now is the time to get this fire going hotter. With the gavincoin being implemented next year I see this getting a lot of wind in its sails.

The New World Order thanks you for your support of Bitcoin and encourages your continuing support so that they may track your expenditures easier.

now there are no explorers working...?
shossain (sprnt)BOT 6:30 AM
Hey @marcm9000, the database of explorebtcd.info got corrupted. I just deleted them this morning and synced again with BTCD client. took about 3 hours and its working again.
marcm9000 (sprnt)BOT 6:12 PM
@shossain hey! can you put it back? the corrupted richlist showed I had way more btcd. actually more than I really have. so, ok. never mind, I'll take what Ive got. :-D
shossain (sprnt)BOT 5:07 AM
lol... @marcm9000, the database i was talking about it is only for the block explorer itself  If it was BTCD database, it would take longer to sync. richlist database is created from the BTCD daemon; blocks and txs as they are happening every 4 minutes.

Got some at 300k too, next goal 250k
cassius (sprnt)BOT 5:46 AM
Yeah, weird dumping. I guess there are still lots of big holders who don't care too much about the tech
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:03 AM
whenever new tech details are disclosed, the price drops
the logic is that the more tech there is, the worse it is
cassius (sprnt)BOT 6:05 AM
Makes sense. Standard pattern in Nxt too.
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:16 AM
yes, it is the rimbit will take over bitcoin logic
their equation is price == 1/tech
so as the amount of tech approaches zero, the price approaches infinity
i bet a whitepaper can be made from this!
3rdstryker (sprnt)BOT 6:17 AM
i might buy some rimbit
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:17 AM
they have been diligently not doing any development at all
3rdstryker (sprnt)BOT 6:18 AM
why add to a winning formula
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:18 AM
exactly
peercoin achieved perfection about a year ago, so fork it, write protect it, done
but you need to have pictures of pretty girls on a website
i think it is the fact that people dont put money into what they dont understand
pondsea (sprnt)BOT 6:20 AM
:stuck_out_tongue:
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:20 AM
so both BTCD and SuperNET are rapidly confusing enough people and thus losing ground to rimbit and other 1/tech coins
I got the ramchain plugin working to where it is generating at 3x the speed. it is making bigger files, but will be much faster on startup and runtime than the old ramchains
as a plugin, all the other plugins will be able to directly use the ramchain plugin, including of course the MGW plugin
it is dynamically loading the various plugins/ramchains
still some bugs, but I need to switch to the networking side for a chance of scenery, plus getting some realtime datastreams would be very cool for InstantDEX
however, this is even more tech, so price should keep going down
pondsea (sprnt)BOT 6:25 AM
James any reason why MGW servers keeps going down/slow? Recently i have seen a spate of people asking why they havent got their withdrawals in a timely basis
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:27 AM
I am not running them so not 100% sure, but from what I can tell it is a comms issue between them
each server is running fine, but the other servers stop hearing from it
and since all three need to be in sync, everything stops
pondsea (sprnt)BOT 6:27 AM
Is there  anyway to get the reliability of it up?
jahl (sprnt)BOT 6:27 AM
@abraxas147: hoping on 250k aswel
pondsea (sprnt)BOT 6:28 AM
Even if it was to get a alert to the operator saying hey there is something wrong
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:28 AM
if anything, this should prove to people that it is doing a multi-server consensus, but probably small comfort to people who are waiting
pondsea (sprnt)BOT 6:28 AM
haha true
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:28 AM
" I need to switch to the networking side" from above
is to solve this comms issue
pondsea (sprnt)BOT 6:28 AM
 cool
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:28 AM
the other problem is that for the BTC ramchain, it takes ~1hr to restart
pondsea (sprnt)BOT 6:29 AM
Is there anyway to have an active/standby VMs?
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:29 AM
so if everything is 100% stable, then maybe not so bad, but if we have to restart several times per week, then it will lower availability
