downloaded 3.6 wallet and now its staking like a motherfunkster - like 10 a minute!

Any ideas?

There's not many clients on the 3.6.0 and the network is yet to propagate to it , so less weight. More stake for the one's staking. Tongue

Warm Regards,
~SoopY~

Yes but 10 a minute for a coin with 30 sec blocks?

Maybe he has the same problem I have, where I keep staking blocks on top of other staked blocks, so they all appear legit in my wallet but in reality they are orphans

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

A bootstrap is a concatenate version of the blockchain. Once placed in your %APPDATA%/NavCoin2
It will read blocks from the disk and syncing should be pretty fast and minimal use of bandwidth.

So if I try a full sync again, I can use the bootstrap instead of the downloaded blockchain?
Start with an empty navcoin2 folder on appdata having only bootstrap, wallet.dat and navcoin.conf?

Would you be so kind as to take note of how long it takes to complete the bootstrap?
It does not need a precise measure up to the second, even a crude measure would be helpful.

The time can also vary according to the hardware in use, so it would be useful to have data from different users to aggregate.

After 40 minutes right now I'm at block 45270. It's sure taking its time.
Downloading the blockchain and syncing the old way took less time.

Looks like I'll have to leave it unattended before it finishes because it will take another 2 hours if it goes like this. I hope it doesn't make a mess again with fake stakes

With the bootstrap file? Hm it is the complete blockchain in it. I don't understand why it needs to download. When you look into Appdata. Is the bootstrap extracted?

How can I tell? Its still there and there is activity in the other subfolders but I don't know what to look for.

If it makes a difference, the wallet started instantly. There did not seem to be anytime to "adjust" to anything, like when you drop a complete blockchain in it.

Yet right now it says "importing blocks" on the status bar at the left hand side. So I suppose its using the bootstrap?

1h 40m and its at 74500

Thanks Bspus.
IMHO This is the correct\canonical way to load a blockchain,
in this way each block is read, fully controlled and therefore indexed,
just as if it was downloaded from the network, but without having
to be online.

Do not worry, take all the time you need.
As you may have noticed the progression is more than linear.

You're right when you say that to a higher frequency of stakes,
often it is also accompanied by a higher probability of producing
chains of orphans blocks, is something that we have experienced all
many months ago.

Perhaps, in the future the DevTeam could imagine a kind of
simple "pacemakers", which avoids the production of too many
consecutive blocks by a wallet (too heavy).

For example it may be sufficient to impose a pause of 40 seconds
of sleep to the miner, after it as produced a new block.

This is a simple thing that they can do with a couple of lines.
I think that would not result in losses to the miner, but on the
contrary it would give everyone a chance to produce blocks.

Moreover giving the possibility of alternating the blocks created
by different wallet, it could increase security and possibly lessen
the orphans.

What happens now is that a few hours ago, after the stall of the
blockchain the PosDif collapsed at very low levels, but fortunately
now is recovering, as you can see here, in the chart below:
https://chainz.cryptoid.info/nav/#!extraction

I imagine that when you've finished bootstrapping, POSDif will be returned
normal, but in the meantime it will not surprise me if there will be a few
more small number of orphans, and a bit of Yoyo effect in the staking times
and PosDif.

LOL!!
Shahim, if there is one thing of which you and I are both experienced,
well this is definitely the bootstrap of the Nav. Cheesy Cheesy

Indeed as you say, during the bootstrap you do not need to be online.

There are other factors that determine the time required to bootstrap,
for example, the hardware configuration... or the software. Wink

Maybe if you agreements in PM with Shahim, you could try with a reverse
connection.

I mean that could be Shahim which try to to add your ip to the list of its
nodes, and start an incoming connection (view from your side).

PS:
If I remember correctly, the RPC command to do this on a temporary basis should be:
addnode "ip" onetry

Please change you navcoin.conf to mine. That port is definitely not correct. 44440 is the correct. Bit i would just copy paste my file. It is working on my side!

I just came back and checked on the wallet.
It's been 6 full hours and it still hasn't synced. I'm 3 weeks behind at about 150000 blocks

So... if the bootstrap is working, I can't see the advantage of using it.

It will be another 2 hours at least. I'll check in the morning, hopefully it will be OK

I have an old HP Laptop with Windows 7 and only 2 gb de memory.

Working as expected.

Sorry for the guys experiencing sync delays.

I am sure there will be a solution! There is always one.

Have you guys tried other PC with other connections?

Salud!

Very little of the time in syncing the blockchain is spent on downloading the blocks and most of the time is spent on CPU and I/O.

We are always looking for ways to sync faster and more efficient ways to sync mate.

Will further focus on this aspect furthermore.

That is why we are working on the Thin clients that's going to be available soon , where you can start using NAV right out of the box.

Warm Regards,
~SoopY~

It is not normal to have less connections to the NavCoin network when everyone else is having 7+ connections mate , have you tried a different pc or changed the network that you are currently in or maybe changed your router just to see if it is blocking ports? This seem to be a very specific issue that is prevalent to you mate. Unfortunately sometimes despite all the other factors are in like , there can be issues on the local network you are in that can pose issues to your syncing process. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need further help with regards to the same.

Website and Wallet update

Dear NAV Community

We have seen some users today experiencing a problem with their wallets syncing. We have released a new version of the wallet with a built in checkpoint to get your block chain past the problem area.

Please proceed to the downloads page of the website to get the latest version of the wallet (3.6.0) http://navcoin.org/downloads

We have also uploaded a zip of the blockchain to this page, so if you're syncing from the beginning you can use these files to get a head start.

The android wallet has also resumed service now that we've updated the electrum nodes with the latest version.

All of our nodes are now on the latest version which can be found on our github https://github.com/navcoindev/navcoin2/tree/master

Please add these nodes to your navcoin.conf

addnode=185.61.148.209
addnode=95.183.51.15
addnode=95.183.50.58
addnode=95.183.50.54
addnode=95.183.53.184
addnode=95.183.53.12
addnode=95.183.52.165
addnode=5.230.142.254
addnode=5.230.146.212

We will postpone the payouts from the twitter competition until the network stabilises. We endeavour to make these payments as soon as possible, hopefully within the next day or two.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your support!

Warmest regards,
The Nav Team
