up to 24 hours he has received a huge breakthrough, that's pretty amazing.

Sometimes in live there are some set of person's that need to give way in your live for good things to come. This has proven that she was actually a negative energy to that her ex-husband and I thank God for the man. Again, If I am to be considerate based on old time sake or for humanity sake, I would have loved to show her some love, maybe give her some percentage but with this step she has taken I'm not sure she will receive a damn from me if I was to be the man in question.

This is nonsense, and court always favour women in such cases, the court will know if they have children and if they have, the. The money will be 50/50. If I were him what I would have done was to use the money to buy Bitcoin and send it to non custodial wallet and print out the Bank statement of the month to the court that my account is empty and I don't have anything and I have loss the money again in the gambling process.

Women and money. I believe she have no shame for coming back to claim she has right to part of her ex-husband wins.
Lol. Women and money are 5 and 6, so they don't usually feel shy about anything that concerns money. Even when they are at fault, they would still want to turn everything against you. But I think this particular one it's not funny at all, because they are no longer in the same house.

She should allow the innocent man to enjoy his money in good faith and move on with his life, because there is a high possiblity that she was a hindrance for the man, nothing more than that at all.

I dont know if this was posted here before, but if it ws i will lock this topic asap.

There's a video circulating on social media lately about a woman who took her ex-husband to court for her own share of the $40 million lottery he won 3hours later, after their divorce was finalized.
The woman claimed she suffered with the man for 7 years, while she also gave up her career to support the man during those 7 years, but the ex-husband dont buy it and said she was interested in the little money he had now his lottery jackpot winnings after they had already divorced.

If you're the man, what will you do?

It's a very unlikely story, but stranger things have happened. There is going to be a point in every divorce proceeding where it becomes finalized and there is absolutely no obligation left to the other person in the relationship. If the assets were divided equitably and fairly up until that point then there is no further claim by the other party. Being that close in time, there could be an infinitely small chance of an argument where the money used to buy the ticket came from a pool of money yet to be finalized and divided - if the lottery ticket was bought when they were still married then a cunning lawyer could possibly argue a case where the divorced have to share at least some of the lottery win, but many judges would throw this out or make it a fraction of the amount. If I lost $1 million of a $40 million jackpot in such a case I'd hold no particular resentment, hell I'd be happy enough to keep half - it'd still give you a very fun life.

Depends on how the relationship ended and how the situation is between me and her. If it was a mutual decision and I actually know that the has suffered a lot because of me and never complained and the divorce wasn't because of a dispute or anything but it was necessary for both, then maybe I would give her some money from it. However, if it's the other way around, the divorce happened because she made my life hell and was never happy with me for no reason and always kept taunting me and stuff, she is not getting a dime from what I own now.

Those who are saying that the time when the ticket was bought could make a difference, how? Unless it was her who bought the ticket or paid for it, she can't claim to have a share from the winnings, because even if they were still married, by law, the spouse doesn't automatically become eligible for getting a share of your property when you are in a relationship, but in some countries, the law says that she gets a percentage after the divorce, and even based on that, he didn't have anything by the time they got divorced, and he only won the money after they were separated.

In this case I'm guessing that woman probably divorced him because he had no money but whatever the case may be the woman has lost already and if I'm the man in question I would do everything to stop her from having a share of my money because she was obviously a bad luck, $40m is a huge amount so i will take my money and leave the country if that will be possible and for the man i just hope that when they check the time he won the money that it would actually show he won the exactly 3 hours after the divorce like he said.
I do not think the time he won the lottery matters. If he had the lottery ticket before the divorce, the women would be given part of the money, but the man buy the ticket just some hours after the divorce. That makes her not entitled to the money at all and she was not given.

Why would you leave the country because you won huge amount of money? All countries have many cities where big people are living. Also some people may decide to stay where they are and establish business there.

If I was to be this man whose wife just divorced him few hours before he was declared the winner of that lottery, I will literally just ignore her, because for the fact that the lottery ticket was announced after the court have declared us divorce, then she will not see a penny from that $40million, because I'm very sure that If it wasn't about this lottery winning, and she was called few hours after our divorce in court that I had an accident and I was critically admitted into the hospital and needed some money for medical treatment, she would have boldly said that we are already divorced, and she wouldn't have come. But now that it involves money, she have quickly ran to court, seeking for her share of the $40millio, which is very shameful, as this reveals that she was in the marriage because of the man's money and not that she loved him.

