Hello,

Storing the data directly in the chain is a bad idea for many reasons.  The Blockchain is not meant for storing data, but rather for storing references "pointers" to where data my exist.

SwiftExist creates a cryptographic digest of the file and links it to the time in which you submitted the document to the network.  It allows you to publicly prove you own something, and have it permanently validated by the Blockchain.
