Well, downloaded symbol-desktop-wallet-win-0.14.0.exe and ran it.
It installed files to C:\Users\jkoil\AppData\Local\Programs\symbol-desktop-wallet\.

When started symbol-desktop-wallet\Symbol Wallet.exe from Dekstop icon, there appeared a big white window ...
no texts, no progress bars ... and it remained empty for 25 minutes. And still is empty while writing this post.

In the Task Manager there is a process 'Symbol Wallet (4)'    :     CPU-usage 0 ... 0.5 % and Memory-usage 117 MB.
It has 4 sub-processes, which are named as "Symbol Wallet".
Their Memory-usages are  21,  5,  28  and 63 MB.
Only the last sub-process has sometimes CPU-usage.

If there is a problem with the network (bad or missing connection to some 'node'), then I would wish at least something shown in the UserInterface ...


Where are the last updated guides?
I guess this https://docs.symbolplatform.com/getting-started/setup-workstation.html  was for testing and TESTNET  and I understood that it was for creating an account. But now we have already the accounts   http://report.experimental.symboldev.network/ok1.html

What did I miss now ??


Edit:  downloaded the same number 0.14.0 package, which was 9 kB bigger. The same result.
    The package 0.10.0 was at least showing something.
    These newer ones are blank.  The CPU % is 0 ... 1 % for the 3 latter processes, but mainly due the mouse movements on the window.
  

Downloaded symbol-desktop-wallet-win-0.14.1.exe and ran it.
It installed files to C:\Users\jkoil\AppData\Local\Programs\symbol-desktop-wallet\.

Directory blob_storage\212819c2*  is empty.
In the leveldb\LOG is only 3 lines:

That file is the only updated file. The rest ones in that directory are from last May.
Same case with the Session Storage.



The previously written problems exist.
Should I install something else too?

In Windows10 there appeared some note from Microsoft Defender Smartscreen. I think it came with 14.0 and also with 14.1. The note was passed and the installation continued.


Edit:  tried now again with 14.1. And reduced some security SWs from PC before installation and running.
         After 30 minutes the Wallet-window remained totally empty, not even a note that "You are missing this ..." or "Cannot connect to ...".

So just to confirm, binance will support the snapshot right?

I am sure binance will support the snapshot but i am not sure it they have announced it yet or not ?  The price of XEM is low at the moment and its best time accumulate XEM. The free snapshot coins XYM could be of good value.

I intend to keep it on some exchange. For previously planned snapshot time in January, Binance planned to stop XEM activities much earlier than Poloniex, and Bittrex didn't plan to support airdrop, so, in such scenario, there is some room for someone to drop the price while we are locked. So, I will try to choose exchange with shortest trading downtime, just to be able to react on eventual sharp drop. What do you guys think?

I do not clearly understand your point of view. Even if you keep your XEM in your private wallet, the price can still drop on exchange ? And After the snapshot XEM will dump hard as people who are accumulating the free coins, will dump them once the snapshot is over.

Price of XEM can drop even few hours before snapshot, right, especially if it goes very high. So, I would like to have possibility to stop loss in case of sharp drop, or take some profit in case of sky high. Last time Binance intended to stop trading 6-7 hours before estimated snapshot time, and Poloniex 1-2 hours before. If so, I will move my XEMs on Poloniex, for example. This was what I thought:)

The price rise of XEM will depend upon the movement of bitcoin at the time. Currently, there is no surge in XEM price because bitcoin is not stable and there is a lot of fear in the market that bitcoin might dump below 40K. If bitcoin remain stable, then we can see good price movement in XEM.

Yes, I got the same and choosed to create mnemonic on testnet to give it a try. I got XYM wallet data in pdf when opted in with XEM wallet, but didn't try to import that mnemonic, guess that one I can import after 15th March, once when Symbol mainet is up...

Yes, the real XYM mnemonic should one not use until everything is clear, because there are some unknown behaviour that produces guides like "backup your wallet before updating".

I think the rising is not over.
And it is logical, because there is time to buy XEMs, which have the characteristic "XEM => XEM + XYM".
It is the same as with the companies' shares in the stock markets; As long as the dividend is not extracted from the share, the price may rise. But after the extraction the price drops.

It is not easy to prove, because there may be people who are trying to gather more XEMs. It is not easy to buy more and still keep the price low, because there may be sellers, who have bought a lot of XEMs at 500 sat and so 1000 sat is good price to sell, and some think that the good price for them is 2000 or 3000 sat

XEM price should go parabolically up after this snapshot news. There are still 12 days in the snapshot and we can expect good return from this investment but unfortunately bitcoin is not stable is at this moment. If bitcoin keeps on dumping, it can spoil the NEM party. For altcoins to move, bitcoin needs to be stable or range bound.

There are still 12 days in the snapshot and we can expect good return from this investment but unfortunately bitcoin is not stable is at this moment. If bitcoin keeps on dumping, it can spoil the NEM party. For altcoins to move, bitcoin needs to be stable or range bound.

Unfortunately true:(. But can not control everything, I put the money where I believed (even now in very nice plus), so whatever comes....
