The hacker has rejected the 300 BTC from BTER. He wants more.
Greed loses. Reset the blockchain. Is there still time for that? I think that is only an option until they hit a certain block? And it's less a rollback, and more just sort of pruning, if I recall correctly. If it was up to me, I'd just go that route. NXT is sort of wrecked either way ... might as well choose the option that is the least damaging.

The proper response would be to roll back the blockchain immediately, and let either the gangsters or the police handle it, depending upon which country he is in. The hacker should not get any reward for his crime. The proper response to any attack, is to immediately counter attack with full force and ability.

So is the launch still scheduled for tomorrow?
It very depends on Bter, as they yet to start the release mainnet node integration. We are in contact with them, and will update the community regarding the status.

Just so we can all have a better idea bout things... Can you explain what is meant by "release mainnet node integration" does this mean put real crypti in even users account? What does this mean?

Bter worked with a testnet node so far, which was based on testing genesis block. They now received a mainnet node, with a real genesis block, and with some (minor) API corrections. They need to ensure their developed integration on testnet works fine in mainnet as well, and they also want to move all genesis XCR's to a cold wallet (to make sure the NXT scenario is not possible again). This all takes time, and they naturally were very busy with the security matters. They told us they will be able to start working today on this, and we are waiting for this work to start.

As we suggested before, we strongly recommend enabling the second pass phrase. This will ensure that even if someone breaks into your account, he still will need the second pass phrase to get any funds (think of it as a pin code for lost ATM card). The second pass phrase can be as long as needed, and naturally should be stored in a separate location than your account password (as you wouldn't store pin code with the ATM card).

FYI. The Bter hacker has sent more of the stolen NXT back to Bter. Seems there's some backroom dealings going on.
Oh. And XCR has creeped up. Might be some sad people for having dumped in panic.

I feel there will be a big run up in price with all those panic sellers trying to get back in as it looks like things took a turn for the best.

They said that if Bter works on it Sunday (as they said they would), then it would be Monday. Course that assumes everything goes smoothly. Bter has bigger issues to deal with right now.

Hacker already returned more than 40 million Nxt to bter. http://www.mynxt.info/blockexplorer/details.php?action=ac&ac=1244396688755618309So Bter nightmare is over. At the very worst they can cover the rest. Though the remaining 8 million even at this depressed price rate is worth over 500 BTC. Plus Bter lost all credibility -- as their security was ridiculously bad. The owner was using the same password for 90% of his logins

Beyond the launch it will be smart not to be dependent on a single exchange, especially bter.

The owner was using the same password for 90% of his logins And you know that how? Because the hacker said so? I don't think so. Each side came out with their own story about what happened and the truth is probably some where in the middle. The hacker would be of the mindset to exaggerate and brag while Bter would be trying to save face. Here's an interesting question for people. Which do you think is "safer". Working with an exchange that's been hacked and has improved their security, or one that has "never" been hacked? Cause you have to know that there are hackers out there trying to get into all of them.
