I dont know if this was posted here before, but if it ws i will lock this topic asap. There's a video circulating on social media lately about a woman who took her ex-husband to court for her own share of the $40 million lottery he won 3hours later, after their divorce was finalized. The woman claimed she suffered with the man for 7 years, while she also gave up her career to support the man during those 7 years, but the ex-husband dont buy it and said she was interested in the little money he had now his lottery jackpot winnings after they had already divorced. If you're the man, what will you do? Source

If you're the man, what will you do?
Fleeing the country with all my money, obviously. That woman does not have any shame, and she is one of the reasons why there are so many men who don't want to get married so their wives would have a chance to financially screw them over. If the divorce is finalized, it means all assets were already divided and it is the end of the marriage and all legal bond there was between those two people. It is rather ridiculous this woman believes she is entitled to whatever that man won after getting away from her. The scariest part is that with the state of laws in the west, there could be some judge and jury which may side with the woman. Men always seem to be victims with comes to divorce and assets reassignment.

I saw it few weeks ago I think on YouTube, but I do not think it was discussed on this forum. Or maybe there was a discussion about it that have a source to YouTube but I could not remember. The man won the lottery after the divorce and the women lost the lawsuit because of that.
There was evidence that the man played the lottery just few hours after the divorce and won huge amount of money from the lottery.
I am just happy for the man that the woman divorced him before he earned life fortune.

I don't think personal opinions would matter in something like this. There should be a law that focuses on it and checks when the ticket was bought. That would determine whether it's marital property or something else. Those hours would be crucial. There would be different legal outcomes if it has different times. Hmm. I hope it works out well with whoever deserves it

I saw the story too, It was a good thing that there was receipts for the lottery ticket purchase, which he did after the divorce settlement had been done. The woman has no right to the money as she already does not want to continue being his partner, she should be satisfied with whatever the settlement was between them at the time of divorce, not lay claim to something that has happened after the divorce. I think the man can on his own decide to just give the woman some money for the love they shared if it was ever real, based also on what he sees fit, not the court ordering him to do so to the lady that is no longer his wife.

@suzanne5223, if this story is true, I honestly don't think the question of, is she his ex-wife or not, is the most important. It's important to look at exact time the divorce was legally final and exact time the lottery ticket was purchased. It seems a bit simplistic to me to say ex-wife can claim based on difference of few hour.
Actually, everyone gets the dramatic part of this story, but in the end, document and jurisdiction speak for themselve. It's actually difficult to give any confident conclusion about who is entitled to jackpot without knowing which country's law is applying. Also we have to know what terms were in divorce decree or property settlement and whether marriage was legally terminated at the time that ticket was purchased.

I seems I have read this topic somewhere and I can't remember again, but there's no exact previous subjects that matched this one, however, the only similar discussion I found was What will you do if you’re on his shoe?. In this case, if the claims of the woman was correct that she has actually suffered and supported the man in their years of being married, then the man should just give her some share, it doesn't matter whether they were divorced or not, but even if am in his shoes and then the matter is already in court, then it's left for the judge to make the final decision, depending on what wins the case.

Since, the divorce has already taken place before the bet, she is a loser and have nothing to take from the jackpot. I feel that, it might be the woman that has been giving the man bad luck which made him unable to become successful but after the divorce, the bond was broken and he got financial freedom.
Women and money. I believe she have no shame for coming back to claim she has right to part of her ex-husband wins.

If you're the man, what will you do?
Of course, I'd go abroad and enjoy the money and find a more sensible woman. $40 million is a lot of money to spend in a third-world country. I'd just choose a more secure one and spend my time enjoying life there. My life and my money are simply too precious to be wasted on an ungrateful woman. Rather than giving her a single cent, I'd rather spend it on a dog.

If you're the man, what will do?
To me there's no case here, she won't see a dime from me, even if she goes to court she won't win the case, she isn't nobody to me by law, I own her nothing, let her go to hell, some women are only with you when you have the moment things goes bad they will turn their backs against you, that's the situation here, she's not a good wife, maybe she divorce because the man was in a tough time, now he knows the man had won huge sum of money she want a share. If am the one, I'll not even answer her, it's 100% my money, I'll not share with her, she's a big lover, I'll rather give to other women than her, this will be my time to invest and travel around the world just to recover from her and the marriage. If the man never won she won't return to demand for any money, I blame the man for telling her or making it public about the win, he might do it to pepper her but it back fire.