the problem is that all three need to be in perfect sync
pondsea (sprnt)BOT 6:30 AM
Maybe a floating IP configuration setup where there are multiple VMs but 1 has the IP being used for the MGW
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:30 AM
if we add standby servers, they need to be in sync also, which makes the problem more complicated
pondsea (sprnt)BOT 6:30 AM
If that VM dies you can point the IP to the working VM thus no 1 hour downtime
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:31 AM
no VM are dying (though sometimes they lose power)
I think the best solution is layering
we can have vendors providing direct conversions to people
and these vendors are the ones directly interacting with MGW
the vendors would use InstantDEX to make available gateway swaps
this of course requires InstantDEX to be able to clear native coin trades, so will be v2
oh no!
that's even more tech. sorry, price to 150k now possible
for users  I am envisioning InstantDEX gateway "orderbooks"
buying is deposit, selling is withdraw, or the opposite
not sure which is better direction for GUI
pondsea (sprnt)BOT 6:35 AM
Let me change my order on bittrex before the sell off begins lol
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:35 AM
I guess it depends on if it is mgwBTC/nativeBTC vs nativeBTC/mgwBTC
so this is the fully distributed BTC gateway function as anybody would be able to enable the gateway plugin and offer such deals
they will probably add some fees, but market forces will let people tradeoff response time, historical reliability for cost
if you dont mind paying 25%, just use shapeshift, if you dont mind waiting use MGW directly and it is a few txfees
for less spread but faster, it would be up to the individuals to create a market
I think this is the solution as there is always the coin confirmation time issue and three independent servers will always be going out of sync with each other temporarily for blockchains
pondsea (sprnt)BOT 6:41 AM
Is there anyway to setup more alerting in place?
So the people running the servers and get notified and fix it asap?
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:42 AM
i think they have the alerting
pondsea (sprnt)BOT 6:42 AM
Also is there a way to add another 3 sets of servers and say have 4/6 agree on a multisig to approve the withdrawal? Would that add more issues or less issues
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:42 AM
but the mr murphy, he is making it so the out of sync happens just as the operator goes offline
there are 24 hrs in the standard earth day and to cover that for all three servers is more than 3 peoples
4/6 wont be standard tx, so now we would have to wait for a non-standard tx to get confirmed
and a lot of coins can barely do standard multisig
pondsea (sprnt)BOT 6:43 AM
Ah
Maybe we should have supernet NOC
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 6:44 AM
this is why the progress is slowed as I am being dragged back into solving such things with a new version of tech
but without stable and responsive MGW, then it is hard to build a total solution
js.galt (sprnt)BOT 11:44 AM
I thought n of 15 multtisig was standard tx now.
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 11:45 AM
still has not propagated to the majority of the network
also how to coordinate and manage 15 people?
js.galt (sprnt)BOT 11:45 AM
oh, im not suggesting that
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 11:45 AM
keep in mind that if a serverhost changes, ALL multisig addresses are needing to be updated
js.galt (sprnt)BOT 11:45 AM
4/6 is maybe more reasonable.
right
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 11:46 AM
anyway, after discussions with pondsea, I am onto a new method to solve this, almost totally
but we cant disclose it as it is even more tech and the price would crash
js.galt (sprnt)BOT 11:46 AM
lol
ok. We are talking with eth about making an update on the media about SN's milestones. Curious about any updates on BTCD. and in general curious about how teleport is doing I want to start using anon
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 11:48 AM
to do privacy right, the rest of the infrastructure needs to be in place.
since I keep getting dragged back into improving MGW, this is making a delay for the rest
js.galt (sprnt)BOT 11:51 AM
I see. What do you need these days, how can we help?
jl777 (sprnt)BOT 11:53 AM
flux capacitor
just need a bit more time, or to fix the cloning machine.

