WhiteOS announcement

WhiteOS Release Schedule:

Internal Testing:In Progress
Private Testing:3 October 2014
Public Beta Release:10 October 2014
WhiteOS Official Release:      ~17 October 2014 (depends on bugs)

WhiteOS utilizes a custom, optimized and hardened Ubuntu environment, based on the latest version 14.04LTS. WhiteOS is a secure and portable operating system, Anyone with a PC or laptop will be able to use WhiteOS. Because the OS and Wallet data files are stored on a USB, You effectively have true cold storage, your coins will follow you wherever you go. The wallet and browsers are redirected through a TOR proxy to ensure anonimity and privacy (this runs locally as default). When you unplug your USB stick no trace is left on the host PC.

So.. what wil happen on 3 October 2014, At 21:00 UTC+1 (Amsterdam) i will be on IRC in #whitecoinfoundation selecting people to participate in the private beta and help people to get started if needed.
We will be selecting between 5 and 10 people to participate in the private beta, and maybe more in the following week if there are not many bugs being discovered.
If people are willing to write articles in a WIKI that we have set up for WhiteOS that would be great, this will earn you a place faster in the private beta

After a week we will begin public beta testing to ensure we have all the remaining bugs solved (if there are still any left)

What happens after the release of WhiteOS, we have some really nice unique ideas that we are willing to implement in future versions of WhiteOS, so we continue to develop on WhiteOS as a good and secure and portable OS. Once the release of WhiteOS is succesfull more features will be added

Options to install:

  • On USB so it's portable (main idea and easiest)
  • Under windows (Virtualbox/VMWare/Hyper-V) (easy)
  • Dual-boot next to windows (advanced)

Here are some screenshots:

Greetings!

What a great couple of months for Whitecoin but we believe that this is only the beginning of the communities hard work, dedication and commitment to Whitecoin, its investors, partners and cryptocurrency in general.

Over the past several months we have seen some great leading indicators of how healthy Whitecoin is. We look at such indicators like how much the community has grown, movement of the market cap, exchange volumes and in addition, new investor demand for Whitecoin all of which are in a very steady upward trend.

You can see from our growing list of developments that we are positioned to grow Whitecoin to new heights but before I get into this, I first wanted to acknowledge that none of this could have been possible without YOU the community, rallying behind Whitecoin and all we stand for. We all thank each of you for believing in the team, to not only resurrect Whitecoin but to see it explode back into the spotlight, showing the world that Whitecoin has not only tested the boundaries of the bottom but has risen and been revived beyond many people’s expectations, promoting and attracting growth through community & partner innovation, not simply another P&D.

I have been asked by the community to provide a quick update as to the forward moving progress we are making within the Whitecoin community.  With David (Surfguy) being between moving and getting settled, we arranged a meeting of the WCF yesterday where we discussed recent developments, team additions and core marketing touch points.  To ensure my pledge of openness and transparency, I have summarized the key items and their updates accordingly:

Public Notary Service: Cryptocopyright.com (http://cryptocopyright.com

This has been fully deployed and is in public beta.  This service is currently being utilized primary for text documentation such as articles and publications.  As demand increases for this service, Shair.com will be releasing its File Upload functionality so that you can have your pictures, documents and images ownership rights assigned via the Whitecoin Network.  This service provides a number of benefits to the Whitecoin Community – currently there is no fee for this service, every time a document goes through the CCR process, there are transaction fees which occur in addition to Whitecoins which are destroyed.

As this is a cool deployment with future very positive implications for Whitecoin, more detailed information will become available over the coming weeks.

Whitecoin Community Initiated Developments:

1.       WhiteOS

Did you know that WhiteOS isn’t just a secure operating system for Whitecoin but, it can be used for any Cryptocurrency Wallet?  Simple by design, it will come ready built with Whitecoin ready to go from all aspects such as Exchange Links, the Whitecoin website, Forum, Documentation and of course the Whitecoin Wallet, however it can also be used to secure any Linux wallet which means that it has a much broader appeal to anyone whom wants to have a secure USB enabled OS with Privacy enabled by default.

Nearing completion of the internal testing phase, we are now moving in to private invite testing, aiming for end of week, early into next for the private invite, community testing phase.  If you are interested in participating, Oizopower has already made an announcement regarding WhiteOS letting everyone know the process by which you might gain early access.

a.       There has been no bounty set aside for this development therefore if you like what you see and love the work we are doing, you can make a contribution to Oizopower directly at WPTThUxWVSnvrRivH4epkkGGX1JQvd74pf

Once again, here is a sneak video looking into the functionality of WhiteOS http://youtu.be/r-VKKXgIKjg

2. Smart Contracts

I have further discussed this potential development with Shair as it does align with their vision of Identity/Reputation and Smart Contract initiatives, combined together, this could be very powerful for the Whitecoin community.  Currently this is only under discussion internally however, this development could follow the Known User Transactions or act as a decentralized solution… more discussions will need to take place on this subject.  The WCF will be providing the community with open communication points especially where consensus would be required prior to kick starting this project especially if any WCF funds would be required for development.

