So, I'm looking at cryptocurrencies again, and setup a miner for Magi, and thinking, "hey, this is a CPU coin thats supposed to be fair", I decided to take it to its logicial extreme, and see if I could get the miner to run under android (specifically my Nexus 5). The answer? Yup: [2015-03-21 11:00:41] 4 miner threads started, using 'm7mhash' algorithm. With some pain, I got the miner to compile against bionic and run non-rooted (currently you have to use adb to start the daemon, but writing a frontend shouldn't be hard). Here's the device specs on CPU power: /proc/cpuinfo info: Processor : ARMv7 Processor rev 0 (v7l) processor : 0 BogoMIPS : 38.40
processor : 1 BogoMIPS : 38.40
processor : 2 BogoMIPS : 38.40
processor : 3 BogoMIPS : 38.40
Features : swp half thumb fastmult vfp edsp neon vfpv3 tls vfpv4 idiva idivt CPU implementer : 0x51 CPU architecture: 7 CPU variant : 0x2 CPU part : 0x06f CPU revision : 0
Hardware : Qualcomm MSM 8974 HAMMERHEAD (Flattened Device Tree) Revision : 000b Serial : 0000000000000000
I'm honestly not sure if this would be superuseful, but I won't mind building this into an actual APK. Figure tons of us have old Android phones that aren't in use anymore ...

Mining Magi with Android? Thats cool! Nice work NCommander! Can you share some results later? Now the other thing Magi need is wallet app. Its been running for a few hours now, steady hashrate of about 5 KH consistently, device isn't even hot at all. I had to comment out the CPU affinity code as those headers aren't on bionic, so it probably is running flat out. Kinda suprised it hasn't melted my phone, running BOINIC would get my pants warm in the wrong way. This is a two year old phone, and I doubt the POW code has been optimized for ARM so honestly, its not bad at all. I did take a serious look at what it would take to port BitcoinJ to Magi, and its ... complicated to say the least since the POW/POS methods would have to be rewritten in Java. I *might* be able to do it, or port one of the wallets to just run around magid, but its a fairly large project. EDIT: and I spoke too soon; the miner segfaulted about half an hour ago. Not suprising.

Hi friend, this is tremendous, and exactly what I wish to have. Could you post details of setting up the miner?

I will be getting touch with you for the details if you're interested.

There definitely is a way - it's really easy, actually: Anything in that list with source is fair game, but I'd recommend just downloading the Wolf v2 miner source from GitHub. To get everything running, you'd follow these steps: First, open a terminal window and download the dependencies: libcurl-dev libgmp-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev libjansson-dev git The method for this varies a bit on the basis of your Linux distribution. For Ubuntu/Debian, for example, you'd use: sudo apt-get install libcurl-dev libgmp-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev libjansson-dev git Next, grab the source from GitHub: git clone https://github.com/magi-project/wolf-m7m-cpuminer-V2 After that, follow the steps for compiling as shown in the Readme: ./autogen.sh ./configure CFLAGS="-O3" CXXFLAGS="-O3" make After that, you're good to move the created binary, minerd, wherever you want and run if from a terminal with: ./minerd -a m7mhash -o stratum+tcp://pool:port -u <username> -p <password> -t <number of threads> Edit: fixed poor editing, removed a stray period, added in actual minerd options

Nice post Feldenthorne and welcome to the community Arah! The wolf-m7m-cpuminer-V2 compiles and works great for Ubuntu in my experience too, however, I've had trouble getting it to mine solo. When Nonce pool went down I tried it solo and had no luck. I'm not sure what the problem was, maybe something not configured right or bad luck, who knows.

Here's the magi.conf that worked for me (just remember to run magid with -conf=magi.conf after placing this in your wallet.dat directory): daemon=1 server=1 rpcport=8232 rpcuser=rpcuser rpcpassword=(choose a secure password) rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
