If the price of NEM ever does reach $1, of course supernodes will selling but it wont happen suddenly and people will sell in phases all the way up to that magic $1/Nem, Also the supernode fund is deep so rewards can increase as supernode numbers fall to tempt others to run one.
At that time the cost of a supernode would be $3,000,000. Perhaps the devs would reduce the minimum balance as an incentive or change the daily reward. dont forget supernodes is a temporary thing NEM is designed around harvesting tx fees supernodes only simulate tx fee income from a fund pot which when it is empty supenode payouts will stop too as i understand the supernode payout will run max 2 or 3 years in that timeframe the daily tx volume and possible to harvest fee income should generate a similar income stream never forget XEM is zero inflation there is no coins come out of nothing the supernode fund currently has 170,000,000, which would last 3+ years at the moment with a payout of 140,000XEM/day http://explorer.ournem.com/#/accountlistBut if need be Im sure this could be extended if the network is in need as they have the funds ... |

Before logging in, go to settings and use an alternate node: https://www.nodeexplorer.com/This will show you the latest block without having to download the whole blockchain, in the background the blockchain will be syncing. |

I'm planning to start local harvesting for educational purposes, but I'd really like to know if you have the minimum required to start it, which is 10k XEM, I would have any influence in the network to stand any chance to harvest something. How can I know that? I'd appreciate technical details about how it is the harvesting workflow and chances attached to an average Joe.

White paper contains all of the technical details: https://www.nem.io/NEM_techRef.pdf100k XEM is recommended, with 10k XEM it will take a lot of time to find a block. Right now there is a lot of empty blocks so harvesting isn't profitable. |

Be sure to run NIS version 0.6.84. you can also download a recent version of the chain if you want: bob.nem.ninja/nis5_mainnet-1002k.h2.db.zipotherwise you probably need to sync from scratch. |
