The online wallet link (https://wallet.mynxt.info/) doesn't open though. It worked a few hours ago, it doesn't now....

You're right, the wallet site is down. I've sent them a PM.

Not exactly a confidence-inspiring situation in this day and age...

Yes but nothing to worry about, these things happen from time to time. Here are the latest news about it:

Quote
Apparently there's been a network problem with a datacenter affecting multiple servers, among them the MyNxt wallet server which is currently down. I've forwarded a report to the hoster support and I expect to hear back from them this morning.

I'm sorry about the inconvenience but there's nothing else we can do right now but wait for a bit. Although if the response is not fast enough, we'll surely consider changing the hosting environment.

In any case, please don't worry - your Nxt accounts and the Ardor snapshots are not affected by this outage. We'll report as soon as the server is back up.

There was a hardware type of failure in the hosting service, also causing performance issues in the server. It was fixed and we'll be looking into hosting alternatives so this kind of problem does not happen again.

MyNxt is a free service, in continuous development by people who basically do volunteer work right now. For the peace of mind of people using the wallet service, rest assured that daily database backups are made so even in the case of a long blackout, and even in the case of users who have never backed up their MyNxt wallet, no accounts would be lost - the only essential security step to make sure that your MyNxt wallet account is safe involves keeping your master password in a secure location.

http://nxt.org/roadmap/ On 12 Oct the ARDR assets (on the NXT blockchain) are distributed amongst NXT holders. Ardor testnet will be launched early Q1. About 6 months later mainnet goes live, ARDR assets are replaced by Ardor tokens, and the first child chain will be launched and tokens distributed amongst NXT holders. So that's Q3 for actual Ardor launch.

Here's an update from the site operator of wallet.mynxt.info:

A little update.

Last night the hoster of the wallet server performed extensive checks in the hard drives and early today they reported that no errors had be found, so we tried to bring up the server again. It worked for a bit but then started again to fail with the same I/O errors, so the MyNxt wallet needs to stay in maintenance for a bit longer. The hoster will do now a full hardware check in the server to isolate once and for all what the issue is, we'll report as soon as it has been fixed.

Again apologies for the down time, hardware issues are a pain specially since there's hardly anything we can do remotely.

I know it's a pain in the ass but please keep in mind that this is a free service run by volunteers, not a multi-million dollar business. At least the wallets and their balances are kept safe as they do regular backups. They are actively looking into other hosting options right now to avoid such outages in the future.

Then, perhaps, since the service is offered in the website, someone should contract a reliable one instead of leaving it to amateurs. I mean, this gives an extremely poor technological look to the whole project, don't you think? We are talking something very, very, VERY basic here that every other coin, much below the standards of NXT, has been successfully offering for months if not years already.
