BITMAIN Antminer S3 support and OverClocking thread

I've done exactly as the guide says, but it still says 225 as Frequency in the minerstatus... What can be wrong? The file is saved.

Check the Miner Configuration tab and if you have an Advanced Settings tab there, then you need to OC via that tab (by selecting the desired frequency) then clicking on the Save and Apply button (bottom right hand corner)

Hey Folks,

Over the past few days I have waded through the entire "BITMAIN AntMiner S3 Support Thread", the "Antminer S3 batch 6 overclocking" thread, Dogie's Somewhat Comprehensive AntMiner S3 thread, and a quite few others.

Some questions/observations:

• Some people just need to shut the hell up. I suppose that over a few weeks or months they're fine, but all at once in a week or so? Jeebus no.
• The latest BITMAIN FW (25OCT2014) is self-sufficient correct? Nothing to edit?
• To upgrade FW must it be via SSH, or does System > Upgrade > Browse > Select downloaded FW and click "Flash image" work?
• Finally, OC'ing is done within Miner Config tab, great! Is the present list of freq's in there comprehensive?

Anyone have any special tips/warnings/cautions/corrections they'd like to mention?

You are looking at the wrong file. Frequencies are set in the GUI and the file that holds these values is no longer the /etc/config/asic-freq file, but rather the file /usr/lib/lua/luci/model/cbi/cgminer/cgminer.lua (see this thread if you want to add to the freqs' list https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=699064.msg8370071#msg8370071)

anyone familiar with openwrt's implementation of opkg? apparently on the S3's "OPKG Update" isn't working.

When I run it i get the following:

===VOLTAGE SETTINGS===

The Very first post in this thread contains the following

I have tried 275MHz and 300MHz, and were no-go since the chip voltage in the S3 is set at 0.784V.

Since we can now mess with voltage, the question is how do we set it?

well lets take some things into consideration.

#1 Raising your voltage beyond safe limits can quickly damage your equipment, so this is the most finicky and potentially dangerous part of the overclocking process.

Now there is a WONDERFUL piece of info about our chips here

That gives us some clues as to how to set the voltage.

Since .784 volts is the default and the chart shows no gain in GHS over .80 then .80 would seem to be the logical step up.
 that will raise out Watts per GH to 0.702.

Now lets look at frequency.

at 275 the GHS is 17.33 (just like the chart shows for .80 volts) so we can surmise that to overclock to 275 mhz we would need at least 0.80 volts

The paper also shows that the MAX recommended operating voltage is 1.1 (dont go there)

I am not making suggestions as to what you should do. I have not tested this myself. Based on the information available i think that 0.80 volts at 275 mhz SHOULD work (if you can keep it cool)


To add the frequency you will add this to /etc/config/asic-freq

Just got a new S3 and have no idea how to get it mining.  I put in my pool information, connected miner to my router and it doesn't mine.  Any ideas what to do next?

I have found sometimes with mine I had to restart it completely and/or "save and apply" to get it to catch on to what it is supposed to be doing.  I also have experienced a weird thing where it insisted on putting stratum+ before my address even though it was no longer valid.  Very strange.

It doesn't seem to have a connection to the internet.  I have it connected to my router.  I believe that is the problem.  It is just a standard cable modem with the router built in.

How do you do that?  I don't know much about networking.  Not sure what I've done now.  I clicked on DHCP and can't get in the menu at all.
