Just wanted to let you know that I launched a new asset on the Nxt Asset Exchange. It's called LINKBUILD and it's a crowdfunding campaign for my new linkbuilding management tool (to get better SEO). The asset will pay dividends and we want to launch it for everyone. Hope I can get your support.

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

You are not alone who doesn't, i understand Nxt and it's good enough for me.
Janus may be the best thing since sliced bread but when I don't understand I don't invest in the thing Smiley

Janus is making use of Nxt blockchain and moves to Ardor as a child chain when this goes live in Q3 this year.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1677509.0

Janus made betterbets.io and are working on other web applications that connect to the blockchain or not (depends on the sort of site)
With investing in Janus you can earn dividends that are payed in Janus token.

This is what i understand about it.

Nxt is a blockchain platform that is here since 2013 with great builtin features.

Ardor is an improved version of Nxt which solves scalability and bloat issues every blockchain project faces and no one except Ardor solved. With ARDR tokens you secure the network by forging and earn the transactions fees of all child chain bundlers  (new role in Ardor)

IGNIS is the first child chain of Ardor platform which mainly will be used by the community and devs.
If you hold your NXT during the single snapshot on Ardor mainnet live that you will get free 0.5 IGNIS tokens for every NXT held.
1NXT = 1NXT + 0.5 IGNIS

Hope this helps a bit.

Hello, it's not secure to use a remote node. You should run your own on localhost.
If there is no choice, you can try your luck with one of nodes listed at http://peerexplorer.com/nodes
remote nodes have *OpenAPI tag, but try not to log with passphrases with large amounts of coins. Remote nodes can be malicious and can steal your passphrase. That's why your own local node is always recommended to be safe.

No idea what Janus is but the whole NXT/Ardor/Ignis thing was confusing the heck out of me for a very long time. That is, until I found this thread on Reddit. It's a long read but it's quite a good explanation of the differences between NXT and Ardor (and Ignis):

Quote from: marenkar
Ardor is a blockchain ecosystem where people can create their own child chain. It's like being able to clone a blockchain and starting your own, but much easier and without the need to worry about having enough nodes to secure it, all while having lots of features readily available to you.

Ignis is a child chain on Ardor. It's like what the other child chains will be, just with a lot of users starting off from launch. It solves the problem that the Ardor main chain will be stripped down to the bare minimum and thus won't have all of the features. Meanwhile, Ignis will have the features that you can find on Nxt today. The Ardor main chain will be where transaction processing for all child chains, including Ignis, will happen.

I guess if one were to visualize it, it would kinda be like a human being. Ardor is the body minus the limbs and Ignis is an arm. Blood is pumped to the arm from the heart as well as has its sensory functions processed by the brain. Meanwhile, the arm can do all the cool things like draw, type, wave, shake hands, etc.
The brain doesn't want to waste storage capacity so it doesn't remember the details of its actions after a while. But, if the arm wanted to, it could write a diary of its actions.

I can't seem to come up with the right words in my head, but Ignis will sort of be the main attraction child chain for Ardor. If Ardor was launched with no child chain, there wouldn't really be much to see and nothing to show to potential people who would be interested.

More child chains on Ardor = more demand for ARDR to pay processing fees.
Also, ARDR might be more demanded by users who wish to forge because it's 100% PoS. More ARDR = higher chance of processing the block and then getting the transaction fee, which is a bundle of all the child chains combined.

Quote from: marenkar
Nxt is a blockchain while Ardor is a blockchain ecosystem. Ardor and Nxt are separate so Ardor and Nxt will be independent of each other. Nxt has a lot of features to run projects on, as I've included in my original response, and you need NXT to run them. Creating a child chain will be expensive, so for projects that don't need to have a child chain to themselves, Nxt would be the better option. Same reason why one would drive a car for 15 minutes to a shop instead of hopping on a helicopter.

Nxt remains as the tried and tested system that has existed for about 3 years. Companies, assets, other coins, and projects like Debune, LQD, OpenTrade Docs, and NAUT currently operate on/using the Nxt blockchain. Some people have stated a preference on using a tried-and-tested system for their projects so I expect Nxt to continue to be used down the road, on top of not every project needing their own child chain.

As for the economic value of Nxt, I've touched on it a bit above. It is solid and has loads of good features. I'm not saying Ardor isn't, but some people need all the documentation, references, etc. I'm not a core dev, or a dev at all, so I'm not so sure about the details on that bit. But I do know that businesses that run important stuff would pick a system with years of experience over a newer one when both can do exactly what they need to be done.

So Ardor is sort of like a body minus the limbs. The limbs are the child chains, of which Ignis is one such limb. The child chains have their own currency (e.g. IGNIS) but transact with the Ardor main chain using ARDR to pay fees. So lots of child chains = more demand for ARDR = higher ARDR price.

NXT is completely separate from all of this but it will continue to be maintained in parallel with Ardor (and its child chains). Meanwhile, companies that wish to use a tried-and-tested tech would continue to stick with NXT.

EDIT: According to wolffang, Janus seems to be another child chain built on Ardor. So sort of like another limb, I guess.

Possibly. Never enter sensitive data on a website you don't trust.

Unfortunately, MyNxt wallet registrations seem to be disabled currently.

What about running your own node?

There is another option that does not require you to run a full node and download the blockchain. You can run the Nxt Client in light mode.

1) Get the latest Nxt Client from https://nxt.org/download/

2) When installed/unzipped, create a file called nxt.properties inside of the folder nxt/conf (if you're using Windows, I think that is in C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Nxt Wallet ). Any configuration entries in this file will override the defaults stored in nxt/conf/nxt-default.properties

3) Add this line to the file:
Code:
nxt.isLightClient=true

When you run the Nxt Client with this option, it will run from the first start in Light mode only, this is, not downloading the blockchain at all. It retrieves the data from public nodes, and will submit locally signed transactions to public nodes. This is safer than just using a remote client, because in this case all the wallet code is loaded from the files installed in your computer, so there's no risk that the code could be rigged.

On the original post of this thread there are multiple links not working (Facebook group, whitepaper) would be nice to see this fixed.

Furthermore, I'm thinking about buying some Nxt, anyone has some convincing arguments for me?  Wink

FYI, newcomers!
Did you know you can mine NXT (and buy Ardor with it on the Nxt Asset Exchange!) in the Lucky node project?
Computational and bandwidth requirements are very low - some users run it on a Raspberry Pi.
Run the node 24/7 or as often as you can while you work or play.
Join in with the over 100 nodes that are already in the project.

The Wikipedia article for NXT seems to be a bit outdated. For example, there is no mention of Ardor/NXT 2.0 and child chains.

People are working on it since a few days. Do you have time to help?
