Advertising spam is not allowed, this includes mining pools, gambling services, exchanges, shops, etc. Mining pool ops should make a thread within the Mining section of Alt Currencies. Most OP's already link to pools available so advertising your pool is unnecessary and leads to too much spam. Exchanges, shops, gambling sites, etc, should make a thread in the Marketplace section of Alt Currencies.

Hi

what does "etc" mean ? every URL ?
Any kind of third-party service that is posted by another person (rather than the starter of the thread).
So, If I develop a service or product denominated in a coin I support, I cannot post it here??? And you claim that you are here to support cryptocurrencies?

I will revise my opinion based on this response. This isn't merely arbitrary and capricious, this is deliberate malice. Has Theymos become so wealthy that he wants to drive all custom away? Or were the moderators and admins just smokin' something REALLY mentally harmful?
You can post it in a dedicated thread for that specific service, as in made by you or in a thread like "All services accepting this coin" in the Marketplace (Altcoins) or Mining (Altcoins) (depends on the service). If you want a service added to a coin's OP, you can send a PM to the dev.

...which was addressed and explicitly rejected as invalid in my previous post. What you aren't addressing is WHY you want to restrict commerce. Over the last year, altcoins have become relevant. During that same year, it seems that this forum has been trying very hard, in a passive aggresive womanly manner, to get the alt section to go away. I've largely stayed out of it until now, but the trend is obvious.

So, I ask again, has Theymos become so wealthy that he no longer wants or needs our custom, or have the admins and mods been hitting the pipe too hard?

Because frankly, the stated reasons for this arbitrary, capricious, and deliberately harmful ruling DO NOT match extant reality in any fashion. 2+2 does not equal five, and never will outside the halls of government. Yeah, from time to time, especially on a new launch, pool operators have gone a bit nuts. But if THAT is what concerns you, when openly fraudulent companies work their frauds in plain sight under your nose without comment from the mods in any meaningful fashion, one HAS to question your ethics and motivations. Or assume you're on some ugly drugs. Or both.

Pool spam (as in bombarding of posts regarding one pool through multiple accounts) is just one of the problems the alt coin sections faces. As bad as it may sound, around 90% of spam I moderate, is in the alt sections, particulary in new coin announcements. We can't track and identify everything by ourselves, especially when spammers use multiple accounts to post the same service in different areas. Thus rules have to be made to prevent such situations and allow for more effective moderation.

You may think that threads regarding some services might be lost, but anything found on the coin's OP isn't. You PM the dev and he adds the service in. If he doesn't add it soon enough or at all, he doesn't care for the success of his coin. And like BadBear said, if he doesn't care, why the hell should you. If you feel the coin still deserves support, start a thread that lists all services regarding that coin and bump it once per 24 hours (as allowed byt the forum rules). If no one does, means the community doesn't really care about the coin and see it just like another pump and dump to make some quick money while leaving everyone else overboard.

Someone is spamming my thread stating i am deploying a virus. I post it here because its spam advertisement but I dont want advertisements on the thread. I want comments. I asked him to atleast go spam/advertise that the coin in question is a virus on fb, twtr, g+ or anywhere else and not on this forum.

He then proceeded to make his on thread explaining how its a virus and yadda yadda lol... Is this reportable? or no?

Thanks for your time to any replies.

I haven't looked at what you're talking about specifically, but yes, making his own thread is fine. We can't investigate everything, so best to leave the information there for the users to decide what's bullshit, and what isn't.

Yeah this just happened too - dont even waste your time on it please (other than by reading my posts here ^.^) literally dont waste your time on it further tho. I already reported the guy for spamming my thread & not for creating his own spammy post.

but like you said OPEN SOURCE > lies and the truth prevails.

You guys are doing a very good job as is so the following is just some useless advice ->

Dont let people make threads that are spam / misinformation / attempts to hurt the ecosystem. I mainly just read and let me tell you this forum > * because of the raw true information and helpful posts.

Anyway thats just my opinion - thanks for your time Smiley & GLHF

Wait - I recently had a lot of posts removed.

Are you telling me that posting in a coin's thread that the coin is now listed on our site is considered "advertising spam"?

We aren't advertising, and we aren't spamming. We're letting the community of that specific coin know that their coin has been listed. It's not indiscriminate spam in random threads, it's a very specific, posted once, notice that they can now trade their coin on our exchange.