juicybirds (sprnt)BOT 10:44 AM
Am I correct in thinking the only way to store btcd in multisignature addresses right now is to convert to mgwBTCD?
convert to mgwBTCD =  install Supernet wallet and send btcd to address within the supernet wallet?
pondsea (sprnt)BOT 4:24 PM
Install Supernet, wait till it generates an address then send to it
jahl (sprnt)BOT 4:53 PM
just wondering, but why is the supernet installer still using NRS 1.4.16 and hasn't been updated with the 1.4.17 ?
juicybirds (sprnt)BOT 9:04 AM Okay thanks.
I'm going to see if I can setup a cold storage supernet wallet.
I will try using the same procedure as setting up a cold storage Nxt Wallet.
Multisignature cold storage = come at me bro
9:07
I also came up with a way to protect against a MITM attack
MITM attack = force someone to listen to Man In The Mirror by michael jackson until they give up their password

FYI: The latest shift for the Xpool.ca Multipool paid out 133+ BTCD.

@jl777:
Did you take a look at Isis2 project?

I think the Cloud Computing library there can help you deal with virtual synchrony.

jl777 SuperNET Slack crosspost

I abstracted the MGW/ramchain into a data provider -> data consumer
via load balanced and fault tolerant three level set of relay nodes

what this means is that any node can make a load balanced request for any SuperNET API and they can also subscribe to the data stream from any plugin running on any node as all nodes (plugins within a node) become publishers

first design goal is speed
so I am just providing a reliable channel between service providers and end user nodes, and the plugins can be 100% javascript so run on HTML only setups
basically all the coins can make a bridging plugin that publishes services from their blockchain with <100 lines of code

and these plugins can be dynamically loaded and unloaded, so the user can have a control panel to enable/disable built in plugins and load new ones, it is like the apt-get but much faster as the loading of a plugin is taking but seconds

current from command line, I can issue a <plugin> <method> {json args} and it is sent to the load balanced relays and gets a response back
there will be a list of "publications" that are synchronized in the relays, so then the client node can directly subscribe to whatever service

the problem I have is connectivity. my local node only seems to connect to a small subset of the relay nodes and only in some directions, ie only to the relay for some nodes, only from the relay to other nodes. then again I cant even directly ssh from this node, so it is quite a bad case

there is a "peers" plugin that sends a request to all peers, not all peers will have to respond, but this is a good way to sync up to the current status
since my node is unable to make reliable connection, this is not working, so I implemented a "broadcast" flag, from command line it is just "!"
!<plugin> <method> {json args}

the above will use the fault tolerant load balanced method to get the request into the relays and the receiving relay will do the <plugin> <method> {json args}

including "peers" global polling. it is taking about 500 milliseconds for a relay node to global poll the other nodes, but I only have 13 relay nodes currently

still I think we can limit the responses to half a second and another half second ping time back still gets us a 1 second response for a global poll and the relay node can even make a summary report to save bandwidth

this all probably seems a bit abstract, let me make it a bit more concrete
client node submits "!MGW status" -> relays -> broadcasts to service provider nodes ... (500 milliseconds) <- all MGW nodes respond with status
the relay node, combines the MGW status data and sends it back

another use case
InstantDEX prices and current quotes aggregated by the relay nodes
client makes a new quote via load balanced request -> relay nodes synchronize and push an update to their subscribers
all other client nodes (by default they subscribe to all the relay nodes) receive the pushed update

it will even be possible (if direct connection is working between) for two nodes to cross subscribe to each other directly
then they can directly feed their quotes to each other, skipping the relay process. this would be for market makers who are in the same trading market

before everyone starts screaming "centralization", there is a "join" method that adds a new node and if you have the "iamrelay" field set in the SuperNET.conf, then your node becomes one of the relays

and of course, all nodes are at the same time running the client and the relay code at the same time
it will be possible to use the relay nodes like proxies, so all the requests are done via the relay nodes and this will shield the MGW server IP addresses
however with any node being able to be added, the MGW nodes will need to limit to a whitelist what relays they use

for now I am getting the basics working and will push through the MGW and InstantDEX use cases. After they both work, then it will be ready for a more rigorous definition of the plugin (some call it agent) interface and expansion to all the other languages
I will then be able to add the privacy features, so by enabling a privacy plugin, your node goes dark but still gets most all the functionality

as far as MGW reliability goes, as long as 2 of the 3 servers are alive and have up to date coin wallets, there should be no down time and the response will be coin confirmation time + 5 seconds

for those that are impatient, please understand that rewriting 50,000 lines of code is not something even I can do in 1 week, that is why it has taken so long, but without a fast and reliable service, we have nothing.  After the transition to the plugin/agent architecture, things become a lot more manageable. I am able to make a new plugin within minutes and all it has to do is respond to JSON requests. There are nn_loadbalanced(), nn_allpeers(), nn_publish() calls that issue the three types of calls and the system automatically updates the network topology as needed

I hope this is enough of a detailed status to allow everyone to understand where things are. I still have 20,000 lines to debug, but pretty much all the ramchain/MGW code base has been reworked to the new model. I still need to port the InstantDEX, but I dont see any difficult issues for solving once the relays are working as the difficult issues for InstantDEX is the relays.

