Am is blind or i can see that S3 is slower than S2 ? S2 is in another topic stated to mine at 1THS?

Huh?? Grin

S3 its 478GH/s @366W
S2 its 1 TH/s @less than 1100W from the wall.

I think its way better S3 because of power .S2 its entirely diffent also  different machine

Oh ok i didn't know that i guess the manufacturer is different than?

No... same manufacturer.  The difference is in the ASIC used in each machine.

By the way, you forgot to mention that the S3 is cheaper, too.

S2 - 1TH/s @ 1100W is $1625
2 S3s - 956GH/s @ 732W is ~$900

yeah, didnt think it was necessary to talk about price hehe. its a nonsense to buy S2 having S3 Grin
Absolutely true.  More power efficient, better chips, and cheaper.  S3 wins in pretty much every category... unless you absolutely need a rack-mountable 4U form factor... and I think there's a guy making such a case for the S3 blades Smiley

This is not an exact comparison. You have to add the price of either two CX600-750 or one EVGA 1300 to run two S3s, bringing the price to $1050 (still cheaper, of course). Besides, S2 is here and S3 is an unknown, but expectedly good commodity. We just don't know yet if S3 will work well, very well or excellent. In addition, S2 has the possibility of upgrade to 1.8-2TH that is "expected" in July-Aug.
Edit: Typo-S2, not S3 is upgradable to 1.8-2Th

yeah, well in my case, i had 2 Corsair CX750M from my S1´s so i didnt have to buy new PSU´s. Will just replace S1 for S3 but yeah, if i want to buy more S3 in the future, i will have to buy more Corsair

I have been keeping an eye on the new Rockminers using ASICMINER's new chip as their pre-order stats looked similar to these S3's.  Not as good, but worth keeping an eye on.
Well we can probably check the R3 and RK's off our list of alternatives.  At least for now.  They are getting panned by new users.
High rejects, on the R3 and both high rejects and low Gh/s on the RK.  Plus they suck more power and cost more per Gh/s than the S3.  Assuming the S3's stats hold up.
Not sure the Asicminer chips will be very successful.  And they could definitely use FriedCat's involvement in miner design.

asicminer chips have worse characteristics to BM1382 chip and you can see it in GH/w difference.
Whether they will be cheaper to deploy-I don't know, but i doubt it.

Here's a quick question for Bitmain. Does the S3 come with any PCIe cables?

I assume that it doesn't and that in addition to the PSU we'll need enough cables for the target hashrate and corresponding power consumption. If overclocking to the max amount, that means 4 cables (2 per S3 unit) 8 cables (4 for each S3 unit), right?

Probably most PSUs come with the cables built in. But I have no experience with the newer modular units. I'm just trying to make sure I have all the parts pulled together to hit the ground running when the S3 units arrive.

the evga 1300 has 6 cables  4 singles and 2 doubles.

use 2 singles and 1 double for each machine and you will be fine.

Thanks for the info. But I was thinking about getting 2 CX750M units. They've got 4 PCIe connectors each.

I miscounted connectors in my previous post. My assumption based on other posts was that a single CX750M with all the PCIe connectors should be enough to over clock an S3.

You are right. 1 CX750M will allow room to OC 1 S3. You could run 2 S3's at stock on one, but you would be right at the limit of the PSU.

In case anyone is interested, I downloaded Corsair's PSU Cable Guide and verified that the CX750M comes with 4 600mm (23.6") PCIe cables.

I knew that the PSU had 4 PCIe ports, but not whether they provided cables for each port (it's modular). Fortunately they do, so there's no new cables to buy to power the S3.

Now we just need Bitmain to ship Wink

Has anyone seen any reviews of the S3? I searched and didn't find any.

I would have thought that they would get pre-release versions into reviewers' hands well before shipping, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I'm not sure what to make of that, unless they are so confident that they don't need to do much marketing outreach.

They've managed to sell out 3 (?) batches with very little information.  If I were BITMAIN, I'd see no need to ship reviewers anything.

They'll probably wait to start shipping batch 1 before opening a new batch. I'm hoping batch 4 goes straight to their "ships within 48 hours" phase.

I want to buy one of these. I have a corsair power supply that i run 2x r9270's on.

Could i use this for the antminer? If so would i still be able to use both the video cards or would that be over power. I don't know anything about electricity except not to dick with it.

I would get a new power supply. Two R9 270's that are actually mining would run you around 500 (at most), but there're other components that you might want to take in a consideration. So, I would say that you wanna get a new power supply. For instance, Corsair RM850 (I run 2 S1's overclocked on this thing) will let run 2 S3's at a time, or if you want to be safe and give your psu a bit to breath, you could run 1 S3 overclocked. Hope it help.