Are you saying I need to make a post in the marketplace and hope that all these coins check the 20 different exchange threads there on a daily basis in hopes that they see our thread that they were listed?

Thats bordering on absurd.

I disagree with this.  Next thing you know I'll get banned for posting something like "Hey, since all the other pools are busted why don't you try my pool at http://blabla.minemyshit.com"  Would that be considered "advertising?"

For the record, a screenshot, arguably, in the most absurdly strict sense, this is an ad, I guess?

Quote
If someone asks a question like "Hey which pools are working right now" and I respond with "My pool at http://blabla.minemyshit.com is working great, come on over" will I get in trouble for that?  Should we expect everyone interested in mining to try every pool listed in the OP, which is not always current and definitely does not show status (working or not, forked or not), to find a working pool?

And actually what I find to be extremely disturbing, THIS is apparently "advertising spam":

My website address is in my signature. Shall I expect all my posts to be removed shortly?

Yes, I was banned for 3 days for spamming as well.
I think the Moderator needs some sex or something.
My posts were announcing a Giveaway at my site, and only appeared in threads of coins that I accept as payment.
(which is a major PR point for any altcoin)

This happened only days after I recieved an unsolicited email to advertise here.
Coin-cedence I don't think so.

You shouldn't trust that email, it's probably phishing or a scam attempt. Just FYI.

Badbear please explain in the best possible way how giving a coin's thread a one time notice that they are accepted to our exchange is considered spam. I just had 33 posts deleted by "mprep" for literally telling a community they are on our exchange. I cannot see any reason for this it is pure nonsense.

Here is an example of my typical posts, note there are no graphics used and very un-spammish in nature

That seems a pretty messed up moderation policy. What's wrong with an exchange notifying a coin thread that their coin has been added?

Agreed.  A major exchange listing is one of THE MOST IMPORTANT posts that can be posted in a coin thread.  We are all here mining, buying, or selling.  In all 3 cases, the most pertinent piece of information about a coin is where it can be exchanged!

+1 I agree too, this is insane. It's one thing to ban spam (multiple posts with larged colored fonts and graphics) but it's something completely different to delete and ban posts which are of interest to the community, every altcoin launch is unique, and there are sometimes hundreds of pages on a thread, there's no way that miners and investors will always try to go to the OP for the information they need.

Regarding the possible ways to show a coin that they have been accepted to your exchange:

1. Make a thread dedicated to your exchange and post a post in that thread that you accepted the coin (it counts as a bump and should be done once every 24 hours). If you don't have a coin added every 24 hours, just post a simple bump which will keep your thread somewhat up.

2. PM the dev asking to add your coin to the OP.

3. To anyone asking on whether some exchange added a coin, PM the user with said information. Just don't overdo it or it'll be considered spamming.

Does this apply for pools then? Can we post "Coin added to the pool, please see my thread" or something like that?

Here is an example of my typical posts, note there are no graphics used and very un-spammish in nature

"Welcome to C-CEX:

https://c-cex.com/?p=xsx-usd"
Regarding the possible ways to show a coin that they have been accepted to your exchange:

1. Make a thread dedicated to your exchange and post a post in that thread that you accepted the coin (it counts as a bump and should be done once every 24 hours). If you don't have a coin added every 24 hours, just post a simple bump which will keep your thread somewhat up.

2. PM the dev asking to add your coin to the OP.

3. To anyone asking on whether some exchange added a coin, PM the user with said information. Just don't overdo it or it'll be considered spamming.

Short form: You have no idea what you are doing. Or why. Were you guys drinking a LOT when you came up with this?

What information can be posted in a thread?  If we can't discuss where to mine, buy, sell, or exchange the coin, why allow comments at all?  There's not much else to talk about.

Does this apply for pools then? Can we post "Coin added to the pool, please see my thread" or something like that?
1. Yes, it applies.
2. No, you can't.

I didn't make the rules. Talk to BadBear and theymos if you believe this rule is unfair.

You can discuss the coin's community, specs ,algo, issues with the coin, benefits and disadvantages of it, when a certain feature will be implemented, feature discussion, troubleshooting and support for the coin, updates, hashing speed of the coin, config suggestions for more effective mining, etc.
