Thanks to the mods for finally enacting a rule about advertising on threads. Hopefully we will see some of the other needed changes that have been discussed around here as well.

To be honest, why cater to this section and altcoins at all?

You changed your name again? What are you trying to hide?

I'm trying to compile a list of forums and communities where such posts are more welcome. This is even what badbear suggested. Hop in and give me your suggestions.

This is such a shame.  Now we need to seek others forums because administrators won't allow pertinent information to be posted in the threads here. Sad

That's true mate, it sucks but it seems that's what we're gonna have to do.

Are you certain about this, Alani?
I doubt Theymos would be happy to hear that.
Bitcointalk relies on the traffic generated by the altcoin forum. I would be surprised if Theymos would willingly allow this traffic to go elsewhere.

Mods here are doing more than allowing the traffic to go somewhere else, they're telling it to go somewhere else.  This forum is no longer allowing users to post the information that miners and traders need.  Thus, we are forced to disseminate to competitor forums.

I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
I've yet to see a single mod chasing users away from Bitcointalk.
Bitcointalk needs the alternative currency section to stay relevant, aside from the revenue the traffic generates.
There is a reason behind this silly rule - and I personally think it has more to do with SEO than anything else (I think the administrators are afraid of being penalized by Google for link spamming).

Quote for refrence:

Wow. For the guys suggesting one post per thread, how exactly do you expect us to enforce that? There is no easy way to see how many times someone has posted in a particular thread. Even looking through the post history won't work because you can easily change the subject of a post to hide what thread you're posting in, not to mention that's too time consuming. Also all you'd have to do is delete the old post, since mods can't see deleted posts (and I suspect more than one of you who suggested this knew that).

And yes, you guys are right when listing the problems inherent with using this forum as the sole source of information about an altcoin, along with a thousand other coins. Which is the reason people spam in the first place, because there is no specific board for mining a particular coin, or for services for a coin, or whatever else. The only real answer is to setup coin specific forums, any serious coin will do this. The rest are pump and dumps, or scams that won't be around long enough, and we aren't going to cater to them. We won't setup coin specific boards here either. Spamming is a crutch people have used to get around these limitations, and it's getting out of hand.

Even BadBear suggests we could use another forum. Sure, not chasing users out of the forum, but this new rule makes the life of traders/miners harder. They will no longer be able to get updated the moment thei come in. My suggestion to those guys was that yhey should open an account in cryptocointalk (or any other suitable alternative) and lurk there as well. Neither I said that we should abandon the forum, just use a nother one at the same time but for different purposes.

Well, it's simple, if they don't allow us to do such an important part of our job which is posting in the forums for so many reasons, and of course this affects everyone in the Altcoin world, they're just chasing everyone out of here. I've never even touched Cryptocointalk before this happened, Bitcointalk was the only forum for me but not anymore.

+100

As a miner and trader of altcoins, I need to know what pools and exchanges are supporting a coin.  If that information cannot be translated quickly and easily in this forum, then myself and the thousands of others like me are forced to get the information through other avenues (i.e.  different forums).

Well, it's not simple at all. Your assumptions and interpretations does not translate to them chasing anyone one out. As I've mentioned before, Bitcointalk wants and needs the alt coin traffic.
There is no way they will voluntarily let go of it. I would not be surprised if the alternative cryptocurrency section accounts for half of pageviews here.
I really do wish Cryptocointalk or some other alt coin forum becomes more popular.
Like monopolies, market leaders will gradually become more authoritative and impose their terms without much thought to the users.
Credible competition for Bitcointalk will change their attitude, and stop taking us for granted.

The issue now though is that those who break the rules will benefit while those who follow the rules won't.

So you will have people advertising their pool in the thread because they chose to break the rules - and they will get more miners from that advert - despite it being a violation.

And those of us who keep to the rules, will not have the same exposure.

I'm trying to compile a list of forums and communities where such posts are more welcome. This is even what badbear suggested. Hop in and give me your suggestions.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=725376.msg8195945#msg8195945

Are you certain about this, Alani?
I doubt Theymos would be happy to hear that.
Bitcointalk relies on the traffic generated by the altcoin forum. I would be surprised if Theymos would willingly allow this traffic to go elsewhere.
No it does not rely on the traffic from this forum. This part of the forum is utter garbage with 95% (at least) being useless, I'm not even going to mention the number of coins that are being released for pump and dumb/scamming attempts.
I wonder just if the section was removed entirely, how much less spam/work there would be for the moderators.
There would not even be a need for such strict rules as this one. After all it is called bitcointalk.org

Of course it does. Don't be naive. You only need to look at the posts volume to make an estimate.
And the section won't be removed anytime soon. It's too valuable.
You would do well to get down from your high horse and start to appreciate what alternative coins bring to Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general.
Yes, there are bad eggs, but the fault lies more with the forum for refusing to impose even the most basic vetting requirements to weed them out.
The environment is fertile for scams. The forum administrators and moderators have dropped the ball here, as many have pointed out in recent months.

If the mods are so hell bent on being lazy, install some fucking auto moderation tools for users. "oh it's too much for us, oh woe, woest me" if only there was a site DEDICATED to solving this problem hey?

Some people here keep saying bitcointalk relies on traffic... Let me remind you that the only advertisement that the forum earns money from is by the weekly ad space auction. Not a per view/click embeded ad space from a third party.

The value also depends on traffic. Lower traffic = lower CTR = lower bids.
