Weird, I've got 1.9.4.0 still and no problems. Tried some of the troubleshooting tips like setting max connections to 5 (I set mine to 4 because yolo) and adding new nodes, and voila.
Cloak's gon' cloak
If you're on 1.9.4, you're on the wrong fork. You need to be on the latest wallet. 1.9.6 was a MANDATORY update. Link is in the OP. not necessarily the github repo has mandatory core protocoll changes built in but ist still 1.9.4. So I'm on 1.9.4 and on the right fork. Can you post a link to the location you downloaded 1.9.4 from (not a direct link to the download). I can't find it and I don't want to risk looking for it elsewhere and get something that isn't official.

Just downloaded the 1.9.6 & got the missing LIBEAY32.DLL notice. Quite frankly, I don't feel like troubleshooting again

? I still don't follow. How exactly VRC theft was connected to POS security?

? VRC 51% attack just became a very real scenario, they don't need half the coins... just half the staking amount, of which more than 51% was stolen. I cant say whether that is the problem cloakdevs fixed or not, but I imagine it has something to do with that. It's at least a sobering reminder to keep your coins in your wallet...

If you are on windows or macos download the latest wallet linked in the OP if on linux you download the source from the github repository and compile it yourself using "qmake" then "make". If you compile it from source it wont include cloaktrade.

Install Open SSL (or any application with this dependency, really)

Where did these details come from? check the VRC thread? wow. scary reading. Please read the entirety of this post. A few hours ago we were unfortunately the subject of a successful attack against the exchange. Our investigations have shown that whilst our security was breached, VeriCoin was the target. We would like to stress that VeriCoin and the VeriCoin network has not been in any way compromised. We have worked to secure the exchange and the withdraw process from any further attack. As it stands at the moment the following applies: 1) We lost a considerable amount of VeriCoin in the attack, however we have been working with the VRC developers and all major exchanges to hard fork the coin at a position before the attack. This will allow us to retrieve the stolen coins and facilitate all withdrawals. We are also working with various exchanges to accommodate any losses they may encouter as a result of the required fork. 2) We are currently processing withdrawals for all other coins. As I'm sure you will appreciate, our support channels will most likely be very busy over the coming hours/days so please bear with us. We would like to personally extend our thanks to the VeriCoin developers and the other exchanges who have pulled out all of the stops to ensure that your VRC funds are safe. The problem was in mintpal but it will effect mostly vericoin. I believe it won't cause significant dump after everything is fixed but who knows This reminds me never ever keep your coins on just one exchange !!

On wallet 196 for 36 hours now, minting / weight / network all ok. Stake balance zero. No unlock / lock option. What am I missing here?
Edit: Solution found. Post on forum and stake balance appears within seconds.

I feel bad for veri, but it makes me so confident I'm with the best! Cloakcoin.
Why do you think this? The theft had nothing to do with any flaw in Vericoin. It was a screwup by Mintpal. It could have been Cloakcoin, it's just there is not as much money in that currently.
