one of the honest coins in the world of scams.

Thank you. It's good to see people appreciate this instead of always trying to jump onto the latest P&D Smiley

Hello everyone, I need a little assistance...

I've got an old XMR wallet, and the keys file, but I can't seem to get it to open in the new version...

I don't recall having a password, but every time I tried to load the wallet, it asked me for one... I tried every possible one that I could think of to no avail... but like I said, I didn't remember having to put a password on it, and I thought that if I had the keys file I would always be able to get into the wallet. So I backed that up.

Can anyone help me to recover the funds that are in this wallet? It isn't a ton, but it's something, that I was planning on saving for a long time, just wanted to make sure that I could still access it.

I would really appreciate any assistance with this, have always really liked XMR, would be sad if my little mined wallet from a few years back won't be able to do what I wanted for it.

Thanks!

You are right that the keys file is what you need. The .keys file is encrypted by your password, this happens at the time of wallet generation, it's not possible to make a wallet without a password in simplewallet. Maybe you put a really basic password "password" on the wallet? Unfortunately passwords like that are the ones easily forgotten.

If it does become worth it there is the wallet recovery services guy, I don't know that he supports Monero right now but I imagine with the recent sea change that there will be a demand for him to brute force a monero wallet. He asks for 20% of the wallet if it is recovered.

Have you tried x
I think it was used/suggested in one of the the original wallet setup guides.

Release the kraken Cool

Kraken? Like the exchange? If they add this to their coin offerings that would make XMR look more legitimate. Maybe a better exchange for this is BTCe. They do not collect documents and it would be best to use them or Shapeshift if you want to keep your anonymity online.

...

You mean to say when I use the light wallet I would also have to open simplewallet.exe in the console at the same time? I do not get it. I thought you only open the light wallet and do everything from there.

Lightwallet uses simplewallet behind the scenes, but you shouldn't have to do anything special to get it to save. After it completes the sync it will issue a save command every few minutes, or there is a button to save it on the wallet tab. Initially it says "Not saved Sad" in red, but should change to something green when it successfully stores the wallet.

Yes it said that it already saved and the color changed to green. So I closed the wallet and the reopened it then it started to sync again from 0. I was using Windows 64bit. Maybe it needs a little tweaking. Anyway I will try again using Linux later tonight if I have the time.

Weird. I've tested it more on Windows than Linux for sure. Are you launching from a different directory or something from command line or something?

I put all the required DLL, simplewallet.exe and lightwallet.exe in one directory and started it from there. Is there something wrong if I do that?

I think btce is a perfect match for monero.  If we can just keep a decent fraction of current volume I think most exchanges will be working on integration.  It is a bit of a challenge.

bullshit polo insider whalebot trading as usual with outside btc coming in to play
same ol' story in crypto that will crate a shitload more bagholders
darkmarket blahblahblah just good 'hype' news for the whales to play off
congrats if you sold on this ride, i had some old xmr sitting around since like 330k so was nice to offload it FINALLY.  don't get caught holding the bag on this one cuz it will be heavy when these whales drop it hard.
otherwise this will dump (maybe not to previous levels) but it will (as they all do) given this manipulation crap

https://mymonero.com/  ever compromised?
I deposited  more than 10K xmr on mymonero last year, I forgot the last time I logged-in my wallet, it's been a long time.
but today,  I logged-in and found all xmr was stolen on yesterday,
I have no idea how the hacker steal my xmr...
Any advice for me?

Please lay out screenshots, for without them, little hard to believe.

vphen is in contact with me, can confirm that it appears his Monero was swiped. This is not the first time this has happened, previous instances have resulted from bad Tor exit nodes, rootkits, private keys stored in Word documents, and other malware that targets Monero. Suffice it to say, if the DNMs are waking up to Monero's usefulness now, malware authors have been aware of it for a while (see: the botnets that have been mining Monero for a couple of years already).

PLEASE treat MyMonero as you would a normal wallet. If you would only carry $150 comfortably in cash in your actual wallet, then you should only keep like 40 XMR in your MyMonero wallet. For cold storage, use MoneroAddress or simplewallet offline on an air-gapped computer, and follow the instructions that have been detailed before.
There is malware specifically targeting a web wallet for Monero? And there is no official GUI wallet?
Things that make you go hmm...

Is there a way to get rid of these animals?
We enjoyed two years of interesting, informative discourse when the coin was small.
A little success brings an inundation of blithering idiots who scream "pump and dump!" with Doritos crumbs clinging to their lips.