If this development would be of interest to integrate moving forward and you would like to support this development, here is the donation address: WgMvUeu6vf7vFb1PVGmnfD6tvyFqSh7oWC – Current Balance: 74,106 WC

3. Reduce Confirmation Times

WCF Technical team has reviewed how best to implement the proposed reduced confirmation times for staking, currently confirmation times for staking coins is at approx. 340 confirmations.  As many of the community has already voiced its opinion on reducing these times, the WCF will utilize the bounty collected at WUET4WgYwz4HLx54faKYyRWMNbfa6K5gjj with a balance of 367,196 WC, to modify the code so that staking coins will only require 30 confirmations.  What this will accomplish is speeding up our staking times making it over 10X faster than it is today!  The only “downfall” which doesn’t present much risk is that Whitecoin will require a fork which means that all exchanges, block explorers, partners and wallets will have a mandatory update.  Prior to any release, we would ensure that our partners (exchanges, Shair etc.) have all been coordinated for this fork, to minimize any down time for services that are dependent upon Whitecoin.

As we have a standing bounty value of 367,196 WC, therefore we are prepared to begin development (with payment to WC Development Team upon successful deployment of code into production), next week where we will be providing updates to the community as the development progresses through its various development stages.

4. Built in Voting App

To ensure fairness with future voting for new developments, elections of WCF officials and other cool decision making processes that Whitecoin will need to make as a transparent community driven Crypto, this is an important function that we could develop in conjunction with Oizopowers Logo Voting System however it will take some fairly significant development efforts.  If you remember the voting system Oizopower created when the community was defining its logo via the community voting process, I have discussed this with Oizopower whereas we could build a system which could then tie directly into DandyID via API, or act as a semi decentralized standalone system, where WCF could manage the items to be voted on with/without KUT by the community of Whitecoin enabling a truly democratic process of voting thereby making Whitecoin one of the largest Cryptocurrencies where all members have a voice in the future of their crypto.

If you would like to contribute to this development, you can make your donation to: WSYDAdSrx23BpC6MjBJ2pdWvfkVjYu6tEB – current balance 104,216 WC

5. Known User Transactions

Shair.com has allocated resources for the implementation of KUT within DandyID, utilizing Claim.io and Whitecoin at its core. This has been outlined in the whitepaper which can be reviewed here: http://shair.com/uploads/shair_id_plat_wc.pdf which is a high level overview of the process by which it will come to life.  Currently Shair is in the final stages of resource planning for their internal development with meetings taking place for detailed wallet discussions with the WCF Technical Team, a further update will be provided upon finalizing team members understanding that the bounty collected at this wallet address: WQ2daSMKv7qBsgxJTBeSwKfTLoVDYsBZEr will be utilized as a bounty for successful development once production of the Whitecoin Wallet was to be released fully supporting KUT.

Expect an update from Shair as to its progress upon completion of their resource planning which will provide the team and Whitecoin with an estimated timeline for testing purposes.  If you would like to donate to this development (final bounty will be announced later), you can do so here: WQ2daSMKv7qBsgxJTBeSwKfTLoVDYsBZEr – the current balance is: 1,085,642 WC

Hello WhiteCoin!  I feel honored to be a part of a team that, I think we can all agree, has done something truly special in a very challenging environment.  I'm here and have stuck around because I believe this community has an opportunity to provide something very unique to the crypto-currency world.

I'm aware that there are a lot of people watching, and that we are all here for different reasons.  Those reasons range from, the investor drawn by the unique team environment here at WCF, to the day-trader turning a quick buck.  Both are vital parts to a healthy organization that thrives on the crypto financial system.

After reading Jason's update, I'm very excited to be even a small part of the development of WhiteCoin...the last few weeks have been very exciting for all of us WC old-timers (I know it's only been about 6 months Grin), but I truly believe that this is just the beginning.

grv: I like the idea you wrote in this 2 lines:

-voting can be proposed by anyone who owns minimally "xx" amount of whitecoins (also takes coin age into consideration, e.g. minimally 1 month old coins)
-perhaps even require small nonrefundable whitecoin deposit to back it up, to prevent spamming, which could go to wcf development fund

a) nobody can make thousands of wallets with 1 or even none WC and corrupt the voting
b) this amount should be rly small cos not every wallet has hunderts thousand WC.

The implementation in wallet like ongoing/past/upcoming voting sounds great.
There dont need to be only WhiteCoin relative questions to vote. For example you can try to answer the question - What does whitecoiners think about the war in Iraq, Afgnanistan, Syria...

Also should be good if everybody with xxxxx WC could make his own voting directly from the wallet.

this has a lot of potential, can be called voting, or petition or whatever community decides

there could be a voting tab with several sub-sections:
1. currently ongoing voting - actual voting/petitions in progress
2. past votes - history log of all past petitions, successful or unsuccessful
3. upcoming voting - list of proposed petitions
where users can upvote/downvote to determine validity of proposal which will be then either accepted or rejected
either it could last for a predetermined time (to prevent long list of petitions no one is interested in that just keep piling on)
maybe threshold to determine when a petition gets auto-approved and moves to "current" tab (80% upvotes needed at the end of proposal period)

-voting can be proposed by anyone who owns minimally "xx" amount of whitecoins (also takes coin age into consideration, e.g. minimally 1 month old coins)
-perhaps even require small nonrefundable whitecoin deposit to back it up, to prevent spamming, which could go to wcf development fund

this could be even expanded and used for unrelated petitions, which would be categorized and searchable/sortable/filterable by users (e.g. by tags/keywords/trusted users-trust level/etc)

These are some great ideas....these functions would be really helpful for the WCF...

nice to see what happened in the past month.
As Idea for the voteing in the wallet, I would suggest that one whitecoin is one vote. So that erveryone can vote and those who have more coins had more votes.

