Getting added to the OP by requesting the devs via PM is a joke.  It happens maybe 50% of the time, and never quickly.

Not our problem. If a dev wants his coin to succeed he will do everything possible to make sure he does have the pool list included. If he can't be bothered to do that then why would anyone want to bother with it?

So if a pool owner posts his pool in a thread... he will get banned??  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

How about limiting that post too 1 in each announcement thread?

Im really sorry I have too say this... But this is NOT the priority you should be looking at right now with all those scamcoins around these days..

People lose money everyday over scams...

But instead of helping the community, by setting stricter rules for coin announcements on here... you worry about poolowners who advertise their pools...

I really cant understand this... Sorry Undecided

Remove scamcoins? Ok.  *deletes alt currencies*  Grin

What sanctions? Imagine, I can create an account and spam ads of competitors.

We can press one button and ban an account, and remove all it's posts automatically. I don't think it's going to be a problem.

That's part of what prompted this, now it's fair for everyone, instead of some arbitrary rules that nobody is going to remember. Besides, this isn't some special rule just for alt currencies, when is the last time you saw a bitcoin mining pool advertising outside of Mining>Pools? Alt currencies has always received less moderation than the rest of the forum, and probably always will, but the pool spam is crazy and we're tired of dealing with the spam generated.

Mod: Can we announce when the pool is up and running with the source?, this allows miners to know which pool to choose from at launch.
Also, can we answer miner's questions that usually come up in the thread directed to each of us?

BadBear, you should clarify this a bit more. Pool advertising is permited entirely exept only a single post and that't the end? Of pool opperators can still advertise through signatures for example?

Yeah, that sounds fair.  Dev's might not have time to update the OP or they maybe offline at the moment.  Mod, how about only 1 pool advertising per thread?

How about we just make another subforum for altcoin services? Then people can post a thread to their pool and just update it whenever they add a new coin.

sounds good...

As a pool op I still think this is bullshit for the reasons I mentioned in previous posts.

Sending a PM to the dev/announcer is a crap shoot.  Maybe he'll add it to the OP, maybe he won't.  The only thing guaranteed is that he won't do it fast.  This gives the devs control over what pools are "blessed" enough to be advertised, and us operators who put in the effort to setup a pool might get screwed by not being listed in the OP.  I see a thread where everyone is complaining that all the pools are down, so I bust balls and get one setup - and have to wait on the dev to announce it in the OP?  Maybe never even announce it at all?  Bullshit.

This also opens the door for shady launches where one pool gets 100% of the hashrate, this will of course end up being the pool of the dev's choosing, since being the first one to post "We are up and running" in the thread will no longer be allowed.  So, if I stay up until silly o'clock in the morning to make the launch and be first pool available it might just be for nothing, if the dev decides not to pay attention to his PM's, or decides he likes a different pool better and announces them first.  Bullshit.

During launch, shit happens fast - pool ops need to be able to post status updates and advertise that their pool is working.  Devs already have enough to do and should not have to babysit PM's and continue updating the OP for pool updates, and miners shouldn't have to keep checking back on page 1 to get those updates either.

Banning *ALL* advertisements because of a few spammers is cutting off your nose to spite your face.  Don't ban the entire practice of advertising pools - do your job: moderate, and ban those abusing the forum.  If it's a problem (and I agree it is) then try something else, for example:

- Ban the users blatantly and constantly spamming their pools (they are easy to find)
- Limit pool advertisements to 5 lines of 12pt text or less and one 80x80 px image
- Require pool operators to pay a modest annual fee ($20 or so?) allowing them to advertise
- Any combination of the above

Yes - you heard me - I am willing to pay for the right to advertise.  I'm sure others are as well.

We already have Mining (Altcoins) board. Pool owners should do their announcements there.

If you want more exposure you can bid on forums ad space.

There are some older coins whose original dev has vanished but the coin is still going strong. The people who have taken up the development do not have access to the OP many times and so new pool information cannot be added except in later posts. I know they should probably have started a new thread when the dev abandoned the coin, but there are many older, good coins out there where all of the current pool information is in later posts, just for this reason.

Great argument, in parts.

This give scammy devs additional leverage. Pools will have to toe the line or risk being excluded from the OP.
Scam devs are not interested in creating a well-spread hashrate - even a single pool would do for them.
Especially one that doesn't highlight suspicious codes. The past week alone, I've seen three pools giving alerts on weird codes, like this one.
A layer of protection against scam coins is now removed.

I am not a pool OP and have no intentions to become one.  I still think this rule is mostly unjustified because if I wanted to mine a coin, I usually look at the advertisements on the thread.  I rarely look at the OP because the dev usually never updates the post.  I think pools should be allowed one post in the thread that advertises their pool, but then the rest of the rules can be followed.

The argument still stands. This grants greater powers to scam devs.
Pool owners would be more concerned about protecting their rice bowl rather than miners.
After the Elite wallet switcheroo last week and your resulting losses, I'm surprised you'd be in favor of this.

It's not nearly as convenient.  I RARELY go to the mining section, and I don't look at people signatures Tongue.  It would just be better if I could see one post of the pool.

This is NOT a solution.  When a coin launches miners want to know what pools are available for THAT SPECIFIC COIN.  Why should someone have to go to the mining section and look through each post to see if they can find a pool that happens to be set up for a coin they are interested in mining?  The information they are looking for is not about the pool, it is about the COIN.  Therefore, the information should be posted in the COIN thread.  I am not a pool operator, but I am really frustrated by this new rule.

I've simply updated my main pools page (https:///www.suprnova.cc) where you find all Suprnova Pools and also added Twitter..

So if you add these too things, you'll always get the latest suprnova pools and news.
