Is there a way to get rid of these animals?
We enjoyed two years of interesting, informative discourse when the coin was small.
A little success brings an inundation of blithering idiots who scream "pump and dump!" with Doritos crumbs clinging to their lips.

As you correctly say success brings any sort of people willing to gravitate nearby.
This is a Bitcoin discussion forum and the good old Bitcoin had (has) the same issue since it passed the $1 mark. Nothing can be done, this is how it goes. What is happening here is really a tiny fraction of what Bitcoin suffers every single day.  Smiley

I want to sell some monero but the simplewallet is taking forever to refresh. Anyone know how to skip this refresh part or make it faster?

Monero "supporters" have been doing it to them for years. Roll Eyes We just getting a little bit of comeuppance. Enjoy it. It's a good sign.
Pass the Doritos.

You got the point, I think this issue is very possible, government may ban it or dash in the future, if the market cap is big enough to let them notice monero

Well, last year there were several news articles mentioning authorities (EU for example) trying to find ways to make crypto currency transactions transparent as to make sure it can be integrated in the current financial regulatory system, with Monero this would be impossible, then on top of it it gets used on the dark markets, it's not hard to imagine that eventually this project might get into trouble. On the other hand ofcourse there are huge potential gains to be made, so yeah high risk, and also high reward, like a lot of projects in crypto.

I like to speculate

Hi,

I wonder if anyone tried to use any virtualization soft for mining? For example, openVZ etc. It is interesting if several VE running miner are more profitable than one that run on a server?

While a "ban" would be a pain in the you-know-what, it isn't going to kill the coin outright.
But the possibility of an outright attack perpetrated by the NSA worries me.
Everybody who can run a node should do so.  We need hashing power.

A ban really won't do shit. Monero isn't being exchanged for fiat, at least for the vast majority of users buying. Bitcoin was really fucking hard to buy when the silk road started. The fact you can buy Bitcoin so easily and then use it to buy XMR very easily makes a "ban" unlikely to happen and even more unlikely to succeed. As for 51% attacks on the network, they didn't do it to Bitcoin when the silk road was in the news with politicians crying for "justice" like Chuck Schumer who I can thank for getting me into Bitcoin, thanks Sen. Chuck for your tirade I never heard of Bitcoin before that lol.

I don't think you need to worry about attacks, at least not publicly like an outright ban. I think anyone promoting that is spreading FUD or just naive. Doesn't mean there aren't risks, but there are risks and there is FUD...

xmr.link openalias site and service definitively dead ?

Can't remember who ran that service but it is probably better to set up your own open alias on your own domain if you wish to use it. Imagine if a lot of people started using a service like that, all it takes is a successful hack to switch all the addresses and maybe they steal some XMR before it gets noticed.

Thank you. Is there a simple guide to install this function on my own domain ?

What wallets accept openalias address format ? Mymonero ? Lightwallet ? Other ?

Thanks

MyMonero and simplewallet do for certain. Not entirely sure about Lightwallet, but I expect so because it simply is a wrapper of simplewallet.
