And another web service that doesn't know to secure funds in a cold wallet.

After all the hacks, you'd think this would be common sense by now.

Idiots.

Well, maybe it is just a good excuse "we are very sorry, yes, we are idiots and we were hacked" as it is very convenient, any service with common sense did it, so honestly I don't believe in was simply insecure, probably it was planned.

Anyone that kept BTC in a nicehash wallet lost ALL of their BCH and BTG to nicehash after the hardforks. Nicehash didn’t blame the BCH and BTG on maintenance or a hack, they kept it for themselves. If that didn’t raise any red flags, the emptying of ALL nicehash wallets of BTC should be the triple whammy wake up call. Hope I’m wrong and Nicehash returns BTC, BCH, and & BTG to the original and rightful owners, but my gut tells me they will returning nothing earned nor bought to any nicehash users after last night's maintenance.

Its your fault to keep your btc in Nicehash before fork if you hope to earn BCH or BTG, its not their responbility to honor that. They not coin exchanger.
BUT... if you lost your btc than its ABSOLUTELY nicehash fault, whatever the reason is.

Official press release regarding the NiceHash security breach

Unfortunately, there has been a security breach involving NiceHash website. We are currently investigating the nature of the incident and, as a result, we are stopping all operations for the next 24 hours.

Importantly, our payment system was compromised and the contents of the NiceHash Bitcoin wallet have been stolen. We are working to verify the precise number of BTC taken.

Clearly, this is a matter of deep concern and we are working hard to rectify the matter in the coming days. In addition to undertaking our own investigation, the incident has been reported to the relevant authorities and law enforcement and we are co-operating with them as a matter of urgency.

We are fully committed to restoring the NiceHash service with the highest security measures at the earliest opportunity.

We would not exist without our devoted buyers and miners all around the globe. We understand that you will have a lot of questions, and we ask for patience and understanding while we investigate the causes and find the appropriate solutions for the future of the service. We will endeavour to update you at regular intervals.

While the full scope of what happened is not yet known, we recommend, as a precaution, that you change your online passwords.

We are truly sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused and are committing every resource towards solving this issue as soon as possible.

4700 BTC, that is almost more than 67 million dollars. This will be a big hit to Nicehash and mining community in general, people favoed NiceHash due to it being easy to start with but after this, I have no clue, if someone wants to create NiceHash-like website, I think you can count me in.

External wallets funds were compromised too or only NH internal wallets?

Oh, sorry for bothering NH staff, they're too busy right now in Bahamas or buying Lambos. Grin

if someone does you can count me OUT Cheesy
tho i have to admit they helped newbies get into mining, it killed it for the actual miners :/
profits have dropped, new coins get doggypiled if nicehash algo, having no chance off the bat (roicoin for example)
Profits have never been as good as since they went down for the rest of us
now maybe those 200 pop-up "GPU MINING" pages on facebook can stop spamming how they bought a buncha equipment to mine nicehash and dont know how to use it Cheesy

"You don't control the keys, you don't control the coins"  -Satoshi Nakamoto

And anyone using them, well, Nicehash had the keys....      Sad   Sad   Sad
i gave up on them months ago there after they admitted their 2FA wouldnt save an attacker from emptying your wallet thru orders (they changed it since but i realized who they were that day)

~Got this girl in my bed, a roof over my head, i mint a couple coins a week, and thats how i make bread~
~On the 12th day of Hatzvah, OGminer said to me: "compute root of the merkle hash tree!"~

made a test transfer first before sucking it all out....guess they have the luxury of time to carefully secure their funds lol

https://twitter.com/Alpha_Miner/status/938509346601820160

my dashboard tab was open yesterday so i was able to screenshot even when nicehash was down.

here is my loss..must be a little bit higher now since BTC went up

i'm very late to try nicehash, got my first 1000$ and then this loss....was thinking maybe i should wait for 1000$ before withdrawing...well nicehash withdrew first!
