I talked about it with psionin and we came to the conclusion that it might not be a good idea to change the symbol from SMC to SMART because it would be a very heavy and troublesome change. Besides wallet changes etc, it would require exchanges, market listing, block explorers and pools to change the symbol and as we all know, many of them are not very reliable and fast when it comes to such requests. After having thought about it for a while, I actually share his opinion, I just don't think it's worth all the trouble and we can't afford such trouble. At least that's my opinion.

What might we do to attract more investment in smartcoin, and move up in the rankings?

I think we need to make more people mine SMC again.

Who will start a smartcoin thread in the mining section at these forums then? I think that might help if ya want miners, then talk to them in the mining section in a smartcoin thread? what do ya think of that?
( it would be nice if someone would do that, and then post in that thread each day or two )

Well it doesn't hurt to try, doesn't matter who does it. There are so many sh*tcoins, pardon my french, being actively traded. SMC is underrated a lot, we also need to spread SMC among other mining pools, exchanges etc.

I think it's really bad that we have had two new SMC threads on this forum. This one has only like 25 pages and makes it look like SMC is a new unknown coin that hasn't had any activity. First Paycoin, and now Netcoin are at the top of the leader boards at cryptsy.

Perhaps a shift in favor of the better named coins? Maybe an indicator?


Might mean now is a good time for smartcoin, smc, to make its move up ?
I still do not really see why there is any problems with getting the exchanges to use the word SMART as the ticker symbol(I cannot see why there needs to be any changes in the wallet at all, to do that)

Already told you why switching from SMC to SMART is a bad idea  . And the reason SMC is being low now has other roots. The difficulty algorithm is going haywire at the moment and makes mining unattractive which will hopefully change with the upcoming fork.
You got a lot of ideas but writing about them is one thing, realizing them another.. Right now, I'm busy with creating a new proper homepage etc. and Psionin isn't doing these kind of things either. So what I want to say is, if someone has ideas, just work on them and present them here. And if someone needs help, don't hesitate to text me or for example Psionin if it's dev related stuff.

The ticker symbol showing at exchanges is not connected to the smartcoin wallet, so has no effect at all on the wallet.

Could either put the smc in brackets on the page, or put the SMART in brackets on the page with a brief explanation, but it has no effect at all on the smartcoin wallet, so no matter what the smartcoin wallet says, it has not any effect on what is the word for the ticker symbol at exchanges.

People could see the word 'SMART' as the ticker symbol at exchanges and learn that in the wallet it says smc.
no big deal, and no rush to change the wallet.
But, it might attract investors if they see the word SMART instead of the word smc at the exchanges, is what i think.

Therefore, the reason given for not changing the ticker symbol to smart at the exchanges doesn't seem to be quite true, when in fact it could be done without any changes to the wallet at all. People just realize when they are buying smartcoin that the ticker symbol says smart, but the acronym in the wallet is smc, and the acronym in the wallet isn't quite the ticker  symbol anyways. It is merely an acronym, so the ticker symbol is separate matters from the acronym in the wallet.

But I think we would need psionin to ask the exchanges to use smart instead of smc at the exchanges.

I've been saying since 2013 to buy names cause features were worthless copy and paste.

I was called insane then while I quietly accumulated 5% of PayCoin and very much the same strategy with all other coins with great names.

I also said in 2013 we would see outright multi million dollar buyouts by 2015 of coins with great names especially ones which also owned the domains.

I'm so glad the SmartCoin Devs took my advice last year and seriously cut the inflation and dilution for SmartCoin.

Should demand for SMART pick up or a name buyout appear, the payout for current investors will be much greater.

I would not waste much time in doing this.

Big investors and corporations will soon launch their own coins and you can bet SmartCoin will be a name they want.

I hope the devs own the domain Names and hold out for a multi million dollar buyout offer. 

Meanwhile, grab the SMART TICKER which would be a big SMART move and do it ASAP!

I think there is some decent rationale to the idea, but I have to disagree on a technical level.

First, the classic currencies have a three letter exchange symbol style, and although there is less restriction in the Bitcoin world, it is probably better to stick to that if there is a choice. (Recall BlackCoin changing to a 3 letter symbol just recently.)

Second, the ticker symbol of a currency is used to denominate discrete units of that currency (for example, "that BTC is mine", "he bought that for 30 USD"). Since the word "smart" is an adjective, this creates dissonance in the linguistic sense, and I think that it is ultimately not a good idea.
