builds fine on my end, you may need to do a make clean, and then make sure you have libevent-dev installed not just libevent, or better yet build libevent from source, easy as download untar cd ./configure make make install

libevent-dev is installed, I always do make clean. There is some problem with the source, I doubt it is on my end. I am on Ubuntu 12.04.4