That's part of the debate, should people be treated more equally or is it going to be the golden rule; he with the most gold makes the rules.

Whitecoiners Hello, first of all congratulations for the increase in price and trading volume to all who have believed in this project, I'm on board this train because I am convinced that this has only just started.
I also want to congratulate all the members of the WCF, for the great work done at malbee on his recent appointment (it's a guaranteed success) Oizopower and especially for his great work with WhiteOS.
On the subject of voting proposed Nexby, say that I quite agree with, we should mark some limits to prevent abuses of power, but I understand that you must have more weight in the voting someone who invests $ 5,000 (risking your money ) to another invest only $ 5.

nice to see what happened in the past month.
As Idea for the voteing in the wallet, I would suggest that one whitecoin is one vote. So that erveryone can vote and those who have more coins had more votes.

unchecked that would lead to people buying results. good bye democracy.
we saw what happened during last voting where a single person could
buy the results, not very democratic or representative of community

1 person 1 vote is fair, but having a few people with 2 votes
would be within margin of error, would not skew the results
and offer some nice reward to true supporters who own a substantial amount of whitecoins
so giving them 1 additional vote would not break the community value

as for minimal requirements to allow voting:
probably something along the lines of 10-100usd worth of at least 1 month old whitecoins
(so the real world value would keep constant as the value of whitecoin increases Smiley)
if its something miniscule like 1 whitecoin then that would be pointless

and to vote on official whitecoin voting, more strict requirements could be applied,
to keep fake/new users from pushing their agenda over long term community
-so maybe 100-1000usd worth of at least 3 month old whitecoins
-also user must be flagged as "trusted" (registered)

this would also increase longer term buy pressure a little
and this would be a support with a real value behind it
and not some manufactured one with nothing but empty air hype

Nice thoughts...

I do like the idea of having investors with more at stake somehow having more of a voice.

Just brainstorming here, but what if a voting structure like this was setup:

1-100,000 coins = 1 vote
100,000-500,000 coins = 2 votes
500,000-1,000,000 = 3 votes
etc...etc...

That way it would reward people who have invested without skewing the results too much.  We could also setup a structure where based on the age of coins you get a another vote or two...

I still believe that it should be one member one vote, having more coins should not give you more power.

This would make WC a better coin for investors, not worrying someone can buy his way in.

I don't really agree. I feel that the weight of your vote should directly correlate to the power your vote holds.

People with more WC will have a far larger vested interest for voting for things that benefit WC.

If someone is willing to buy his way in, he will be pushing the price of WC up and will buy expensive coins. He is unlikely to vote for anything that can destroy his investment.

On paper, yes it does make sense, but in reality, this practice can be use to control and destroy it. it's impossible to have a perfect solution.

But I have an idea to build on the previous mention by Malbee, not just implement a scaled structure but also a cap.

1 - 500K = 1 vote
500k - 5M = 2 votes
5M + = 3 votes

These numbers are just an example, but capping the maximum amount of vote would help the richer have more power without crippling and voiding the vote of lower holders.

This would be a better compromise over the possibility of unlimited voting power of richer people.

i like the idea with a cap and only a few votes more. You are right that this is better then 1 vote = 1 WC. So far i do not agree with the numbers. In my opinion it does not realy matter in the future. When the coins will be more distributed. So what do you think to use the richlist for this.
For example:
Top Ten 5 Votes
Top 100 3 Votes
Top 1000 2 Votes
Less then 1000 1 Vote

edit:
@grv you are right that decentralisation is the Key, so it is necessary to let it decentralised. On the other side, people with a larger amount of whitecoins are normaly more interessted in the coin then others. So i think they have to be a little bit more voteing power. In the example above it looks more fair for erveryone. Yes the top ten can vote 5th times but there are also a lot of more people who hold less then they. So if the others want something that the top ten not will it also will happend because they are a lot of more people.

you have to remember 1 address doesnt mean 1 user
you could have top ten addresses owned by a single person, or top 100 owned by a small group of people.
you cannot just assume people will play nice, distribute evenly, hold hands and sing, there are always some greedy douchers ready to exploit and abuse any and every flaw in the system.

it is not advisable to give a select small groups of people power over the rest of community.
we have enough of that abuse in real world in form of banking cartels, multinational corporations, etc all exploiting the general population

Yes you are right, it does not matter witch system we will use in the end, there are always someone who wants to exploid it. That is the reason why we discuss it and think about it.

Perhaps "Known User" function should be incorporated into voting as a requirement to avoid the multiple address issue.