Yea, I believe she thought he has gotten everything he can in life and it's time for her to leave him and move on with her life but nature proved her wrong and put her to shame by allowing the man to win such huge amount of money. She was caught up in her own greed immediately. The man would be very happy that she filed for divorce.

She really is for the money and doesn't want to give the man a peace that he deserves.
You agreed to marry together and both has a consent and blaming all of the years with your sacrifices, it's part of marriage.

If you're the man, what will you do?
Just for the sake of her peace, maybe I'd give her a thousand bucks.
That won't hurt the jackpot since we've been together but after hearing those words, I might reduce it  Cheesy

I literally saw this particular stuff on a couple of social media platforms some weeks ago I guess and it was a very crazy story and occurrence. One funny but interesting thing is he sued her too for a waste of his precious time and the judge just overlooked it. The lady was basically thinking sympathy would overshadow law.

This kind of wins are very rare which is why I constantly say gambling is too dependent on luck for you to ignore and push the idea of strategy.

The news reminds me of a 2019 Spanish film titled in English If I Were Rich, although I would have titled it "If I Were a Rich Man" because it is assumed that the title precisely alludes to the famous song. Maybe there's another movie in English that's titled, and they were forced to call it differently.

The fact is that in this movie the husband wins the lottery before the divorce, so he has to cheat and hide so as not to share the prize with his future ex-wife, which leads him to very funny situations. I recommend it if you didn't know it.

The video has been circulating for two weeks now or so if I'm not mistaken, that woman is a selfish person and women generally are selfish people.  According to what he said in court, he has been providing for her ever since they were married and he was no longer providing for her as he used to do due to some financial challenges she then decide to divorce him to go look for some else who would give her the luxury lifestyle she wanted.  I don't know why women are like this, whenever the man they are with goes broke be it their husband or boyfriend they don't longer feel like continuing with the man again which is very bad.

Hmm, if that ticket was actually purchased about 3 hours after divorce was finalized, then there is generally strong argument for viewing it as new asset acquired after divorce. Just because you lived together during marriage doesn't automatically make your jackpot won later marital property. However, if there is any pending financial claim, alimony or undisclosed marital asset issue in divorce settlement then that is separate legal matter.

I know of a similar case, in Rhode Island Supreme Court case, where ex-husband claimed $4 million lottery ticket purchased more than 20 days after their divorce was finalized. But court ultimately upheld that winning as the winner's own property.

If you're the man, what will you do?
I'll pay her compensation for the 7 years that she has served me. So that there will be no more heartache on her part, as well as for me. Am I this kind? Maybe not really, because I don't want someone thinking about such things against me. And I will have her sign an NDA that there's no more connection between us if the marriage has already been void and we're divorce. But unfortunately, I am from a country where there's no divorce but only annulment which could be the same as the effect of it. Yet, it will take a lot of time and money in the court for it to be approved with certain conditions.

Well, it is a simple thing, a divorce comes with a paper work or something that's been documented and as such it proves that they are no longer together. She has no right to claim his money or any property if she hasn't mad any requests prior to the divorce. This is clearly a sense of entitlement and she is just furious and unable to deal with the fact that the person she was married to years ago is now rich. if I were in this situation I don't think I will worry too much about it, I just need to have good lawyers by my side and with such an amount that would be able to afford.

I don’t even think there is a case here, the divorce was finalized before the man won the money, that means they are no longer married when the man won the money, and she can’t get any share from the money. I don’t even know how some ladies think, she claimed she stood by the man for 7 years, why is it that she didn’t continue to stand by the man? If the man didnt win the amount she won’t come back for the man, honestly the woman deserves nothing, the man is not suppose to give her any amount of money, the court should just dismiss the case.

I think it is unfortunate for the woman that her husband won such a big jackpot right after she got divorced. Now if the woman claims that jackpot then if the husband does not give it then there is nothing she can do. If she cannot show any proof legally that she is entitled to that money, then there is no benefit. It can be said that it is nothing but unfortunate for the woman. However, if it happens that the money used at that time was the woman's money then she can be given a part of that money, but the problem is that when a personal relationship with someone goes to the worst stage then only things like divorce happen. So, if you ask me what I would have done then I would have said that if he had any money then I would have given a part otherwise I am not obliged to give.

If possible, she will remarry him, hhh. We all know the woman was so greedy and had no shame in her eyes when she demanded her share of the winnings. Although the amount was won by the man and she got divorced from him, she has no claim to the money as per the law after the divorce.

So what I will do is flee to another country or hide in the hills and enjoy my independence and the money. One more thing, I will switch off my phone so that no one can reach me by signals, hhh.
