My friend ChriX_G has a problem with his ASRock A75 Extreme6 mobo. The top pcie 1x slot does not want to work. Trying to plug a HD6970 through a cablesarus 1x to 16x with molex adapter. I have tested the adapter on one of my rigs and it does work. Has anyone had experience with this? Do you know if something on the board has to be switched off for it to work? The three slots on the MoBo are populated with 3 HD6970's if that helps. Chrix_G would have posted but he is still in the newb section.
Thanks all!

Whats the PSU and how much power does the rig take? Did you try shorting the pins? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=36061.0Other cards and risers don't work on this slot too?

I assume you tried only the x1 port alone with the other cards removed? If that works atleast you know the port isnt busted or unsupported.

May need a jumper on the pcie slot, 1x cards have them in their design, extension cables do not, haploid23 has a pic of the jumpers on his board. Do the cards work without cables?

Yes they work without the cables. Does haploid23 have pics or does he use this board? Thanks for your help!

Thanks so much I will give that a try tomorrow and let you know how it works. What gauge wire do you recommend for the jumper wire?

Doesn't matter at all. There is little current passing through that.

You don't have to put it in the slot actually you can short the pins of the extender, works the same for me and I don't have to take out some components to get a better view.

Ok first off let me know who get the bounty for the first part. I think Malev gets it let me know.
The second half of the problem. The card that is on the pcie 1x (1.1)with the jumper wire is stuck at 250gpu/81mem, and I can not adjust it. Afterburner will not adjust and neither will CCC? Any Ideas? If I try to mine with it like that it will crash the system. Thanks again guys!

Hmmm not sure, all gpus in this slot behave like that? If there were more than 4 gpus and you had 12.1 or higher drivers that would be understandable (crashing upon mining) but not the clocks.

Clean your drivers before installing 11.12 using DriverSweeper http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Driver-Sweeper.shtml (note: express uninstall all ATI software before rebooting in safe mode to do this) Also, use 4 or less GPUs when installing 11.12 from there, 1 GPU only then shutdown and connect other would be my reccomendation

Thanks ER but I tried all that. I think it has something to do with the Pcie 1x only running at 1.1 not 2.0 but I am not sure.

Thanks for the bounty Shouldn't happen but it's possible. OTOH this is a fairly new mobo, shouldn't it support 2.1? You could try with a different (newest?) BIOS but if the GPU gets recognized even by OS and drivers it, it's probably either of those two to blame. Did you try disabling any options related to the onboard GPU? Maybe it is interfering. Also unplug and disable all devices and functions that are not indispensable for mining (onboard gpu, sound, spare lan, firewire, usb, etc - everything you don't need to load OS and start mining). If that fails, try a different OS, e.g. BAMT: http://bamter.org/download.html