SourceI saw something like this online as well, I was just too angry at the demands of the lady despite separation from the man, it's the audacity for me, I think I got angry and didn't finish the story. According to the account, the divorce proceedings were finalised and signed around 9am and the man bought the lottery tickets just some minutes to 12pm which is a clear indication that the tickets were bought after the divorce with his own money and not hers. I got angry at the proceedings because it was clear evidence from the time stamp on the ticket that the ticket was bought hours after finalising the divorce and the case should have been dismissed, I wonder why they were taking too much time. She was even making some ridiculous claims that the numbers he picked rhymed with their wedding dates, important dates or something like that, very ridiculous and annoying claims.

I'm guessing the man had no more money before the divorce, too many females are not safe for male gender honestly and I don't care if anyone comes for me because of this.
I used to believe in love stories but this same love is one of the rarest things in the world, a male comes from a different family and also the female, they are never bond by blood to say the truth, this alone should be at the back of every smart man's mind.
Women finds it extremely easy to replace you once your pocket is down or drained, fake love is filled in today's world than the past years since things are getting tougher, money rocks the world, the only thing they bow to is money not love.

I would have to answer based on our culture and the ways of handling things. At first, they had already divorced and there is no connection between them, in fact we would have to consider one or two things base on if they already had any children in between their two. If yes, then it's the duty of the man to at least reward the woman with little any little amount or even giving them around 10-20 percent of the total money won to a sustain and take care of their children. This is well understood based that she's with their baby after divorced, but in scenario where they had nothing after divorced then I don't think there is any need for the man to share the money among the his divorced wife. Because if it happens that the man was dead there is no way that the woman would want to die with the divorced husband after knowing that there is nothing in common with them.

If you're the man, what will you do? SourceHow both parties treat each other after the divorce matters. If the separation was acrimonious and they parted on bad terms, the man wouldn't give the woman anything. If I were in his shoes—even if we had parted on bad terms—I would have given at least a million dollars, given the huge sum I’d won. Just so she could live comfortably for the rest of her life. If what the woman says is true, they spent about seven years together, and they surely shared plenty of ups and downs during that time. By the way, the man was lucky in two respects. Had he won the lottery before the divorce, his wife would have been entitled to half the prize money. As it stands, she has no legal right to anything. If I were the man, I would have given at least a million dollars.

I don't know how some people reason. You divorced your husband, and you want a share of the money he won from the jackpot to be shared with you. To me, that's stupid.
I like how the woman's husband is not buying the idea that the woman has a share of his 40 million jackpot win. I think the judge who is in charge of the case gave the verdict in favor of the man that the divorce was finalized, and the ex-husband bought the jackpot tickets 3 hours later, around 12:30pm

This is funny!! This woman deserves an award for being the fastest gold digger in the history of mankind. She willingly divorced the guy when he was still a regular dude, but the exact second $40 million jackpot dropped into his account, a few hours later, she now has a sharp memory of how she suffered for 7 years with him and gave up her career. The ink on the divorce papers has not even dried up yet and she has run back to court all because she wants a piece of the pie. Seriously, all these shenanigans make you wonder if all these entitled women want marriage in the first place or are just waiting for the free lottery ticket so they can cash out.

I think he did the right job because the woman came after him because he won the jackpot lottery otherwise she would not even care about him. If she suffered with him for years then she should've taken action before winning of lottery not after winning of it. So I think the woman wasn't interested to the man but she only wanted the money and that's why the judge has done good judgement.

If you're the man, what will you do? SourceBut one thing I would have fact checked first. I couldn't find any reliable court record or established news report in online about this $40 million lottery story. It is maybe a viral claim circulating on various social media. So I cannot take it as any confirmed real court case. Anyway, if he really bought that ticket 3 hours after their divorce was final, then I would never have personally given her any money just because of the I was with you for 7 years argument. I value about love and trust before money, since she cant hold trust on me then she doent deserve it.

Imagine winning the lottery twice in the same day! Sounds like that women was evil. She got her divorce and it immediately blew up in her face. Then she decides that she still wants his money… Gotta love the instant regret of a woman who married for reasons other than love. Karma is a fickle bitch. Lol
