Last days a lot of pool spammers banned, (we are talking about this type of spamming) so this rule is necessary for anti-spam policy. I fully support the new rule. It's better than completely removing altcoin board.

That's not even a pool

Rule is not only about pools. Advertising spam is not allowed.

OK so the way you've reworded the title and OP you are saying that we can post once about a pool / exchange / other service but just not spam it?

Is that correct?
No, you can't advertise your service, be it a pool, a marketplace, etc., in other threads (that includes coin announcements). Make your own thread in the appropriate board and PM OP to add it to the main post.

Please, clarify what is classified as advertising in terms of pools. This general rule has no guidelines and posts are being removed without explanation.

Examples of what is OK and what is NOT OK would be extremely helpful.

There is a time factor when new coins are released. If I create a pool I want to inform miners as soon as possible. If I must wait for the dev to add my pool to the OP, miners have to wait as well.

It's in the benefit of both miners and pool ops, for pool ops to be allowed to post an unstyled 1 liner linking to their pool. Unstyled meaning no altering of how the text looks in a post.

Did the ones who spilled their screen filling banners all over threads ruin it for us all?

So coins launch, now pool ops cant post about their pools having the coin .

Coin gets raped by a select few who either own or rent mega hash at the start, leaving the small fish trying to solo and not getting anything.

Smart power I tell ya..... NOT.

I can understand putting LIMITS on something like this, but to outright say none of it allowed is just crazy.

What are you talking about? Advertising is still allowed, just on a reasonable level.

Sorry my bad, I've missed his post just now. Well that is a bit too much. I mean making a limitation like once per 24 hours in a thread or such would be okay I guess.
This rule is just too strict.

I understand what the mods are trying to do, but yes, this rule is too strict.

Mods, what is the harm of a pool posting just one time in a coin's ANN thread to announce their pool is ready?

I do see one bad thing that can come out of this. After a pool op makes a post about their pool, they create multiple accounts to quote it, and re-quote it.

I'm not sure how that can be stopped, but I do not think completely disallowing pool ops from posting their pool in a coin's ANN thread is a solution to stopping spam.

I've edited the OP to make it a bit more general and cover all service related spam, which includes pools.

I agree that the advertisement spam has gotten out of control, but can we at least post a one liner -once- in a coin thread? No images/etc? Just something along the lines of ______________ has added this coin

Can we get an answer on this?
No that's not allowed. No matter the formatting - it's still advertising. Use PMs to inform the coin OP and as BadBear said, if the OP never updates/cares for his thread, then why should others care about the coin.

This is ridiculous.  You do nothing to stop the endless flow of scammy shitcoins, but people posting USEFUL INFORMATION about what pools are available for a coin is now somehow a problem?
Just freedom of expression.
A new coin is legitimate can be scam or not, investors who take the risk of it or not.
There is no way a fair control of the new coins for all.

Amidst multiple scams, there are coins that compensate for long-term investment and can enhance our current financial system.

Great, my 5 day random ban with no warning just expired.  It's good to see solutions for problems that don't exist, especially when the outcome will actually be a real problem - more fake accounts just to promote pools.  You should be allowed to post one line of text, in a manner that's not spammy:

http://newpool.chickenstrips.net is up and hashing.

The sheer amount of logos and other bullshit I can see how that would be something that could piss off a forum mod.  I can't see how this would be a problem, even if it gets abused.

Either way, to make this easy to understand.  Bitcoin is a single coin, it can have a pool section.  Altcoins simply cannot, no one is going to sift through a mess of shit to find a pool that is mining the coin that launched 1 minute ago.  Coin devs will get to play favourites now, and there will be no way to get your pool in the OP unless you pay for it or get lucky.  Of course none of you moderators give a shit because you think altcoins are stupid scams, so please do us a favour and nuke this entire subsection so the other forums can take your traffic.

I couldn't agree more .. its totally useless rule.
I PM 2 devs, of different coins and our pool added to OP 2 DAYS ASTER LAUNCH on first coin, other one is still not listed ....
We (Pool ops) should be able to post at least one post with our info...
Be realistic there is no miner that will browse with hours just to find who pool will add the new coin he/she want to mine ... Its absurd.
Set this rule to 1 post per ANN, please. This will avoid spam and you will not f*ck us so hard Smiley

That's not the rule you're proposing. We can clearly see from your example the problem that you want to solve. Which is great, btw! I think we'd all like to see that kind of spam gone. But your new rule is clearly too far in the other direction.

In what way is: "MinePit added a pool for this coin" considered spam? It's 100% relevant to the coin's ongoing progress and is a service which miners want (in some cases need) to see.

Isn't the very coin thread an entire advertisement? Everytime the dev makes a post about the coin, a new feature, a development of some kind - it's surely (by your own definition) advertising spam?

Somebody's gone a bit over the top here with their power stick and we just need a bit of common sense to come into play.

Can I show an example of where this system has a negative effect?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=702380.0

The dev has added pools to the list here in an order they feel is appropriate. To anybody visiting the thread for the first time all they will get to see is that list of pools in the OP.

Firstly, there are no details about any of the pools - what fees they charge, any unique qualities, any special benefits miners may want to take advantage of etc etc

Secondly, I've been watching the list as pools were being added over time. The order of the list seems to be based on nothing but the dev's idea of which he feels are the best/largest/most important pools. We were running before Dedicated and were added 4th in the list. Dedicated open a pool and are added right at the top. This is fine, it's the dev's coin and he can organize his post how he sees fit. But it's just not a fair summary for miners. Most likely 90% of people will just click the first one in the list and not bother with the rest - even though they may get a better deal mining in one of the other pools.

And wait, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=702380.msg8178047#msg8178047
Is that not "advertising spam"?? Or is it OK for the dev to post it?

It's still unreasonable snce you don't minimise the restriction to only permit such posts. The posts in your picture are clearly only intended to advertise a pool. They use glossy colors, bold letters, urls, and bold formatting. They're there only to draw attention and end up taking space in posts and making discussion harder.
A one line post to update the status of a pool is nothing like that. Just a damn regular post. I can't get why pool OPs would be banned for such a post.