I guess another way to look at it is that I have been working on the relays for InstantDEX, but it is general enough to solve MGW
unless any questions, I need to get back to debugging. so many lines to go before I sleep
the new SuperNET relays is quite useful, even outside of pure crypto as it can handle a generalized pub/sub model, ie audio, video (needs to bypass relays), file sharing, etc

Development Update and Donation Request:

Dear BitcoinDark Community,

BitcoinDark development has been ongoing behind the scenes for quite a while and we are now approaching a time when that development will begin to bear fruit.

One of the new developments includes a new HTML-local-host Wallet GUI to replace the old QT version.   The plan is to first release a basic port, in terms of features, of the original QT wallet and then add additional features/enhancements in subsequent versions. The front-end is almost finished and work on the back-end of the wallet will begin soon.

The HTML Wallet will bring a host of new benefits to BTCD users:

-GUI with an updated cutting edge look that is easy to operate
-Combination of HTML and Native Ramchains allows wallet access using multiple devices
-New tech features, such as Teleport, can easily be added to later client versions
-BTCD tech will make it to the BTCD client first before it becomes available on the SuperNET branded client
-Future in-client access to SuperNET affiliated coins and services

Donation Goal:

We are aiming to raise 10,000 BTCD to help see the current development through to completion.  Not only will your donation help contribute to BitcoinDark development, but also will act as an investment to enhance the future value of BTCD.

Uses for Donation Funds:

-Back-end GUI development                                           (~2000 BTCD)
-Marketing/PR for upcoming tech releases                     (~2300 BTCD)
-Continued Webmaster and Weekly Blog payments      (~1200 BTCD)
-Hiring additional developers and specialists                (~2500 BTCD)
-Bounties for apps that utilize BitcoinDark tech            (~2000 BTCD)

Please help support BitcoinDark development by sending your donations to the following Official BTCD Donation Address:

Great news for BitcoinDark. Progress is urgently needed. I was a little worried about my BTCD stake the last time.

There are also some plans under way to accept BTC donations, so that people don't have to give up their BTCD stakes.

Great to see the progress the BitcoinDark community has made since the launch.  This effort to organize bounties for expanding development is especially exciting.

I have a few questions about the recently announced request for donations.

- 281K BTCD has passed through the official donation address.  Is there a simple explanation for why such a large amount of BTCD has passed through this address?

- Who is managing the official donation address?

- How will it be decided who gets paid, and how much they get paid?

- James was saying we need manpower for testing more than anything.  Would hiring testers or paying bug bounties fall under the "Hiring additional developers and specialists (~2500 BTCD)" category?

- Can you give an example of how past donations were used to increase the value of BTCD?

- Are the following statements correct?

Each member of the BTCD community is encouraged to donate ~1% of their BTCD holdings for us to meet the goal.  1216485*.01 = 12164 BTCD

If each member of the BTCD community donates ~1% of their BTCD holdings, this money will be invested in increasing the value of the remaining ~99% of their holdings.

@juicybirds: Good Questions:

1) I'm not exactly sure if it is a block explorer error or what, but previously there were at maximum little more than 1k btcd in donations.

2) Torrn is managing the official donation address.  He has been responsible for holding donations and making payouts.

3) This admittedly is an area that can be improved upon going forward, but as of now these decisions are a consensus between me, torrn, and btcddev.  Unless a payment is a promised fixed BTCD amount payments can change as the value of BTCD changes.

4) No, there are no plans to help pay for SuperNET related testing unless the BTCD community calls for it.  The additional developers and specialists category is meant to cover payment to hire developers for core support, GUI support and updates for future versions, and possible specialists in areas such as marketing/promotion.

5) Previous donations were used to pay for the website, webmaster, blogs, and to help kickstart front-end work on the html wallet.

And yes, if everyone donated 1% we would certainly reach our goal  Smiley

edit: As Cassius stated above, we are also working to get a BTC multisig account set up for those that would rather donate BTC instead of BTCD

Thanks xrobesx. That mistake is on me.

I think I accidentally pulled from the front-end developers earlier work and didn't spot the mistake.  English isn't the native language of the guy we have doing the front-end work so there has been numerous spelling/grammar errors that have been fixed from earlier versions.

I'll get those images changed out with the updated versions as soon as possible.

Sent! Hopefully will be able to send some more but I like the idea of supporting with bitcoin, too.

Does anyone know if it's possible to embed messages in the BTCD blockchain, like BTC? Presumably it is, but I haven't seen that in the current client.
Also, average number of blocks per day? Is it 1440 (1 per minute)?
