The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

Hello BlackCoin team and community, I'm from the SolarCoin team, and we're excited to let you know that SolarCoin (SLR) will be switching to Proof of Stake using the BlackCoin v. 2.0 codebase in about 30 days. We chose BlackCoin PoS v. 2.0 for our new codebase because in our opinion it is the best, most secure version of PoS out there, and we are impressed with the continual improvements being made to your coin. SolarCoin is currently a PoW coin with a gradually falling block reward over the next 30 days. The block reward is 87 per block right now and will fall -3 each day until it reaches 1 SLR per block and then we will switch to PoS minting at a 1% annual interest rate. SolarCoin is a currency that rewards solar energy generators with grants of 1 SLR for each 1 Megawatt-hour of verified solar electricity generated. Our ultimate goal is for solar panels to transmit electricity generation data directly into the blockchain and automate the granting process with smart contracts. One SolarCoin investor who owns a solar energy company in Japan is working on creating a prototype of a solar installation that can do this. We invite you to check out the exciting developments in SolarCoin on our discussion thread at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=785257.0A big thank you to the BlackCoin team and community for everything you're doing to develop your coin and make it one of the best PoS cryptocurrencies out there. Keep up the great work! The SolarCoin team will be following your continued progress with great interest. Best wishes, Eric Stetson Board Member The SolarCoin Foundation solarcoin.org

Don't forget... with that kind of move ( POS 3.x ), you can be pretty sure many eyes are on us...
Rat4 addressed a big issue with POS 2.x. When I see IO's "POS 3.x" it just looks like some slightly tweaked version of POS. I don't see security improvements. I don't see how it makes POS better. It makes it different. But more secure or better? I'll need to see a real technical "white paper" to make a better judgement. And different also means there could be new security holes that weren't present before. Rat4 might as well release a POS 2.1 because I just don't see BlackCoin adopting their POS system ever. Up until now, BlackCoin has proven to be secure anyway. So I don't think they eyes are on BlackCoin at all to respond to this.

The IOcoin POS 3.0 essentially changes block time and block reward. Now, whether a change in parameters, "endorsed" by the BlackCoin Dev rat4 qualifies as a 2.1 or 3.0 is open to much debate. It is a hardfork so I'll leave it up to you to decide. Nothing that has been done to IOcoin POS will be done to BLK. Ultimately these various coins will survive by their use cases. This is where any coin has the chance to thrive and survive. Robust, regularly maintained and developed technologies will win out. Adapting, if necessary, to the environment they find themselves in. SOLARcoin Good luck guys, glad to see you chose wisely Don't forget to visit our reddit thread too! http://www.reddit.com/r/blackcoin

Ultimately these various coins will survive by their use cases.
The use case of any coin our little friend wizfarm/mctaino is involved in (since he parted ways with the BC community) is to be pumped as much as possible, nothing else. If someone does not know that, they will likely have no clue what PoS is as well. Meanwhile: BlackHalo/D. Zimbeck in Vegas

We do what we can for David, but his project is his own and he has sought his own funding. There are many other initiatives that are important for infrastructure (for instance mobile wallets) that need to be created, outside of the scope of what David and them do. They are just one group working on valuable BlackCoin services. But we need many more!

* Projects should be funded by using Halo, once it's open sourced ( and also be transparent in terms of who is contributing / participating ) * Developers should be retributed by using Halo, once it's open sourced * Halo should respect it's engagements to supposedly go Open Source, now that it's out of beta. Or at least communicate on some ETA. * My guess is that, if one person can develop a piece of software like this one in, let's say 1.5 month ( without even knowing the Python language prior to it ) Why wouldn't a team of 3 or 4 confirmed developers be able to code it in a fair shorter amount of time ? Seems doable...

Also, after all this promotion around the planet + "viral" marketing,
shouldn't we have lot's of new adopters coming here asking for a bunch of silly questions, as in the beginning ?
McKie: Sorry but, you're kind of obviously seeking for fresh new ideas in a desperate way, maybe to attract new people and make this community revive. If not, maybe can you just name a few distinguishable existing projects or ideas you've had had, and for which you'd like new devs to be working on.

I think you are underestimating how much effect the current "Bitcoin implosion" does have on all the other coins. If BTC does recover it will become easier for serious/established altcoins as well, if BTC becomes/stays unprofitable to mine (dunno if it is still profitable, not putting any money in mining crap) nobody knows what's gonna happen to the altcoin eco system.

It seems that the next stop is $197 $200-$270 many hoarders are dumping now and the system will find a new equilibrium between difficulty and hashing power ( https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty) as many miners are going to give up and stop mining at an increasing rate as the next half-reward approaches in 2016 see here: http://bitcoinclock.com/This is probably the reason why some of the POS coins have gained some some strength lately while BTC continues to bleed. IMO the bleeding is just starting, unless the banking system and the dollar start to collapse out of the fake strength created by the war machine. If this happens then BTC will be resuscitated in one big jolt, in the mean time POS may enjoy a new invigorating force (I hope).

Could you outline some ideas for "infrastructure and services" just to give me an idea of what sorts of things the coin might need or want? Android and iOS Wallets, Lite Wallets, Exchanges, Trading Services, Pools, Games, etc. More new features that give the coin value to continue to see fresh faces. We have a few projects on the back burner atm due to lack of developers too. * Projects should be funded by using Halo, once it's open sourced ( and also be transparent in terms of who is contributing / participating ) * Developers should be retributed by using Halo, once it's open sourced * Halo should respect it's engagements to supposedly go Open Source, now that it's out of beta. Seems doable... Yes you are talking about developers, but that is what is lacking atm. I agree Halo is an excellent tool that should be utilized.
