Hi lads I m new in this solo mining but i will giv it a try I have almost 3 TH did i have eny chance to hit a block ? With 3TH at current difficulty you will find a block on average every 1310 days, so currently you have a 1 in 1310 chance of finding a block each day.

I have an odd question for -ck
As the network grows, do you expect to have a decline or increase in users and hashrate? So far since last adjustment the network has gone from 540PH to approx 700PH.
I mean I have a couple little USB lotteries running under my desk... *Crosses fingers for the next 1.3 million days*
I honestly don't know. So far the total hashrate and number of users has gradually grown but it's hard to know if that's time and reputation or paralleling the growth of the network. There's no doubt home miners have almost no chance to make a profit doing regular pooled mining unless they have dirt cheap electricity, and that's both the reason I created the pool and why they come here I believe. Having said that, approximately 2/3 of the hashrate comes from rentals so the economics at work there are totally different and come and go far more than the continuous miners. I think it's about time one of the small miners found a block too since all the recent ones have been hundreds of TH and more. They're the more exciting and fun block finds to me and other users. Wow another 2 new blocks mined here. It's a good pool.. I recommend increasing the fee to 1% or 1.5% because u need to pay the servers..
0.5% is more than enough to pay for the servers, but I need to make more than 1 block per month to actually make a profit, which I am. It's not exactly a huge profit considering the time and effort that I've put into the pool, but then I got paid to write a lot of the ckpool code and the profits from this pool fund further maintenance and development of ckpool. It's also a very bare bones pool with no flashing lights, bells and whistles and I prefer maintaining that sort of service since it means I can concentrate on things I care about - the low level performance of the actual mining process. If I charged a higher fee people would probably expect more "features" from the pool and that's not going to happen with me as the administrator. If the pool ever got larger and I earned more profit purely from solving more blocks, I would make the server higher power to cope with more users but maintain the low fee and bare bones nature of the pool. However the current server is good for up to probably 50PH and that's not going to happen any time at this rate.

Hello CK, how calculate the rate to catch a block?
Use Kano's simple calculator: http://tradebtc.net/bitcalc.phpSince you're mining solo, you have to pretend you're the whole pool in the calculator so put your hashrate in the "Pool Th/s:" box.

Some healthy fees in that block too!
Yes indeed, I always pack the shit out of the blocks There were almost 2% in fees from transactions in that block. I'm aiming to make solo blocks the reference for the largest average sized blocks.

That's a great goal, not only for network health (if only every pool has such priorities), but also for preparation of the halving next year where tx fees will make up a much higher percentage of the total block solve reward.

With the tremendous expected increase in difficulty coming up is it a waste of money to rent hashpower now? Would it be better to wait until the difficulty rises and you get more hashpower for your money or does it matter?

That's the opposite of what most people would say... As the difficulty rises, renting the same amount of hashpower is less likely to find a block. However what you'll find is as the difficulty rises, rentals will get cheaper for the same absolute hashrate but be pretty much the same relatively... So overall, nothing much will change and you're gambling on what you think rental prices will be and so on.

So overall, nothing much will change and you're gambling on what you think rental prices will be and so on. In comparison, philip's solo pool of people and money was at 0.0115 for the cost per TH back in May/June. Currently nicehash has people buying hash at 0.0061 at the lowest. Back in june 1PH for a day would give you roughly a 40% chance. The cost would be 11.5BTC (numbers based on hashrate at difficulty change in June) Currently 1PH for a day would give you roughly a 20% chance. The cost would be 6.1BTC (current numbers based on hashrate of today, 738PH, if you calculated at the difficulty adjustment on December 6th, it would be a 25% chance based on the 560PH network) Looking at numbers, the costs will stay the same on rented hash and chances of hitting a block. The hashrate will not.

You probably got that from a site that doesn't understand statistics Id say something closer to 11-18% is what id estimate. But then again it could be more, with the prices going up more people are turning machines back on, that and the S7s are still shipping to people.
