Antminer S3 is P2Pool Compatible as per their update in the second post of another thread.

Please quote the source where they state that.

Nowhere do they say the S3 is compatible with p2pool (or the S2 for that matter) - only that it will be compatible. I would rather buy hardware that is compatible - not that might be sometime in the future, maybe.

Herein lies the problem with pre-orders. I suggest to Bitmain that they revert back to selling in-stock equipment only so as to avoid this kind of thing happening again.

With regards to the refunding options: If the S3's are p2pool compatible then I don't mind having the 10% coupons as I will definitely be buying some more - but if they are not p2pool compatible I would prefer a refund, as I will not be buying any more. Can you please advise us on the p2pool situation asap so that we can make a decision?

Peace  Smiley

They already said they are p2pool compatible, it may take some work

Looks like they changed their tone to say "will be", one day isn't good enough for many. We heard it too many times.

Yeah I saw they changed their tune a bit. They were more positive last time I heard them speak about it.

Here it says so,
Reserved for Q&A and Updates

1. Will there be upgrade parts for S1 and S2?

Yes, there will be. But we still need to solve some production/testing problem before we finalize the plan and public it.

2. Will S3 be supporting P2pool?

Yes.

Updates:

1. The sales opening announcement and the final specs of S3: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=656461.msg7597300#msg7597300
2. The First Batch of AntMiner S3 runs out of stock. we are ready to start to sell the Second Batch of S3 at 22:00 pm on July 1st (UTM + 8 ), and drop the sales price to 0.74 BTC each with international shipping. The Second Batch is estimated to be delivered about 2-4 days after shipping of the First Batch of S3 for 0.75 BTC each, but still no later than July 20th.
3. The Third Batch of S3 sales price is dropped to 0.725 BTC each with international shipping, which will open sales at 22:00 pm on July 4th (UTM + 8 ). The Third Batch is most likely to be shipped before July 20th, but no more than one or two days delay may happen.

That means it doesn't. Read it. It is planned for the future, maybe - as PatMan said.

I find myself in the same situation - Bitmain - please verify when/if your hardware will support p2pool so that we can decide on refunds or coupons.

Thanks  Smiley

The good thing they did can't be forget.
They offered a refund for lower hash rate.
I will go for the coupon option if they are giving the 10% of current order.
Else a refund of 7.74%.

I love your optimism. I wish to happen that.
Chances are rare to have the 2nd batch and 3rd batch to be with a new DC-DC Controller. They already said the refund is for B1, B2 and B3.
From the 4th batch they have can start afresh. They may provide an upgrade option to S3 B1, 2 and 3 customers.
Where they said they are confident in B3 to give 504Ghs?
The move from 504 to 478 is due to ASIC limit and that's not reversible in my opinion.
But, as per them, 478 to 441 is due to DC-DC voltage converter. That can be corrected if they didn't manufacture/order all the PCBs and components.

1)   10.0% worth of coupon for the B1~B3 customers. This is the default option. (10% based on what you have paid for the B1~B3)

That option is great, will you put the coupons on our bitmain accounts automatically, or do we have to ask ?

Mining for fun.

Check their statement, they says they will arrange a method in their website itself for refund or coupon.
There may be a form for us to opt our choice.
It may be available after 17th soon after Batch 1 S3 shipping.

My guess would be that every account receives the coupons and if you ask them for a refund, the coupon will get deleted: simple as that.

I would also estimate that coupons should be added before the sale of the next round, which will likely be after they have shipped a significant amount of miners.

I think I saw someone earlier saying that it is p2pool compatible? Correct me if I'm wrong.

You are wrong.

Let me clarify this to save any more confusion about p2pool compatibility:

I have verified with Bitmain via email conversations that the current Bitmain firmware for both the S2's & S3's does not work with p2pool effectively or efficiently. I have also supplied Bitmain with information gathered from myself & many p2pool users as well as Kano (cgminer dev) & forrestv (p2pool dev, supposedly) in an effort to help Bitmain find a fix, and have also offered to help in any beta testing if required. This was done over two weeks ago, and there has been no news since then. Therefore, anyone wishing to buy Bitmain hardware for use with p2pool should wait until Bitmain have provided a fix, if they do.

Peace  Smiley

Sad to see spec change to lower scale when you have already purchased the miners....
off-course we would never pay more for lets say 20% increase of hashing!!!
SO testing and testing and testing then sell sell sell

That would be a logistical nightmare.

You are getting the amount of lost performance reimbursed, which should make everyone whole.

Later batches (after 3 Wink ) might get different DCDCs and therefore better performance.

If DC-DC limit is the only then we can buy a new DC-DC converter from local market.
Fixing it in place of the current DC-DC converter will not become a problem for most.
I assume most of the miners can DIY that.
For all that, we need some more information or clarification regarding this limitation or instability.
